A creepy detail I found out...Elizabeth Montgomery was actually distantly related to Lizzie Borden. She didn't know it at the time of the filming of "The Legend of Lizzie Borden", but she was actually her 6th cousin, twice removed. *shivers!*
One interesting fact: Lizzie was an early advocate for animals. She rescued many and dedicated a lot of her money for the cause. Many of the parties that she held at Maplecroft were actually fundraisers for animal rights organizations. Another interesting fact: Lizzie's uncle (her mother's brother) lived next door to them and he killed his own children. That family had some real issues.
Didn't Lizzie leave her money to animal rights as well? Hard to believe that someone who loved animals as much as she did, would commit such a heinous crime.
@@mariadmaldonado7979 Not really. She very well could have loved animals but in one dreadful situation where she felt driven up a wall she could also kill people.
I was born in Fall River and I remember visiting the house back in the 80s. I have a lot of fond memories of growing up in the area. Thank you for a wonderful video.
Love this place, I stayed at this B&B back in the 90s and slept in Lizzies room. I wasn't afraid at all since the house was so beautiful. Loved the hatchet pancakes for breakfast. Also toured the cemetery and the cool gift shop.
Lizzie and Emma didn't live together until they died. They had a personal issue around 1909 and never spoke to each other again. Yet they died within days of each other in 1927
While attending my grandmother's funeral there, I asked the caretaker where Lizzie was buried. He said "Not with the family." When I asked why he told us it was because people through the years "tampered" with her grave. So everyone knows she's not where she is supposed to be, she had been moved - but nobody knows to where. True or not, it was interesting.
@@steveusn6852 I'd suspect that if she was moved to an unmarked place, you could look at available lots vs what is headstoned and see if things dont line up.

Emma moved out of Maplecroft long before the sisters died. They had a falling out. Lizzie changed her name to Lizbeth after her trial. The rage that was seen in the way that Andrew and Abby Borden were killed suggests the killings were personal done by someone who was full of rage.

Great job with Lizzie's story! Enjoyed the video! The main reason Lizzie got off was the phrase "guilty beyond reasonable doubt"! Even though many things maybe pointed to Lizzie, nothing directly tied her to the murders. They had to let her go. They could not take her life on "maybe she did it". Back then, many men, (jurors), did not believe a woman could commit such violent murders. Elizabeth Montgomery's portrayal in the tv-movie of how Lizzie could have done it is very plausible!
I've seen a couple of your videos now. I think they are great. The respect and dignity, in which you communicate your knowledge is so great. Looking forward to see more videos.
Lizzie was ostracized from polite society/ her social circle, after the court case. She did go live high up on the hill with actors and actresses as her only friends, which was frowned on in good society. Actors were looked down upon.

Quick correction...Emma lived at the Maplecroft house only for a short time, as she was firmly against Lizzie's lesbian friends and 'acquaintances' that frequented the house. Also, you can read the actual transcript from the trial...there's a book written verbatim from it. 'The Trial of Lizzie Borden' if I'm not mistaken. Their Uncle that visited and spent the night before the murders was the only other person (IMHO) that was a legitimate suspect.
The problem is he doesn't appear to have any true motive he didn't profit from Andrew's death, only Lizzie and Emma did so I can't see that he had any part in it other than possibly knowledge. I've often thought that the maid Bridget knew of the murder but probably didn't help and covered for Lizzie. I've been very curious to know what happened to Bridget after this
@@skye.325 I remember reading somewhere that Bridget moved to Butte Montana after the trial. She married a man she met while working as a maid and died in 1948.
I’ve been avidly waiting for this video and you both did not disappoint. Lizzie (her name was actually Elizabeth) Borden changed her name after the murders to Lizbeth, I guess to try and distance herself from the tragedy. Fun fact: Elizabeth Montgomery was related (distance cousins) to Lizzie. As for whodunnit? I think Lizzie did commit the crimes, possibly in collusion with the maid. It’s interesting to note that had Andrew died before Abby, his estate would have passed to her and then, with her own death, to her relatives and not to the Borden girls.
Another well done tour. Always interesting in your technique. Another Haunt you may be interested in visiting is Jefferson, Texas. The Diamond Bessie murder took place there and at the time of the trial (1877) it was as sensational as the O.J. Simpson trial in the US. Her grave is worth a visit in a very historic graveyard. Several of the hotels there are reputably haunted. My favorite's the Excelsior, built in the 1850s, and from first hand experience I believe it. There's even a nightly ghost walk tour visiting all of the saloons and brothels from the hell raising days. A beautiful well kept town.
That's not far from where I live. I've been there years ago, but never had time for sightseeing. It is a beautiful town with some interesting history. While I'm thinking of that area of the state, Scottsville cemetery is a must-see. Just south-east of Jefferson, it's got some of the most beautiful statuary you'll ever see in such a small cemetery. It's a classic example of the American "garden cemeteries", with rose bushes, flowers, ornamental flowering trees and shrubs, etc.. Well worth the visit for anyone in the area.
I have always been intrigued by this story, even as a small child. I'm so glad I came across this and I could honestly feel the emotion as you had come full circle. Thank you for sharing this! You have a new follower for life! Blessed Be....... Jonathan from Atlanta

