Great looking gun. I have the Flintlock version of this one. A thing of beauty. Great video and review.

.50 caliber seems to me to be the wrong bore for a b. p. pistol called the "Trapper". Elmer Keith (for example) when he carried a black powder revolver on his trapline took along a .32 colt. Imagine all those gapping 50 caliber holes in them valuable pelts. Yikes!

That's a good point. Most trappers I know use a .22 caliber pistol to put down trapped animals. I have a seven-shot .32 revolver that I'd probably use, but even though I have my trapper certification, I don't actually trap. Just wanted to have the option to do so. And I didn't buy this for dispatching animals; merely for fun.

Got my Traditions Trapper (50 cal) two weeks ago.... Took a full day to locate a FFFg Pyrodex from a source ninety miles away... But I have a source, I don't care.... Looking forward to working up a hunting load.... Just have to find out how much powder this Trapper like to eat.....

I use 25 grains of FFFg Triple 7 or 30 grains of Goex FFg for optimal accuracy (that seems to be a decent conversion ratio). It can shoot up to 45 grains of FFFg (but I think that is the max for Goex and other real blackpowder, as opposed to substitutes like Pyrodex and Triple 7, which I'd likely max at 40 grains to be safe). I'm bringing it on a pronghorn muzzleloader hunt as a means by which to dispatch if necessary, so I'm not worried about maxing out the kill power.
