Regarding 2:42, the Spanish Conquistadors encountered platinum in Mesoamerica & South America during the 1500s. They named it platino, meaning "little silver". At the time platinum was considered to be a nuisance impurity to gold. This was because platinum had such a high melting temperature of 3,215°F (1,768°C) that it could not be melted until the invention of the oxyhydrogen torch. Then platinum started to be used for items of jewelry during the late 1700s by Marc-Etienne Janety who was the Royal Goldsmith to King Louis XVI of France.
@@BurrellsUk An oxyhydrogen torch burns cleanly leaving no carbon soot, because only water vapor is the residue. In contrast, an oxyacetylene torch leaves carbon soot which can contaminate the jewelry being heated.
I bought my palladium wedding when it was a lot less expensive than platinum. I bought my palladium ring for $500 and now that same ring would cost me over $2000. I never thought palladium would one day cost most more than platinum. Platinum and palladium look alike, but platinum is denser. Therefore, it weights more but it’s impossible to distinguish the two just with your eyes. I have owned platinum as well, so I’m speaking from personal experience.
I have both, not as a wedding band, just like platinum group metals and chemistry. Even with a high polish I can see the difference- the platinum is lighter reminiscient of polshed silver where the palladium has a blueish tinge, similar but distinct from my tungsten thumb ring. The palladium cost less than the platinum, even though my right ring finger is larger than my pinky- palladium is the more expensive metal, but the platinum ring ways quite a bit more than the palladium- costs were similar with the platinum ring costing £20 more.
I've been trying to decide between a platinum or a palladium ring for a few weeks now but I think I'm going to go with platinum because of the weight. Call me old fashioned but I like my luxury items to have a certain heft. I'm a bit worried about the scratches but I think I'm just going to have to deal with it as a part of the experience and hope it builds character, not takes it away.
Hi, i found unique metal in the cave more or 40 kilos all in all with differrent sizes but 1 thing n common they cannot attract magnet and high temperature to heat, i suspected it is belong to platinum or other precious metal
Hi Arts and Crafts! I've spoken to Sarel and the design team, and they say that the choice would be personal preference as both Palladium and Platinum are suitable metals for skin allergies, especially if the allergy is to nickel. The content of nickel in precious metals is negligible. Based on current prices, however, Platinum would be the cheaper option. Would you like to know more? What kind of jewellery are you shopping for? - George
I wear a watch everyday. I don’t acknowledge that I’ve worn that watch for over many years. It’s stainless steel… you get used to things to the point where you don’t know it exists on your body. Yet you’ll always know you have it on you and especially in this case, that’s really all that matters.
@@Harkie760 Palladium is more expensive, my palladium ring cost less slightly, but only because it is less dense and therefore weighs less than my platinum ring, in fact in spite of weighing almost half what my platinum does, my palladium ring cost almost as much!
What will b the cost a platinum band vs gold plus if platinum cost more then why is it ? If u say cause of making charges but does it justify its cost being more then a gold band?

Technically they could be alloyed- the alloys would have different properties to the base metals depending on the proportions, but I see no reason it wouldn't work, but you'd need to get it made special as such alloys aren't available as standard.
no but it does need to "regularly" get rhodium plated if it is newer white gold . they take a by product of platinum refining and electroplate nearly all white gold with it , otherwise it wouldnt shine . .at all . they add nickel to gold for white gold and yellow gold is ofc copper . hope i helped . oh and it the rhodium coating wears off it is a dull silvery underneath not anything yellow or coppery.
@@lucytimmerman8687 Wow! I did not know that. Thanks! " Typical alloy proportions are 90:10 or 70:30. These have the chemical stability of platinum, but increased hardness. The Vickers hardness of pure platinum is 56 HV while platinum with 50% of iridium can reach over 500 HV."
My dog found a container of rings just sitting there and abandoned in a field. We tried everything to find the owner but no luck. We searched for 2 weeks. I guess their mine now lol. One strangely looks a lot like platinum and diamonds. Either way, it's very beautiful whether it's real or not, but it's very sturdy and durable. Doesn't feel light at all like plastic or something cheap.
The best preciuos metal in the world economic market today it's 21k Pure Solid White Gold Formula ; life time guaranties , stable price for the next ( 5 ) years. Not speculations and manipulations price like yellow gold, Platinum, Palladium, and other metal including bitcions... The P.S.W.G.F. its in the free world market. $30,000 per ounce...
So in other words, Palladium is the dullest of white metals and less durable compared to Platinum and Silver but costs more due to rarity? Eh…I’ll pass.
My grandmother recieved a palladium engagement ring from my grandfather in the 1940s. Palladium has been a precious metal for longer than 20 years.
Palladium was discovered in 1803
Wow nice. How are they, and you?
Glad to hear, I ordered palladium ring for my wedding.
I probably won't use it everyday, but glad it's actually that durable.

i have found natural platinium like my fists on the river and i need to sell it and i want some rings done done :P
do you ever make jewelry with iridium?
Do you make A 99.99% pure Rhodium ring bands aswell?

Pt950 is platinum, not sure what Pl950 is. Pd950 is palladium.

Considering either platinum or palladium, platinum has this watery surface. But the weight it might be palladium.
How to test platinum
Palladium a hard, yet smooth buttery soft feeling to the touch. ?
What makes these types of metals more valuable than gold despite (now) being about half the price?

Do you buy palladium?.... I think my tito found a metal.... Can we ask help for us to determine that it is a palladium
Why would he say "Platinum is the whitest alloy" when Platinum is an element? That's a bit sloppy.
It's usually alloyed with iridium.

Precious metals have to be mixed to be used as jewelry, so for all intents and purposes they're all alloys
