Organizing, the never ending battle!!! Nothing like moving 35 movies down different parts of the shelf to get one movie in its right spot alphabetically!

This is exactly what I do every week, its gets quite tedious but I enjoy the satisfaction of adding another movie, it gives you a warm feeling

Been there, and it sucks! Granted, everything might already be in order, but when you have a shelf with 5 levels of content, every time you add something, everything towards the end of each level has to move...

Always adding stuff to my Blu ray section, I know the fun of moving stuff to accommodate my need to keep it alphabetized, don't care if the DVDs are in order cause they'll be out the door if I get it on Blu ray 😅

I organise mine by genre. That way if I just feel like watching an action movie, I can just see all of them. Same with horror or comedy. That way I don't have to think about a specific movie when browsing.

Binders are cool. You can customize them. I have a majority of my Blu rays in one with a sticker of my dog on the outside. The only reason I have a binder however is because it takes up less space. If you don’t have this problem then you don’t need to worry

I have to keep my entire collection in binders. 19K movies and counting. So I use the 540 disc binders. Weigh about 20 pounds when full. I have roughly 30 of them and still short. I have also had to label them with what is in them. Having 30 means it can take forever to find what I need.

I don’t have a huge collection but my organization is weird. First, I separate 4K UHDs from Blu-ray. Then I separate 4Ks into Dolby Vision and HDR10. Then I’ll separate those by genre (sci-fi, action, Marvel, DC, box sets, etc.) Then I’ll separate those by series or time period the movie takes place in. So I have Saving Private Ryan in front of Jaws (1944 before 1975). No alphabetical for me. It’s weird my mind went that way but it works for me.

Just wanna say I approve of the Toy Story Trilogy set with no Toy Story 4 in sight 😂
Yeah, I've contemplated organising my collection, mostly VHS, by label, but at that, a lot more questions arise. Alphabetical or chronological? Production or distribution? What if there's overlap? That just guarantees headaches for me, so I just do alphabetical for the main shelves, and then I try and organise the best I can for the two small shelves reserved for duplicates and miscellaneous stuff... It's exhausting but very satisfying when it's all put together.

I appreciate your collection and how you organize it. It certainly looks great. But after I owned around 3,000 movies, it became way too much work keeping my movies in order and finding shelf space for them.
I currently have about 9,000 disks and I store them in canisters, without the case or box they came in. Each canister holds 80 disks and I have 127 canisters. They take up considerably less shelf space than cases/boxes do.
I put the latest disk purchased in the next available canister in the next available slot. There is no need to organize them in any way.
I scan my movies by barcode into Movie Collector database. I retrieve my movie info using Movie Collector on my PC and CLZ Movies on my phone. All the data related to a movie (title, release year, stars, director, IMDb Rating, genre, genre, etc.) is obtained from the barcode and can be retrieved from the database.
I export the data to an Excel spreadsheet that tracks the location of each disk. The spreadsheet lists my movie by Index vale (the order in which I entered the movie) or alphabetically. When I locate a movie, the spreadsheet tells me where it is located. So, if the movie is in canister 10, slot 6, Excel tells me 10-6.
Yes, I throw away the cases but I'm a movie collector, not a case or art collector. And I can get the case info and more from Google.
If I had the space, time and energy to do it your way. I would.

Jesus Christ - I understand the love for physical media, but this is overkill - but I guess that TH-cam money helps out. In future I'd suggest MakeMKV and back all that up digitally on drives and have a 1:1 backup copy of all the disc contents you have and sell the collection if you ever need the space or the funds back. Possibly a scanner too, to scan the covers if you want. Never know when you need to sell all that. The channel and content is great, but at a point, you may realise you don't need all that and could fit it all across a few 20TB drives taking up only one shelf. Great for TH-cam but storing all that must be a nightmare. Great stuff though.
