Like the way you let your boys be boys, teaches em alot, plus they have a blast, they work hard, have good morals an work ethics, kids raised on a farm or ranch are way ahead of most city kids. Dont change a thing, you guys are great parents.

I don't know if you want to tell Josiah about it or not, but he may want to look online for MAPP gas guns. There are also electronic igniters for model rockets that run on a battery. I taught physics for forty years and love a good explosion.

Cluttered farm/ranch can cause injuries on animals as well as humans. Not to mention the hygiene of a farm/ranch where diseases can affect animals and humans. Thank you for the great info on maggots. I plan on implementing this for my own chickens 🐔.
Ohdearlord! If you like your birds yes figure out a broody breaker.. DO NOT OLD SCHOOL ICE DUMP YOUR HEN! when you have the knowledge to allow you to be a good steward and gently change the brood USE IT. There’s no reason to be cruel. Broody breakers 100% work and you keep your hen laying. You just need to get her away from her flock and nest and sometimes the flock.. airflow airflow airflow.. don’t be cruel if you have an option

We used to put our broody hens under a potato basket to break their brood. Seemed like it took about three days then they were good to go.
Mastitis is no fun. I hope Rebekah is feeling better. I had it twice with my last baby. Seems like when it comes on you get sick fast.

NICK is a natural with animals. He's a great mentor to teach all the kids how to care for them another step higher. You are very lucky to have this guy helping your Homestead at this time. Especially now before you were to head on to the hospital for Jonah's surgery which we all are praying for the best possible outcome, may G^d be with y'all. Yes, with high hopes trusting all goes beautifully, much success!!
I put broody hens in a wire cage with NO bedding or hay to make a nest, just the wire they cool down and stop being broody in just a couple days. thnx for sharing I enjoy your content

Rebecca, you my heart goes out to you. I had 17 mastitis infections. One so bad with my last babe to land me in the hospital 😱! I had 7 babies in 7 years, 6 sons and last my daughter.
I think you need to put something around that flame of the rocket launcher you hair is gonna go up in flames. Lol I raised three boys I understand the consequences of poor decisions, they sure make life interesting lol.

I’ve actually but a frozen water bottle under a brooder hen and they get up pretty quick easy to move her at that point. Ice bath sounds good too except how long would you have to keep her in it?

LOVE the whole setup! I am starting to venture into growing maggots here on the homestead in the city! Chickends need lots and lots of protein in their diet and food costs are just too high! so We have to figure out another way?? remember with the surgery they are going to tell you 6-8 weeks recovery. It's a lie because no one wants to hear the real recovery time of 1 or more years. If he starts working too soon he will be back to square one

yeah, that too we don't need our dear Rhodes family to have anymore injuries or challenges. that bucket was dripping on the chickens head and the other one is pecking the gunk off the chicken. Lower the buckets more. And your poor goose probably had a racoon pull on hin and started chewing good luck with that. Pigs eh oh I hope the I hope they don't out.
We use an old, heavy stock pot for our dog bowl. Deli had a really bad habit of throwing her bowl up in the air when she wanted to be fed. She knew the noise would get everyone's attention. The stock pot has handles that you can run a bike lock through to tie it to something.

Goose math 1 wounded goose get 3 to replace and 25 laying chicks to keep the extra goose company
For the whinny stashing problem; if you have a stand for dog food bowls you can make a top board exactly the same as the one holding the bowls but have it laying on top so that the lip of the bowls is sandwiched or clamped between two boards. Put a hinge on it and some nice lock and it would look professional and you would be able to wash out the bowls.

The same thing happened to me with my windows. They brought mine down but not low enough. Ugh
We had a large breed dog that we had to use a cast iron pan for a feed bowl. It was the only feed pan he didn't carry off, or chew up.
