I think her body movements are because in the play this is the scene where she starts going into labor while currently in one of her darkest moments (I won’t say what to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen the show). I feel like she is ignoring or moving through early contractions while dealing with the raw emotions she is singing about. Edited to fix autocorrects
So the reason it’s so emotional is because right before this scene Jenna’s (her character) abusive husband finds her secret stash of money (her get out and go money) and now she can no longer flee him, leaving both her and the baby stuck in his clutches cuz she knows she’ll never be able to save that money again or get a chance to run after she’s has the baby
There are some songs I can’t let myself get emotionally invested in when I sing or I will end up sobbing too hard to finish. This is one of those songs.
Yeah happened to me. Always made it through singing it to myself never at full power cause people might hear. Then collected all my courage and sang it at open stage of a choir rehearsal weekend, belted my heart out - and barely squeezed the last line out cause I was choked up completely. This song means a lot to me, discovered it in the darkest phase of my life where I was feeling entirely like I was losing myself and everything I liked about me and it hit me hard. Still does, to be honest.
A little backstory, This was at the Tony Awards, and it was the same night as the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando. A lot of emotions were going thru Jessie while she was performing.
So, I sat in the front row during Jessie's last show. I was absolutely blown away by her. I've honestly never seen anything like it. There's a lot more to the show, a lot more things that get said by the actors as they put their entire being into embodying the characters, that gets lost because they are muted when it isn't their time to speak. In the front row, though, you can hear and see all of it. Like, for example, during the scene where the abusive husband finds her stash of money and confronts her, Jessie was full on breaking down as I think she did most nights, but what was even more incredible was that her entire body from her head all the way to her feet was trembling as if she was truly terrified. I'd never seen anything like that before and I don't think I would have if I wasn't sitting up close. If you guys have never done it, you should save up and try it just once. It was a once in a lifetime thing for me and was totally worth it.
I was able to see this with most of the OG cast for a college theater trip. Absolutely amazing! But even cooler was someone on our staff knew someone backstage and so we got to stay after for a tech talk-back (we were told not to get our hopes up for any cast appearances). The talk was awesome and every now and then a cast member would actually show up and sit down to join in. Even later someone shows up and sits on the stage right in front of my seat and it was Jessie! I was shocked and honestly couldn't tell you what was talked about after that.
I was able to see Jessie twice a few weeks before she left the role of Jenna. She killed it both nights! Was able to sit front row and it was worth every penny!

Since I was a child I have always wanted to be on Broadway or really any kind of professional singer. After watching this performance though, I just simply wanted to BE a singer. I don't care if I never get to perform for anyone. I would be completely satisfied and happy if I could sing like Jessie Mueller. I have sang her version of She Used to Be Mine over and over and over. She just so effortlessly sings in a way that is beautiful and amazing and emotional all at once. I always relate this song (as I relate everything in life) to losing my best friend, my one and only soul sister, to pancreatic cancer in 2015 at the age of 20- an event which, therefore, caused the subsequent death of the other me. I walked into the crematorium as her, she died and went with my girl, and I, as I am now, took her place. 💜💔💜 Love you forever, my beautiful girl. 💜
I'm so glad you reacted to this video! Firstly, you could react to this song a thousand more times and I'd watch them all ... but aIso, I LOVE Sara B! She has great renditions of Goodbye Yellow Brick Rd and Dock of the Bay that everyone should check out! Of course she wrote the song (and I THINK the rest of the show's music as well). Jessie is my favorite overall Jenna. She delivers her lines in a way that reminds me of Brett Butler (remember her?). Alison Luff is my favorite version of the song. Did you know there was a cast that featured Joey McIntyre as Dr. Pomatter? That blew my mind!
Loving the recaps Audrey! I think they are definitely a great idea. This is such a beautiful song. Sara B is one of my favourite performers, and I was lucky enough to see her live in Sydney a few years ago. I would have really loved to have seen her run as Jenna, I think she would have slipped into more of a theatre persona when performing in the show as opposed to just performing the song. Jessie Mueller absolutely slays this song. There's actually an interesting chapter in Sara Bareilles' book "Sounds Like Me" about her experience writing the songs for the show. Worth a read if you're interested.

Do you want to react cover the fingerstyle accustic guitar by Alip Ba Ta??? He has 5,7 million subsucribe at three years ago. Like Numb, Bohemian Raphasidy, the Goodfather, the lost of Mohanicans, Hotel California, yiruma, on the floor, black or White, Shallow, Dear God, Burried Alive, Toxycity, Dream Theater, Still got the blues, No Woman No Cry, Sadness and Sorrow, ect
Hi! I am Gary and I live in Italy! I have subscribed to your channel and it is none of my business but please, maybe, just a bit of a reaction to your reaction. No drama. #1....Don't talk during the performance you are reacting to as we, then, miss the performance. Pause, go back, or maybe...watch it once through, in silence and then go back and begin the critique. 2. Learn the performers names. You got Jessie's right but you totally missed the pronunciation of Sara Bareilles name. You got "Sara" right. However, you called her "borealis" as in the Aurora....the light display experienced in Northern countries like Norway and Sweden...etc. Her name is pronounced "Bar-re-les"...simple. In French, it would be "bar-ei-ll-ius"....and the 'll' sounds like a 'y' with a tinge of 'l' in it and the 'i' is almost silent. Just FYI. You're watching, above the TONY awards and since Sara wrote and and also played the part, she began the performance. I have seen so many reactions of videos, especially of those in foreign languages, which this of course is not, where people have no clue what the singer is singing about but react. I have recommended to a friend who does just that back home in NY to at least read what the song is about, especially when she went on a Luciano Pavarotti (couldn't pronounce that so she called me) kick and was watching him, and others, sing lyrical songs from opera and they have no idea what the opera is or what it is about. Especially, "Nessun Dorma"...and I have had to explain it so many times. First reactions are great but at least, not you, that I have seen, with opera, learn what the opera is and what the song, at least, might be in reference to. Would you agree? Any foreign song, the French, "Ne me quitte pas".. by Jacques Brel, at least find out what it means and the amazing back story, though tragic, that it is connected to. I think a modicum of research about the video you're about to share is not unreasonable and learning the names of the people singing them is, either. Hmm? I mean no disrespect and as I have said, I am a fan of your reactions, critiques. I really am just trying to be kind. Peace! You need help with some foreign stuff? I speak 5 languages and could be of service, if you like. Mando gli abbracci dall'Italia!

Jessie Muller is AMAZING. She was even sick during this performance! Gosh...
Woah! That might've added so much to her character if that's the case! Bravo!
@@SongsFromASuitcase ya she had laryngitis
@@offbrandhandymanny No. You're lying.

Thanks for this!!! It's a really great explanation
The movie is also amazing
This song WRECKS me every single time. Especially when Muller sings it in character!
Such an emotional scene but it makes the ending so much more fulfilling!

(th-cam.com/video/IGVxaFJeYTo/w-d-xo.html) Younger kid who went viral and then got to sing at a performance after?
Please please please react to Adrian singing this song. Its pure beauty

Hi! I always love your reactions on different songs and I was wondering if you could maybe react to the song Je Dors Sur Des Roses by the musical Mozart l'Opera Rock? It's in french but I think it's such a beautiful song and well done in the live!
