My dad was a Lincoln man. Thereby I was blessed to learn how to drive in a ‘84 Town Car Signature Series in Twilight Blue Metallic. Nothing like them. I had to watch this video… took me back. I really enjoyed looking out over that hood as a young man.
We used to travel to New York for business with my dad when I was a kid. Every time we’d arrive we used a service that took us to our hotel. Big maroon town car every time. All the bags in the trunk, family of 5 plus driver. Brilliant car.
If you've ever driven one of these, you know how the hood is so long and nearly horizontal that it almost feels like it slopes toward the driver - in a way that GM and Cadillac never copied. The hood ornament was a functional feature that helped the driver navigate. A wonderful experience.
@@johnsimun6533 I rented a brand new '89 Light Titanium Signature Series for the Barrister's Ball (law school prom), and my date and I were the sharpest couple there. Years ago, I bought a 1985 Town Car off a dirt lot full of old Lincoln vehicles. I paid for $900 for it and sounded just like this while accelerating and drove like a cloud with wheels. When the time came to get the A/C working it cost about $300 to fix a pressure valve and refill the system. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned❤️

I had an 83 back in 95. I was fresh out of high school. I bought it for $800 from an old man who was selling it for $1,500 and I offered him $1,000 and he told me to just give him 800 since it needed exhaust work. It was a no rust and clean gold exterior with a tan velour interior and a brown top. it had wire wheels which I didn't like since they were a pain to clean, especially here in Boston during the winters. oh, and during snowstorms, that car was a beast. It needed 2 catalytic converters (they were pretty much clogged) when I bought it. I got new cats and went ahead and put dual exhaust on it since it originally had single. a new H-pipe with 2 new mufflers and tailpipes. nice and quiet and helped free up some horsepower. The 'Fuel Injection was weird and funny. basically, 2 injectors shooting down the carburetor barrels. I liked how the keyhole had a plastic ring around and it would light up when I pulled the door handle so I was able to see while inserting your key when it was really dark out. The way the bumper stuck out like that and extended around the sides, protected the lincoln on 2 occasions. the first time, someone went through a stop sign at an intersection and hit me on the passenger side front. the other car was probably going around 15mph, it was a nice solid hit, and nothing happened to the lincoln. the second time it was basically a hit and run. I was outside my car across the street and some dude was pulling out of a driveway and tuned aggressively while ging faster than he should have and, Wham!! hit my car and kept going. his rear plastic bumper cover was pulled by the metal bumper of the lincoln and when I saw the way his car was I thought my car was wrecked. when I ran across the street to see the damage, only the black plastic bumper guards peeled off from the corner. I had them glued tight again shortly after. And I used to like driving down to NYC in the Lincoln during the mid-nineties. people used to try to flag me down all around town thinking I was a 'Pirate Taxi'. Good times, man... good times. Seeing your Lincoln in this video sure brought back memories, thanks!
I had this exact car back in 2007 it was my daily driver two-tone silver.... beautiful car ! ran and drove like a dream I can’t believe you have one bill! Damn!
Having been in the limousine business and speaking with chauffers we tend to agree that this model was the most desirable Town Car. The newer ones were good but these were the best. Bill, i'm a big fan. Look forward to your humor and knowledge.
I got into the limo business myself in 1992, so by then the company I worked for was already using the next gen (1990 -) Town Cars. Don't have any personal experience with that generation, but all of the Town Cars were great for the limo business as they were very comfortable, quiet and had big trunks for the customers' luggage.
Been nice & cold here in West Texas. My parents had a 1982 or 1983 Lincoln Town Car which I drove it before I had my driver license & loved the Lincoln Town Car ever since. The license plate on front of this body style was on the left corner of the bumper, wasn't in the center of the front bumper until later.
Love this review, my Mom had an '83 Town Car, I was with her when she drove it off the lot in June of 83. I learned to drive on that car and every time I rode or drove that car, somehow I felt special. Wish they mad cars like this now.

Ford was getting ready for drivers airbags, that's why. It didn't happen as quickly as they thought obviously. Much public distrust and pushback for inflatable restrains.
