I relate to Clara's comment about feeling envious of not having access to TH-cam early on. I'm in my 60s (how did *that* happen?), and self-taught. It was brutal back then, learning on your own. A lot of reinventing the wheel. Took a 20-year break from painting and drawing and now re-entering, TH-cam has been a God-send. Love Art Prof! Definitely my favourite art channel. On the other hand, I see so many artists struggling as a result of the pressure felt from social media, and that wasn't a factor. Pluses and minuses, either way. Thanks for the videos. One of the things I love about Art Prof is it's the only channel I've found where it really does feel like there's an artists' community here.
TH-cam is a godsend for introverts, those with social anxiety, and self conscious folk who aren't comfortable learning in person in a classroom full of people ( lol - describing myself - I finished my BA online too )
Desperately needed this. Had a huge "starting - issue" this week so I couldn't make art or anything cuz I was just scared and overwhelmed. Thanks for the video ❤❤
5 months in on the self teaching ...I made a list of fundamentals ( looking at videos like art Prof ...and looking at the big subject headings in the art books ) ... I then found good books on the fundamentals - like drawing basics, color theory, art history, and composition ect .. and created a video list for the fundamental of art in general and subgenres - like wash control or strokes- of my current medium ). Finally I got a habit tracker journal and list out daily weekly and monthly activities that will build my skills and knowledge in these areas - so far so good.
Yeah, it can be really frustrating creating an art community from scratch. :/ At least we have online communities now. -Lauryn, Art Prof Teaching Artist

I am soooooo glad I didn't grow up with social media!!! At the same time it continually blows my mind what is accessible today. -Prof Lieu

Yay!!! Thanks for tuning in with us :D - Mia, Art Prof Staff
I miss having an active art community. Where I am now, despite having several local and regional artists, it isn't a cohesive group by any measure.
