Women's soccer has always been relatively strong here in England, the win will increase the knowledge of the players. As an Englishman, I will support all of our teams. I hope the women's game will show the men that you can support your team without denigrating others, and singing stupid songs, the atmosphere in the games was respectful battle, we don't want the girls to lose that combative edge, and we don't want the fans to be silent, but we do want fans and players to respect each other

The LIONESSES as they are known have been a good team, sometimes a great team. But that has all changed when SARINA WIEGMAN was appointed Head Coach in Sept 2021(JUST 10 MONTHS AGO). Since then the LIONESSES have played 20 games, they have won 18 and drawn 2 and not lost any. They have scored 106 goals and conceded just 4. In the Euro Championships Sarina has led the ENGLAND LIONESSES to this record: W 6 D 0 L 0 SCORED 22(A new championship record) and conceded just 2 goals. The sores record is ( 1-0, 8-0, 5-0, 2-1, 4-0 and in the final 2-1)
But there is something special about SARINA WIEGMAN, as she was the head coach of the previous Euro Championship winners the NETHERLANDS(Her homeland) So she is the FIRST coach to win the Championship back-to-back with TWO different nations. Her record at the 2 Championships is PLAYED 12 WON 12

    • @omargj1
      @omargj1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

In my opinion the English national team at least in recent years had not a lack of quality skilled players, but before Sarina Wiegman became the manager, they had a sort of psychological or mental weakness, some lack of confidence on themselves it was clear that when the matches were not going as they expected, the rivals scored, etrc their morale would fall appart, but with Wiegman in charge and with the coaching staff she got, the players are way more confident, it became clear in the match against Spain, before Wiegman the team would lose confidence and a similar match would finish with the rival wining by 2 or even 3 goals, but this team didn't gave up, they knew they could win, and once England got the equalizer there was no doubt that the one that had already lost the match was Spain.

These women are tough, determined, organised and they play with a unity and a joy that you rarely see in the men's game. Women can compete with men on equal terms in sports where strength and stamina aren't paramount. Men have an advantage in that area, however sport is an entertainment business now and competetive, drama filled contests are entertaining regardless of gender. One thing that stood out during this Euro 2022 competition is the teamwork, camaraderie and likable personalities among the teams. They didn't drop like they were shot at every opportunity, they didn't bully the umpires, spit or behave badly. The crowds were enthusiastic and a safe place, with no agro, no lager louts, no abuseor intimidation, something you can take your kids to without fearing the worst. It's a lesson men's football should heed.

I made a blog post after the final arguing that this was not just a victory for England, but for women in general. Did you know that the TV broadcast of the game in the UK had more views than any other TV broadcast this year, and that the 84,000+ attendance at the match included a hell of a lot of men? And while all the hype in the British media was about the English victory, I made the point that the Germans were equal partners in it. It was a splendid game of football, very tight, and could just as easily have gone the other way. (I was still glad we won, of course, but Fraulein Oberdorf's tears touched the heart strings a little.)

I only wish that I could put in a bottle the monumental happiness, pride, the passion and the overwhelming excitement and send it over to you guys across the pond.
The woman weren’t allowed to even play football in the UK in the 60’s, fifty something years later and we not only won the World Cup we told them that the sister’s are doing it for themselves.
I cried when we won, I ran into the street with my Lionesses flag in one and my horn in the other and a dance with the thirty something boys and girls that live in my cul-de-sac.
We as women just didn’t make history, we left a legacy for all those young girls to follow.
Lucy Bronze as well as many other young girls went to train in the US because the rules in the UK said she wasn’t allowed to play football with her team anymore because she was a girl, she came back home and she smashed it.
I’m a Manchester City fan concerning the women’s football, I got my season ticket the other day and I cannot wait to see some of our girls when they are playing against Arsenal, not to win but to hopefully thank the women, and get my England t-shirt signed ✊

The thing about the womems game in Europe now is that the standard is 300^ better than 20 years ago. Back on.2005 there were two decent international teams. The US and China .
The level of training and professionalism has sky rocketed . It just goes to show the game at its best is beautiful regardless of the gender of the folks playing it.

@@paganphil100 Refereeing and commentary still lags way behind unfortunately. In the WSL season 2020/21 a penalty was given for handball when a girl in a free kick wall jumped to head the ball, arms very clearly by her side. Everyone apart from the ref was mystified, yet the resulting penalty decided the game. Then there was the second yellow card being given without the player being sent off. It's long past time that officials were professionals too.

Also there is a video of the party at Trafalgar Square that was put on for the Lionesses in front of a huge crowd where again - lots of precious moments and memories.

The back heel nut meg goal that went through the goalkeeper's legs in the Euro Championship Semi-Final between England and Sweden was the 3rd goal in a 4-0 victory by England. It was scored by Manchester United Women's forward Aleesia Russo. The poor goalkeeper for Sweden is the normally top-class Hedwig Lindahl. Russo has been used through the whole tournament by GENIUS head coach Sarina Wiegman as an IMPACT SUB, coming on around 60 minutes replacing fellow striker ELLEN WHITE.
In the final which England won the goalscorers were in order: ELLA TOONE(ENG) LINA MAGULL(GER) CHLOE KELLY(ENG). FINAL SCORE ENGLAND 2 GERMANY 1 A.E.T.

A great thing of this England team and Sarina Wiegman as their manager is that England was able to start with a quite solid XI, and then in the earlier minutes of the second half bring Top quality substitutes, who are as good or probably even better than the starting players they replaced.

@@omargj1 That is correct, for the first time the LIONESSES started every Championship game with the same starting XI. Sarina Wiegman had the confidence to start with the same players and then to start to bring on the 5 subs from the same time in the second half