I’m pretty familiar with the 80’s Lincoln town cars? I was a Chauffeur from 1989-1991, and our limousines consisted of a 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1987, Town cars. The 83 and 84, were getting a little long in the tooth by then? But I got to drive them all regularly.
I was a chauffeur 1990-97 & we had 6 6 passenger 1990 town cars then they bought a new 1994 town car 12 passenger it didn't have a passenger seat I forgot the reason why for that but I was the only full time employee at the time & was the only one who could drive it. After driving that every day for almost a year then getting into the 6 passenger it felt like I was driving a carrolla lol we had 1 corporate car and that was a 1989 town car. Didn't get driven much & had really low mileage. I always loved the way a lincoln drove. I think Lincoln's drive much better than the caddy's. My personal car at the time was a 1989 Ford LTD crown vic & loved that car. I always had big full size ford's love them & over the years from driving big cars my driving & parking skills are awesome. I can parallel park a train if I had to 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely love these vids on old cars. Some of my fondest memories as a kid were from going over to grandma's house and seeing my uncle's '68 Cutlass, his '73 Buick Regal or his '78 Chevy Monte Carlo in the driveway. He always drove the coolest cars. Thank you Bill for being a bright spot in an otherwise very uninspiring 2020! Keep up the good work and keep on the look out for those damned birds!!
Bill's right. They split the Continental and Town Car up into two completely different cars in 1982. The Continental downsized in 1979 to this Panther design, and they kept the Continental and Town Car sub-trim until 1982 when they came out with the other Continental and renamed this the Town Car.
My parents had 2 of those! An 81 and an 86. I loved them both! I learned how to drive off of my moms 86. They were the best cars!... I ended up getting a Mark 6, 7, and 8 over time. Sigh, I wish they still made cars like these.
That early throttle body fuel injection system was bulletproof. 6 or 7 major components. Diagnose it with a paperclip and a $7 multi-meter from Harbor Freight.
Had it on my 1984 Cougar. When the stator failed so did your supply of spark. But easy to fix once you educated yourself as to how the system worked. And having that stubby little stator nut driver thingy helped you access the recessed stator hardware that attached it to the body of the distributor. I miss that 1984 Cougar. Say what you like, but it was smooth, quiet, and turned heads. Mine was white with limo tint windows.
Such a beautiful car. These were great cars. My Dad drove these for years.. used to be a Cadillac man and switch to Lincoln. I like both but completely understand why he enjoyed these cars so much. Looks like I'm going to follow in his foot steps!

That's a nice find Bill. Love the two-tone paint job. If you need to send something up to Mecum in Kissimmee this month, I'd pick this one over the Mark V with the mag wheels and chrome exhaust. I'll be looking for whatever you choose to send there, just to see how it goes. Happy New Year!
My grandmother had one, gave it to my dad, he drove it, let it sit in the yard for 20 years and now we have moved out of that house so the car had to go too. Very sad to see it leave. I remember it was brown and was a signature edition.
My modest collection consists of a 1987 Sail America Town Car & a 1997 Signature Series. Both mint & gorgeous. I absolutely love Town Cars. This is a superb example. Always a pleasure to hear from you Bill. Im as much of a fan of yours. Lol. Happy New Year to all. Let's guess on the crazy price they'll put on this beauty. 😁
Bill. I know exactly what you are talking about.. Right now, I am navigating my pristine ´77 Lincoln Versailles through inclimate weather, since my 2018 Raptor sits in the shop with timing issues.
Bill, love your videos. I'm an autophile and big fan of the Lincoln. I have an MKS Ecobeast. I'm also a fan of comedy. I get to enjoy the cars and laughs as well.
You pronounced Wixom 100% correctly👍👍 That plant was torn down and a movie studio was supposed to be built there because according to then Canadian born Gov of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, "In FIVE years.....your going to be BLOWN away"....she was right because since then there's been a mass exodus from the "Enchanted Mitten", including myself but now I'm in "Illinoyed", sucks here too🙄
That film initiative was a short-lived but fun whirlwind. Wish it would have stuck. I lived downtown at the time and used to watch stuff getting filmed all the time like Detroit 187, Red Dawn, and the Harold and Kumar Christmas movie. It was a lot of fun to be around.