Very Awesome video once again👍Kudos to Michael and Jessica, you are so much Fun to watch😘
Elizabeth Montgomery is your second cousin? That's awesome! Did you know her well? I remember when I was a kid she co-starred with O.J. Simpson in a movie originally titled A Killing Affair. I think studio executives eventually ended up changing the title to something a little tamer. I admired her courage for doing that movie, as an interracial love affair was at the center of it.

Im a borden by blood and i gotta say that watching this was amazing, pictures of the house and how you explained it all Fun Fact : in the 1960s when my mom was a teenager that house was a private residence, she lived there until martha Mcquinn bought it and transformed it into a B&B During that time she had run ins with spirits, Her bedroom was andrew and abbeys room and she supposedly saw Abbey walking from the ajoining room which was her dressing room in 1892 into the bedroom

Great stuff! Love the channel. I'm a native of New Bedford (no longer reside there though) and have been to the Borden house as well. Unfortunately never made it to Maplecroft. I can remember my sisters saying the Lizzie Borden rhyme while jumping rope as kids. Seemed like everyone new it back then. Not sure how much time you were able to spend in New Bedford but there are a lot of old historical homes, areas and cemeteries there I'm sure you'd find interesting. Unfortunately it's not the same city it once was...but still some nice areas nonetheless. Looking forward to more content. Subscribed.
Love this video. I always believed that Lizzie was guilty. I also think that probably back in those days, it was highly unlikely that women were sentenced even when guilty of crimes. At least, that is my theory. If it had been a male, he probably would have been convicted of this crime. I just discovered this channel. Keep bringing them.
Michael, you’re such an amazing storyteller and cinematographer!!! When I’m watching you and Jennifer, nothing else exists. Someday, you need to direct a movie my friend. I know it would be an incredible time, up for an award. Peace, blessings and ‘Happy Halloween’💀♥️🤟🏽
That was lizzies bedroom at one time. But she convinced Emma to switch rooms with her. At the time of the murder Lizzie had the larger room. Emma slept in the small adjoining room.
Thank You for the very insightful video. I am related to Lizzie, and like her I am, from Fall River. So many people get the facts wrong but your short video was on point. Thanks again.
Crazy to think standing where she stood, seeing the things she seen…mind blowing history like you say, not morbid just documenting history. Boy would I love to see Jack the Ripper locations myself 👀
The Jack the Ripper locations are still there but they've changed a lot since the 1890's. London is a lot bigger city now and there are modern buildings in those locations.
Ok. Totally my favorite so far! My mom who is 92 now, we’ve watched the movie several times many years ago. We loved Betty Davis. Thank you for doing this one. Loved it!
Couple minor mistakes. Lizzie’s real name was Lizzie. After she was acquitted, she changed her name to Lizbeth. Also you are correct that autopsies were done of Andrew & Abby in the dining room but Lizzie didn’t faint there. She fainted in court when they brought in the actual skulls of her parents to show the handless hatchet could have inflicted the wounds in their skulls.
You DO have a good life. It's always great making your living doing what you love. When do you plan to take these adventures international? There's a lot of spooky sh*t in Europe.
We took a tour of the house just a couple of months before you filmed this. The guide was very well versed in the complete story, including a number of things that are not generally talked about. When we went, we, like most thought Lizzie did the killing. After the history lesson, we both have come to believe that she was the brains, but her uncle actually did the dirty work.
I believe she did it! But she was more than likely an ongoing victim of incest! Whoever did it must have had alot of rage in them to kill like that, in such a up close and personal way! She probably harbored a lot resentment towards the stepmother also, who knew about it and did nothing about it! I'm glad she was acquitted! No one talked about that stuff in 1892!
I was born in Fall River, Ma. and share the same birthday as Lizzie Borden, July 19. I am friends with the former long time owners of the 2nd St. house and more recently the French St, house, Donald Woods and Lee-Ann Wilbur. Unfortunately Lee-Ann recently passed away right after selling them.
I was there back in 2010. It felt weird being in the actual spots where her father and step mom were killed. Maplecroft really is a nice looking house. That’s where the kids would stand outside yelling that rhyme at her towards the house.
I imagine walking past that house at like 2 in the a.m. and seeing a young girl in a victorian dress looking at me through the second story window holding an axe.
Wow. You and Jess were busy AF on the east coast. The amount of ground you covered was staggering. . Who else is going to aggregate this much content of this nature? And do so this professionally? Just awesome. looking forward to chilling with y'all back home on another one of your movie nights. Happy Halloween/Thanksgiving! And thanks again.
The story i have heard there was some estranged person in the family that was involved or helped lizzy. Something about this strange guy was standing outside the house before the murders & who actually purchased the house where lizzy lived the rest of her life. Was it about money or something more ?
I've spent the night there too! Interesting experience. Lizzie Borden was born with that name, but she later changed it to "Lizbeth of Maplecroft".. probably to give herself a new identity after her acquittal. They moved there in 1893. Loved Oak Grove Cemetery! When we went down it was incredibly hot and humid, then there was a shift in the air and it came in crisp and fall-like! Totally magickal experience!
BTW, love your videos and the adventures you go on. I have also been to some of the places you visit since my dad was always interested in murder cases. My favorite is Sharon Tate.
Saw a news interview done in Wisconsin, and the gal being interviewed looked like a kinfolk to Jessica. Great story on Lizzie. Makes me think of a band Thin Lizzy.
From what I understand Lizzie always called her step-mother Mrs. Borden. There were also rumors, nothing was ever substanciated, that her father was having an incestuous relationship with Lizzie. Also, it pissed Lizzie off when her father loaned Abby's sister money. There are also a lot of misconceptions about Abby. She was not the shrew Lizzie and her sister portrayed her as. She cared about those girls, and really tried to be a mom to them. It was a terrible tragedy all way around.
Not true. Emma always called Emma "Mrs. Borden." Lizzie initially called Abby "mom" because she didn't know their real mom well when Sarah died, but after Emma and Lizzie found out Andrew gave money to Abby's family, Lizzie started calling Abby "Mrs. Borden." They also stopped eating meals with Abby and Andrew.
That is so cool you and your other half actually went inside that house, the fact that the house is even still standing after everyone passed is amazing
I have stayed there overnight twice. Stayed in the Hosea Knowlton room. We definitely were visited by the kids in the room. The toys in the chest moved and we brought a board with us and the kids answered
I heard once a year the Animal Rescue League puts flowers on her grave. She supposedly left a lot of money to the organization in her will.

