Great video, but there can be another solution. I am right handed and left eye dominant. I have always shot right handed with handguns, rifles and shotguns . I have hunted for 50 years now and have always been successful hitting what I am liking at. I have shot years of trap and International skeet and was almost always in the 23/25 brackets, with some perfect 25/25 rounds. I have always shot with both eyes open in all forms of shooting and found it works for me . I have seen people try to switch and it turned into a disaster. Based on that I don't feel there is only one way to shoot cross dominance, or maybe I am just dam lucky .
PRACERZ I am cross dominant as well, I shoot all my guns in competition right handed and the shotgun is possibly what I am best with. Although I do use my left eye with handguns, still shoot those right handed.
I have the same issue with my eyes. I used to put a tape on my glasses for my left eye. That kinda worked. I also tried shooting left handed. That didn't work. I now close my left eye when shooting skeet. The problem is that on occasion I peak. This causes me to miss. I'm considering shooting right handed and get a lens which blocks the left eye.
Stephen Kutney try with both eyes and your right will tend to focus more. Well worth the try. IMHO

For those who are cross-eye dominant (for example, I am left-eye dominant and right-handed), and you want to shoot with both eyes open, just cross-sight aim. Meaning, if you're shooting on your right side, when you see two sights, aim using the left sight. If you're shooting on your left side, when you see two sights, aim using the right sight. Pretty simple. Basically, your sights should never visually be in the way of your center LOS.
Also, glad to see Chris Cheng being featured. The competition in Season 4 had very skilled and experienced shooters.
This is easier said than done. It takes a LOT of practice to do it this way consistently. I have the same handicap as you do, and it’s better described as “allowing the view of your right eye to be superimposed to the view of your left eye”. Granted I started learning this with red dot and holographic sights, but it’s difficult just the same if you don’t have a perfect cheek weld every time. And I mean PERFECT

I found out I’m cross dominant & before I found that out I was getting frustrated.
Now I close my left eye and am hitting allot more clays .
I use my left eye when using pistols since it's my dominant eye but use my right eye for long guns cuz im dominant on my right side it's strange but it works.

Do you have to zero a shotgun? I have rifles, but I've never owned or fired a shotgun. Would like clarification; before, I buy one for a rabbit/ squirrel hunt.
No the bead(s) are fixed it you get a shotgun with them. You pattern the gun at different ranges. Chokes are important with shotguns. Look up the differences on chokes and see what'll be best for you
Any tips for how to properly seat a shotgun into your shoulder? I have a pump action 20 gauge and although I am a very good shot, I’m finding that the shotgun tends to “slap” my shoulder when I fire 3 inch magnums. The next day I sometimes get a bruise. Just depends on how many I fire. I recently stepped up too a break action double barrel 12 gauge for taking to the sporting clay range. This will also be my primary shotgun for upland birds. I know it is a bigger step up over my 20 so when I fire it I want to do it the right way.
Well fuck! I'm not kicking here, I'm currently watching top shot season 4. I'm right at the moment Chris and William are shooting. Grrrrr!

as an instructor I have found that with a complete novice if they are cross eye dominant it is much more problematic to try and make them shoot of the opposite shoulder than to just get them to close the other eye they have enough to contend with without making it even harder for them as a beginner .I have an experienced shooter who has partial sight in his right eye and he used to push his head right over the stock to line up his left eye this was with limited success and I slowly convinced him to try and shoot of his left shoulder and in the beginning it was difficult for him but we persevered and soon with practice and advice he was bashing them clays and went from 30% to 75/80% I don't know whose more pleased me or him
Thanks for your comment. I am a complete novice and cross eye dominant. I feel like I could have more success if I closed my left eye. My instructor wants me to keep both eyes open so I do. Do you agree with this advice? Also, if I shoot enough, could my right eye eventually become dominant?

I want to buy m4 carbine but here in Philippines full automatic is not allowed so i change my mind i will buy shotgun or hunting rifle.
What do i do? My left eye appears dominant but i am right handed. It feels so weird holding the gun with my left hand. Is there a way to change what eye is dominant or am i screwed?
Just get used to shooting and it will fall in place, after all it seems you are left eye dominate while holding a shotgun because you are usually using your right eye (if you are right handed) to aim and stuff. Meaning the right eye has more things to do and the left eye is free to do what ever. Just practice with some clays or in a blind and you will see what I mean. Hope you killed some and so luck for next season.

you wanna know what really sucks??? being right handed, being left eye dominant, and completely unable to close my left eye. i can close my right eye no problem. but i absolutely cannot close JUST my left peeper. this has sucked for my whole life. ive tried everything and all the tips and tricks. i simply cannot do it. ive tried everything other than the russian sniper trick. perhaps i can do that,.... get a patch for my left eye ball. otherwise i have to cock my head waaaay over my rifle. yeah its hilarious looking im sure. but im actually a pretty damn good shot, i just look funny shooting. lol

Kids playing video games crack me up. They think a shotgun will just destroy an entire room with one shot. LOL Even birdshot, from a cylinder bore, will only make a single hole inside of 5-7 yards or so. You better be aiming, if you wanna hit anything. Get off of your mommies couch, and go outside and shoot a "real" gun. You'll be AMAZED.
Browning Maxus you have to aim I mean a scatter gun you can hip fire it I do it all the time but if your using like slugs you have to aim same as a pistol and rifle

First, I want all you knuckleheads out there, including Chris, to state the date, just like I have done. Now, Chris, you are missing key points about using a long-gun (rifle or shotgun):
1. When a projectile (shot or a bullet) comes out of a barrel, it is subjected to gravity so that it starts dropping immediately. The trajectory is parabolic. So, you don't aim right at a target, but elevate the barrel to a point above the target to compensate for the bullet or the shot. The amount of elevation is proportional to the distance from the end of the barrel to the target. Wind acts on an a bullet similarly to gravity. So, you also have to lead left or right depending on the strength and direction of the wind. Finally, when the target is moving you have yet another parameter for leading, i.e., the speed of the target. Only in outer space can you hit a target when you aim right at it.
2. When you are aiming a long-gun, lift the elbow of your trigger hand to above the level of the stock. That will promote steadiness.

Actually, you're both wrong in regards to sight picture with most modern shotguns. Since you seem to own shotguns, pick one out of your safe and look how the gun is manufactured. You should be able to figure out where the sight picture should be without shooting it. If not, look again. BTW, there's no prize if you figure it out.

So, I looked for a shotgun video to try to understand how that student in Houston, TX killed his victims. I didn't know you could load 6 shots at a time but, in any event, that Dimitrios fellow kept saying "another bites the dust" after every shot and, I suppose, when he ran out of shots he turned to his caliber 38 revolver and kept on firing away to increase the number of victims from 6 to 10. So, am I right in my assessment of that situation?
