      @@juanmanuelortego8896 contrary to popular belief, asbesto containing materials do not become airborne spontaneously, that is, it is only during a breaking or abrasion moment that the particles can somewhat become suspended in the air, and the real danger lies in the fabrication/repair/disposal of the materials.
      Roof asbesto shingles are an extreme case that are very exposed to the elements, quickly loosing protective layers and then eroding with the wind. Even so, it is only during their breakage that significant ammounts of asbestos can be released and inhaled.

    I used to work on Oil Rigs back in the 80's. The biggest loss of life (excluding explosions like Piper A) was Hydrogen Sulphide, H2S from stagnant sea water. In low concentrations it smells like rotton eggs, in higher concentrations you cannot smell it and it will kill you. We Always used H2S and O2 detectors before going into confined spaces.

    Deck hatches are the most overlooked entrances and also the easiest to get into. When you see the diagrams of the ship those are important as they can tell you where you are and where you need to go to get to other places. Each deck (level) has its own plan so it is easy to find your way around. If you know the compartment numbering system it is even easier to get to where you want to go. Also above the entry to each space (room) there is a corresponding number to the chart or diagram so you can find out where you are at any time. It will also let you know where the closest escape routs are and the various hatches to different levels.
    I hope that this will help you in further endeavors.

    Haha grappig om te zien. Ik werk zelf bij de marine en veel komt bekend voor zoals die strijk ijzers. Het is geen keuken maar een kombuis. Waarschijnlijk zit het manschappenverblijf (matrozen) daar dus naast. De plek waar je dat overzicht van het schip zag is een sectiepost. Bij averij of gevechtswacht zullen vanaf de sectieposten alle calamiteiten worden aangevallen. Achterop het schip waar die grote "spoel" zit hadden ze waarschijnlijk een variabele diepte sonar die ze achter het schip aan slepen. In de torpedo overlaadruimte miste ik de lanceer buizen, maar die hebben ze waarschijnlijk op nieuwe schepen gezet. De "radarkamer" is de commando centrale. Dat is aan boord mijn werkplek aan boord 😁👍👍

    I`ve read that these ships often get used as targets for marine exercises in the ocean. And i don`t think that these ships are`nt any more seaworthy. They just need some diesel to get the engines running..

    • @udayanpaul8042
      @udayanpaul8042 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      For being used as a target ship, the fuel tanks to be completely empty ,also all other tanks should be oil free, as all ships carries tonnes of fuel mostly in the double bottom tanks. It's usually cleaned and oilfre ed, surveyed by a surveyor, then it's towed with a tug to the firing exercise zone. To avoid marine pollution, MARPOL.

  • @lukasausen

    entering abandoned ships is really dangerous, specially if its cealed, because rust start poluting the air with co2 and you could die there in minutes, most rooms maybe fine, but the ones on the bottom may be lacking O2 specially cauldron or engine rooms, since most dont have good ventilation.

    • @oward-lasckey7763
      @oward-lasckey7763 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, i was going to say this, another room to be really careful of is chain lockers.

    • @Beffanz115
      @Beffanz115 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kernal Scott 2 If i remember correctly the CO2 becomes an issue if it "pools" in some confined space (no power in the ship means lower air circulation). There was a video by some infographic channel here on youtube that had something similar happen, though I cannot remember if it was CO2 or CO or perhaps something else.

    • @DasZees
      @DasZees 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      look up oxidation formula for steel. ZERO CO2 produced. Completely unfounded claim.

    • @lukasausen
      @lukasausen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DasZees kahoala3 think for a second, OXIDATION is for example of iron Fe+O2-->Fe2O4, so gradually O2 is coming out of the air and going in to the iron walls, so with less o2 you cant breath, this wont happen as a rule in every contained area, since there might be some sort of ventilation, but it might happen, and you will die in minutes, without anyone to help you, because you would need a full breath suit. i said full of co2 because you wont have enough o2 to breath. yes the "explanation" is wrong but explaining that oxidation slowly sucks o2 from the air takes much time...

    • @DasZees
      @DasZees 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukasausen so now you have a different explanation? and it took just as long to explain. Sounds more like you came up with a reason to make your original comment sound valid. The fact of the o2 reacting with the steel walls and their being less o2 is insignificant because of surface rust limiting the amount of o2 reacted and how much rust do we even see? Sure two people breathing in an enclosed ship create a lot of co2 but the rust does not add any danger, simply being enclosed is enough.

    Hello, I am French, I love your super quality videos but I have a warning to give to those who would like to try the experience. A fairly well-known TH-camr in France has already visited these ships a year or two ago. It is a military site placed under the protection of the French National Navy and the TH-camr in question had the obligation to withdraw its video under penalty of heavy legal proceedings. The ships are still equipped with secret defense classified equipment. This site is therefore monitored 24 hours a day by armed soldiers from the Navy. In short, all of this to warn that it is extremely dangerous to venture onto this site. Protection has also been reinforced since the visit of the French TH-camr

      As a former USN sailor in the 1980’s I highly doubt anything still aboard these ships is any kind of secret technology. Some may well still be classified but in reality this old tech was eclipsed decades ago! So no state secrets to accidentally divulge but certainly a risk of legal action by the French authorities who know how dangerous old decomposing vessels can be. Very nice footage OP! These French ships look very pleasant and clean. They are very similar to USN vessels of the Cold War era!

    42:52 is the boiler room, specifically the burner front area and a hub of activity for the boilermen. The labyrinth of pipes and valves were necessary to precisely control the pressure and temperature of the fuel to each burner to maximize efficiency.
    The next photo shows 2 large gray boxes (coffret) that contain some automated instrumentation devices, the proto beginnings of 'ABC', 'Automatic Boiler Control', which is a fully matured electronic technology today.
    Between the boxes is a small cabinet that most likely contained a phone that connected with the main engine room. Above the cabinet is a clip board holder where one would find the shift schedule, the night orders and probably a menu from the dining galley.
    This little space is hauntingly abandoned in these photos, but in its day, it was occupied by multiple people at once and was a very lively and busy place.