He actually does say that. Micheal says that the sisters had a falling out and Emma moved out.
Yes, fascinating book! - "The Trial of Lizzie Borden" by Cara Robertson.
It's a great book😁
I never knew that about Elizabeth Montgomery. Cool!
@@jillt1071 It’s amazing isn’t it. Apparently, Elizabeth Montgomery never found out her familial connection to Lizzie.

That made for TV movie she did as Lizzie is great.

Lizzy Borden was also a pretty good metal band in the 80s, Give Em The Axe and Me Against The World were popular songs back then.
I have always been intrigued by this story, even as a small child. I'm so glad I came across this and I could honestly feel the emotion as you had come full circle. Thank you for sharing this! You have a new follower for life! Blessed Be....... Jonathan from Atlanta
Just came across your channel thru the TH-cam recommended vids. Love your content!!! Actually had one of my first supernatural experiences at Lizzy Borden's grave.

In a little more than a week, we're doing a jury trial at that courthouse in New Bedford. I am SO excited! I have never been to Massachusetts and I'm stoked that my first time will be in Lizzie Borden town. Cheers!
Loved it, thanks for the tour. Someday I will make it there.
6:12 how Ed is it that you’ve come full circle Michael?! 🎉 We are stoked that you and Jessica have a passion for everything Halloween and horror! Thank you for doing this!
You did a great Job on this, thank you for sharing. How sad there was never Justice for Mr and Mrs Bordon. May they rest in peace 🕊️🕊️
I have never visited the Lizzie Borden place but I would really love to, as I am also interested in things like you and Jessica are.. My 2nd cousin is Elizabeth Montgomery who played Lizzie Borden in the movie and I have always been in Awe of her portraying Lizzie.. Very Awesome video once again👍Kudos to Michael and Jessica, you are so much Fun to watch😘
Would love to have Sam from Bewitched in the family!
Elizabeth Montgomery was also distantly related to Lizzie Borden, whom she portrayed in a 1975 movie.
@@paullittle9187 yes , she was very witty and as kind as can be.. My mom always said we looked alot like each other and we could be sisters😊I remember that movie and yes, she was a diamond in the rough..God rest her soul..
I did the tour back in October. The tour guide I had was amazing!!!
The one thing that the tour did do was make me think differently about pears 🍐 🤔 LOL....
I do agree that it's like a who done it type of mystery. I've been trying to get a few friends to rent the house with me to do a ghost tour next year. I'd love to walk around at night to see if anything happens. Next time I go up there I plan to visit Maplecroft.

