Although I have studied Gower formations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, I have never ever seen anything quite as extraordinary as the formations displayed in this mine! Thank you for this treat. In the U.S., the Bureau of Land Management and National Forest Service have been (slowly) closing many of the abandoned mines in our western desert states. I am aware that many are super sketchy, but even if it were possible to close them all, the gov’t agencies can’t protect (prevent) the adventurous public from climbing those mountainous terrains anyway. aah, sorry this retired Geochemist old lady here is inspired by you folks. Best, Dr. Lauren
Hi @lb1448. I live in the uK and have come across a site where there are bright white terraces like the golden waterfall in this great video ('my' site is like Pamukkale in Turkey but colder and less sunny). You've confirmed a name (Gower formations) but I can't find a reference to them on Google - is this a formal name for the structures? Cheers, Paul
That was a brilliant mine to share with us with all the rare formations and writing from 200 plus years ago. I hope Al gets a new pair of waders. Many thanks to you all.
Cool as hell! These are ochre formations, otherwise known as iron hydroxide, one molecule away from rust. Deoxygenated groundwater dissolves pure iron out of sulfides and oxides in the rock, and when reoxygenated by the air, it settles out as this. It’s also mixed with carbon and sulfur. Saw it underground a lot at Henderson Mine, where it builds these terraces. They’ll build up fast, some places will get that big in like a year!!!
Amazing beautiful mine. The double waterfall was simply unbelievable ...always makes me nervous when you walk thru standing water. What if there was a hole in the floor? lol.
Outstanding formations! And it's incredible that men were working this mine when the news of the day was the colonies had just fought a war to become a nation no longer under the reign of George III, if my history isn't failing me. How long did it take to carve that beautiful cursive in the rock? And wouldn't it have angered the miners swinging hammers and hauling rock as someone else carved their names and a date with a little hammer and chisel taking breaks whenever they wanted?
Great video. I recently discovered your channel after visiting Treak Cliff Cavern in Derbyshire with my kids. Amazing to see the geological and man made features that you uncover. I wonder if you have done a video that explains the basic principles of early ore mining and terminology for new subscribers, if not it would make a great video. Sorry if Ive missed it
Wow, first time coming across this channel, incredible video! I've never read of or seen apotropaic markings in mine workings documented before, so this is really exciting!
Absobloominglutly amazing, I think that may be in my list of favourites. I have to let you know, I just discovered tallow and dripping are the same thing ! x
lol! with all that orange water getting in the waders through the rip and no doubt staining your skin all shades of yellow and orange, you’d think Al was doing his best to affect a convincing Donald Trump cosplay….just grab a fistful of those snottites and throw em sideways over the top of your head to simulate that hideous combover and you’re set for Halloween XD
Those lines you thought were tally marks look more like letters. They extend up and down and are shaped with something obscured at the top. Looked more like very large letters...
I had confused you with the Marseillaise of Grotte-Cosquer. I have been following you for a while, I have not seen your full videos, but this one surprised me with its color. Not much👍-
That wooden box pipe could be for fresh air. This mine reminds me of a mine we found in Oregon with a square wood air tube, and had a massive amount flow stone. Thanks for the video. Check out Abandoned Mine Hunters video Lost in Time.
It's an optical illusion on your part. The light comes from the bottom, and the shadows correspond to a carving (7 and the circle in the 6 and 0). Sorry, it's really hard to explain in text (english is my third language)
This is a lead and zinc mine, he talks about this mine in detail in his first book, and I've explored it myself. The colours are due to a large amount of pyrite nodules in the ground, which when oxidized during mining decompose into iron oxide and various sulfureous compounds

First off, I subbed to your channel near the beginning, and I love it. I'm also very loyal. That being said, please don't continue staging scenes. It was very obvious in the last vid, with the boots, and I didn't comment. This time "stumbling" onto the freshly cleaned writings just seems wrong. I, like so many, came to TH-cam to get away from scripted " reality " shows. Hate being negative but felt I needed to say something.

That was so great! Very beautiful mine and so old too. Beautiful.
Hay, you're on the big telly tonight. Congratulations.

What a stunning mine! That golden waterfall, the witch marks and the carved names and dates. Loved this!
5:23 That MT RT × WI × 1760 is amazing! 260 years ago and it looks like it was just written yesterday! Its so beautifully written too!
That waterfall was amazing

That is some awesome old graffiti, love the Cornish link. Great video as always!
Wow. Absolutely astonishing mine. Cheers guys. Please upload a video of you climbing that ladder. That would be awesome. Be safe.
Colours and formations in this mine are incredible, especially the golden waterfall.

ANOTHER GREAT HISTORY LESSON AWESOME FOOTAGE AND KNOLOGE FROM THE NARRATOR REALLY LIKE THE OLD DATES!
Need to carry some gorilla tape repair kit with you! Amazing engravings! Great mine.

You guys definitely find some lost mines
Hey guys excellent amazing. Thanks so much for this. Stay safe look forward to the next episode.
Absolutely superb mine. Loved it . Thanks 👍❤
Wonderful history, very interesting!!!
Was that real gold? The water fall? And writing on wall?
Wow!
Fantastic!
Thank you gentlemen 🙏
The age is just mindblowing
10:33 WOW, that looks like a scene from an Indiana jones film. You can imagine him walking up those steps.
I can thoroughly recommend The Welsh Potosi, it’s a beautifully researched and presented book.
Excellent!
Great explore as always guys
Wow that was fantastic to watch. I absolutely loved seeing the golden waterfall .
absolutely wonderful!

I enjoyed the video (as usual). Have you ever had a very strange (borderline bizarre/spooky) experience in a mine?
As always a great video, some of the lead mines in north Wales have similar formations.
Wow! Just WOW!
earths ear canal
Wow!

Amazing 👏🏽
Should get Ben O Cam down there 😂
You should bottle that orange stuff and sell it to Trump, its a perfect colour match.
That's hilarious man😂😂😂
Problem is ,he won’t actually pay for it ..
Trump 2024 guaranteed
A green filter on torch, shone across the carving will make it very clear.

the bit at the end i meant
11:52 looks necrotic
Few yella streams near me
05:22 1760 - It looks like the text is protruding and not carved into the wall. Is that the case? How would that be possible?
Optical illusion. See hollow-mask illusion.
@@TheGramophoneGirl Yea, thats the most logical explanation. Would love a confirmation from the channel though. 😎

@@nixie2462 It a very strong optical illusion. 🧐
Quit sticking your finger in slim, that's how we end up with patient zero and then a year later, zombies everywhere....
How about make rubbings of graffiti you find, in the daylight they might give you a bit more info than a shallow angled light and a camera gives ?
I’ve seen a lot of mine videos, but nothing that colorful.
You need a roll of sealing tape
Si Finds sent me! Do you have to have a permit to go in the mines?
Non permit needed but we do get permission when needed
What were they mining ? Definitely photographic , excellent explore !
Probably copper. The guy they mentioned at 5:00 had a bunch of copper mines
