I bought this radio brand new way back in 2004 or so when the TV bands still worked. Was awesome then, still works today to listen to AM FM and Weather.
I was fortunate to buy an ICF-36 in a secondhand store. Such a wondrous simple pleasure to crawl into bed on a clear Saturday night here in southern Indiana, and fall asleep listening to the hillbilly music on WSM 650am Nashville.
My local surplus store had a box of about 10 of these a few years ago. I bought 3 of them for about $2 each in used condition. I'm really happy with them. I gave the other 2 to my parents. I noticed today that the local radio stations are also broadcasting on the TVL channels too.
I just bid on this radio on goodwill auction. A few more hours to go and it will be mine. And at a great price also 🙌🏼 Loved the video! Cheers from Houston
What Radio would you choose between a Panasonic 2400D and this ICF36 for a Table Top/Patio Radio 📻 . I know the Weather is on the Sony ICF 36 , and I do Love that option , but I just wanted your Opinion Todderbert as to which one would be better for FM/AM. And also, which one would you say has the better sound Quality between the two. I sure do love the Nostalgia of the Sony , it's pretty Cool , but I really do think I would love the Panasonic 2400D. Thank You for Response and Answer Todderbert . Always Enjoying the Dial Spinning and the Great Content 😎👍👍
Still my favorite portable AM/FM weather band unit even after breaking the antenna. Reception is so good I haven't gotten around to trying to find another one for it let me know if you have one of those laying around... 😀
@@brattica1980 My Mom likes her Sangean PR-D9W th-cam.com/video/SUkk46k0wgM/w-d-xo.html . The weather alert mode is a great thing to have. If not needed the PR-D19 is fantastic th-cam.com/video/anGcvX55axw/w-d-xo.html .
I have one of these, but it has an iffy band switch. That is, it works fine for AM; have to jiggle it a bit a FM & quite a lot for WX.In the latter case, all I'll get a static. Tried cleaning the switch (after opening the set), but it hasn't helped. Any idea(s)?
Similar radios, the ICF-36 has the Weather Band which I find very handy. The ICF-38 is similar in most respects. Same audio, tone control, reception, ect.
Might need to invest in a NOAA weather radio that can pickup all seven channels. An inexpensive one is the Prunus J-166, at Amazon: amzn.to/3DTsaDJ , My Review: th-cam.com/video/S79Zs_lPBJk/w-d-xo.html

Picked one up today at Goodwill for $4. A little external cleaning and springs in battery tray cleaned of some corrosion. Works great! Great radio!

I used this radio quite a bit in the 2000’s. I’m glad I still have it. You can’t go wrong with a Sony. Great review Todderbert. 👍

Got mine, in very good condition, for 5 bucks at my local Salvation Army. Good for DX at night on the AM band

Sony was my first SW radio.
I'm glad to see the ICF series again here.

I have that radio too. It’s very well made and is a all around good radio. 1190 AM might have been WOWO in Fort Wayne, IN. Nice band scan! 👍👏🏻❤️📻

You should be able to order a universal antenna and install a new antenna. Hopefully you get to keep it going 👍🏼
I always wanted this radio.👍🏼

3:52 better use 220V to 110V step down transformer if plan to use in Russia. To receive Soviet FM Band on TV 1 band.
Any differences between the ICF 36 and ICF 38 other than the TV bands? Both the same radio otherwise?

Just picked one up at the Swap Meet for $10
The ICF-36 is excellent.

Jeff rocking the emoticons. Keep on tuning!
I live in Bakersfield California, I can’t seem to find the weather station at all! Help