Thank you for taking us along on your wonderful adventures.
You two are amazing!💙
This video is amazing! I love how on her grave there's a pair. "Lizzie Bordon took an axe gave her mother 18 whacks when she saw what she had done gave her father 10 plus 1"
You guys have had me hooked sense the lynyrd skynyrd location ...mad respect guys your channel is awesome keep up the GOUL WORK LOL

I just started following you guys and I fell upon this video. I live in New Bedford! I’ve seen so much Lizzy Borden in my life , because I’m from the area I didn’t watch this video right away… I wish I’d of known you where coming here. I would of gladly taken you guys to the places that only the locals know.
The ghost of Lizzie?! 15:08 And fyi, folks, they are asking $890,000 for Maplecroft. Could be a nice B & B for tourists.
Michael you and Jessica put out awesome videos. Hope to see ya Dec 5th.

Im a borden by blood and i gotta say that watching this was amazing, pictures of the house and how you explained it all
Fun Fact : in the 1960s when my mom was a teenager that house was a private residence, she lived there until martha Mcquinn bought it and transformed it into a B&B
During that time she had run ins with spirits, Her bedroom was andrew and abbeys room and she supposedly saw Abbey walking from the ajoining room which was her dressing room in 1892 into the bedroom
Oooh, freaky!!
15:15 the window being opened when Jessica was saying she thought Lizzie had a hand in the murders creeped me out lol

I'm from Sydney Australia and will never get to physically visit even a third of these incredible place's you guys frequently visit. Thanks so much for your awesome video vlogs 😎🤘
Subscribed.
I love yalls channel!!! U guys take me on a historical journey into the past right from bed! Thank yall for yalls hard work!
Great video Grimmlifecollective! Maplecroft is beautiful, I love the old craftman design houses. I lived in one when I grew up. Such a sad story!
It's crazy to me that the cemetery knows how many people want to be there so they give you directions
That was lizzies bedroom at one time. But she convinced Emma to switch rooms with her. At the time of the murder Lizzie had the larger room. Emma slept in the small adjoining room.
Have a great Thanksgiving Grimmlifecollective.. looking forward to the next UpAllNight
Cant believe Zak Bagans hasn't bought it yet
Loved it!
Bette Davis never played Lizzie Borden. It was Elizabeth Montgomery.
I hope one day I will meet someone that will love me like they love each other and I get to travel with them to spooky spots.
The Elf On The Shelf Christmas Carol th-cam.com/video/wnHkwXY7iJo/w-d-xo.html *********************
I would have loved to meet you guys here in Fall River, glad you guys had fun here.
We took a tour of the house just a couple of months before you filmed this. The guide was very well versed in the complete story, including a number of things that are not generally talked about. When we went, we, like most thought Lizzie did the killing. After the history lesson, we both have come to believe that she was the brains, but her uncle actually did the dirty work.
yes the evidence points to that
I love how that it's not just the story but they also pay attention to small details of the place they visit. 💯❣️
John did it
I was born in Fall River, Ma. and share the same birthday as Lizzie Borden, July 19.

Cold down here in Georgia as well. Another great video. 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I imagine walking past that house at like 2 in the a.m. and seeing a young girl in a victorian dress looking at me through the second story window holding an axe.
Imagine instead a fat 32 year old woman with her hair up.

They believe it could have been an Uncle or something like that who hated the familly. Lizzie and Emma had him come over, told him what to do.
@@abbyroadme The uncle had an alibi so there is no way he was involved.
Lizzie baught Maplecroft on her own.
@@elspethcoogan1499 I heard it could have been an uncle in another show but they did not say he had an alibi. Thanks for that information

My favorite is Sharon Tate.
i'm very new to the channel and from boston / all over new england, welcome!
Saw a news interview done in Wisconsin, and the gal being interviewed looked like a kinfolk to Jessica. Great story on Lizzie. Makes me think of a band Thin Lizzy.
Another great story, chilling, and it’s details again. Nobody can tell the story like you can excellent video.
Thank you both for going to these awesome places! Love the paranormal part but the history is fascinating! Looking forward to your next adventure!

Love your laid back and informative video! I will be watching more of you both!
The house for sale is in great shape. I would buy it if I had the money .