Body style basically. A Mark IV had those horizontal taillights and a more rounded trunk deck. The Mark V had sharper fender lines and vertical LTD type taillights.
What a nice last video of the year with a surprisingly gorgeous Lincoln. Just not sure if it is worth not to lose the listing fee but probably net $ 1000.00 less at Mecum what ever Happy New Year !!!!!!
I was the second owner of a white over white/navy leather interior 1984 Town Car Signature Series. The injection, BTW, is a throttle body unit. Probably the best car I've ever owned [there have been MANY]. I owned it for almost 10 years, along with several other cars, but the Lincoln was my designated road car. Got around 25 MPG. Loaded up with options including a little push-button array on the driver's door for remote entry. The OEM stereo was a 6 speaker JBL unit, with a cassette deck. It was like concert hall, and was a premium option. I regret, in retrospect, having sold the car. FYI, La Boheme [a wonderful Puccini opera, with its best performance by Luciano Pavarotti as Rodolfo] is pronounced with a silent "h." The song playing on the aftermarket CD unit was "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," by Bachman Turner Overdrive. One of my favorite road tunes. Thanks for this video. Brought back a flood of memories.
Actually, it's tone on tone. Two tone means two different colors. Never the less we won't see two tone, or tone on tone again. Too unimaginative today.
Also, he said the car is like 20 years old... but it’s 38 years old! If I told my parents that 1983 was almost 40 years ago they’d laugh at me. They won’t even believe 1990 was 31 years ago.

YES! Another great one, Bill! Love these earlier town cars!
YOU ARE INCREDIBLY ENTERTAINING!!! I LOVE YOUR SHOW!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
A1 Bill i love it..My Dad had an 84 Towncar white and gray 2 tone.Happy New Year Bill!!👍
Thanks Bill for the ride. Loved those lincolns, that is a real american car!
Buddy of mine had a black one, with black leather....pretty sinister looking car in that color combo.
I thought I heard you say 20 years old, more like 40!! Peg that 85 Speedo!! Happy New Year Bill. Keep up the reviews, see you in 2021.
Good morning sir love the Lincoln have a wonderful day Bill
My uncle had 3 them when I was a kid. I’m in my late 40s and still remember the smell of Roi-Tan cigars and E & J brandy in each one of them!
20 years ago! Seems like just yesterday it was 1983.
That 302 singing! Great engine. So much better than what replaced it.
Happy new year Bill. Thanks for all your great videos 👍🏼👍🏼
Happy New Year, Bill! U da man!
Hall and Oates and Vivaldi on the same demo tape. Lord have mercy.
Since you brought it up, what was the difference between the Mark IV and Mark V, since they were both traditional big?
Body style basically. A Mark IV had those horizontal taillights and a more rounded trunk deck. The Mark V had sharper fender lines and vertical LTD type taillights.
The person who is reading this comment i wish you great success health love and happiness 💟 very nice car God bless United States of America ❤☺🎁
PURE GOLD..
You are a legend..
Kg
Happy New year. I remember those cars. I always admired
Panther Ford vehicles.
What a nice last video of the year with a surprisingly gorgeous Lincoln.
Just not sure if it is worth not to lose the listing fee but probably net $ 1000.00 less at Mecum what ever Happy New Year !!!!!!
All the best Bill! Keep up the good work ✌
I was the second owner of a white over white/navy leather interior 1984 Town Car Signature Series.
FYI, La Boheme [a wonderful Puccini opera, with its best performance by Luciano Pavarotti as Rodolfo] is pronounced with a silent "h."
The song playing on the aftermarket CD unit was "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," by Bachman Turner Overdrive. One of my favorite road tunes.
Thanks for this video. Brought back a flood of memories.
Aunt Barbara adores you!
and we ADORE you dear Aunt Barbara! Glad your baaaack!
as do we dear Auntie!
Love that two tone paint!
Actually, it's tone on tone. Two tone means two different colors. Never the less we won't see two tone, or tone on tone again. Too unimaginative today.
Have a great new year..
Also, he said the car is like 20 years old... but it’s 38 years old! If I told my parents that 1983 was almost 40 years ago they’d laugh at me. They won’t even believe 1990 was 31 years ago.
A Deer-Be-Gone product like a Winchester ! LOL
