  • This is a documentary outlining Aaliyah’s life and career, and why we haven’t been able to stream the music until recently. This video provides perspectives regarding the impact the inability to stream her music has had on Aaliyah’s legacy future generations of music listeners. No copyright infringement intended.
#Aaliyah means the highest most exalted one. On August 25th 2001, 22 year old American singer and actor, Aaliyah, passed away in a tragic plane crash following the completion of a music video in the Bahamas. While her accomplished career and artistry have always been a fascination for many, her music has effectively disappeared off all digital services for over a decade.
While many attribute blame to the estate (CMG) and #Blackground (2.0), it is in fact a family matter that we do not wish to fully dissect in this video. We respect the family, friends, estate, colleagues, and EMPIRE for bringing Aaliyah’s name and now, music to life in the new millennium and beyond. All rights belong to their rightful owners, particularly CMG and EMPIRE.
I am very excited to present to everyone several fans’ perspectives on Aaliyah, her music, and the impact that the unavailability of her music has had on current and future generations of music listeners. I also want to showcase how music consumption has changed. In August 2021, it was announced that Aaliyah’s music would be brought to streaming services alongside other albums in the Blackground catalogue.
This fan made documentary seeks to provide fans and music listeners alike, a look back into Aaliyah’s life and career. Many of the clips used in this video archives have graciously been made available online from fans all over the world. Some clips, images, and audio (all of which ha been altered out of respect) were made available by E!, Viacom/MTV, BET, Much Music/Bell Canada, Blackground 2.0 Records, The United States’ Congress, The United States Copyright Office, CMG, and EMPIRE. As always, No copyright infringement is intended. This piece does not serve as a platform to defame anyone or any parties mentioned. #aaliyahiscoming

Aw! This is such a great compliment. I’m so happy you think I did her justice; I couldn’t have done it without fans and of course all this footage of Aaliyah. Thank you so much for watching and please check out my other videos on my channel if you are interested in more music documentaries 💛💚
