    Also from Calgary. Just bought a 2024 R. Your video was the nail in tbe coffin. Upgrading from manual 2018 GTI Autobahn with a APR stage 1. See you on the roads.

      I'm forcing myself to wait for the 2025 model, hoping we get the black edition up here. In a stock 2018 right now.

      And when will it arrive? Any ideas ?

    Very nice. First time I've seen a Mk8 R with Pretoria wheels. The most perfect looking wheel, imo.

      I love them! These, of course, are the 18” Pretoria wheels, but I’m tempted to get a set of 19” Pretoria wheels for the summer too.

    I wish the GTI Autobahn had the cloth seat option.
    Ditto the R. The R cloth seats are beautiful.
    Great car. I’m a tiny bit jealous. I went thrifty: GTI S trim.
    For me, it was between thrifty S or the R. But because I just don’t drive much anymore, I went thrifty.
    I really love the infotainment system and really love the clean dash aesthetic.
    I had a 7.5 GTI.
    I prefer my 8 by a long shot. Including the interior

      I’m with you there. Heated cloth seats are just so cozy, though I suppose we’d miss out on cooled seats if we had cloth.
      The Mk8 in any trim is a great car! You’re going to love your GTI!
      I’m a big fan of the interior. It’s clean, uncluttered, simplistic. The infotainment is easy to use once you learn how it works, the shortcuts, customization, tricks, etc (like anything else).
      I came from a Mk7.5 R, and have no regrets.

    Where in Canada are you?
    And will you be taking a drive up into the gorgeous Canadian Rockies?
    That would be sooooo cool. I’d love to have my GTI on those roads.
    Canada is amazing. I’d move there if I could.

      Calgary, AB!
      Yes, I have taken it into the Canadian Rockies, which are about 45 min west of me. I’ll be sure to get some video footage on my next trip there.
      The Mk8 GTI and R is just a superb all-around car.

    I’m getting mine in a few weeks I live in Canada as well how frustrating is not having an automatic start that’s the only thing that had me on the fence.

    Great Video! Can’t wait to get my 2024 in February. How is the cabin noise? I am coming from a veloster n, so it must be a lot quieter.

    • @stevenbacchus8000
      @stevenbacchus8000  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Congrats on your new R! You’ll love it. 6MT or DSG?
      The cabin noise is surprisingly quiet. It can get very windy where I live, and it’s pretty muted.
      Right now, even on winter tires, I’d say this Mk8 is quieter than my Mk7.5 Golf R was on summer tires.
      Engine noise? Well, between the Soundaktor and valved exhaust, you have control over how much pumped-in sound / true exhaust noise you want. I will say that even in the most aggressive setting, it’s still a pretty quiet car that can fly under the radar. I drove an M340i yesterday, and the (stock) exhaust on that car was a lot louder. This can be a pro or a con, depending on what you want. I think I prefer to not let everyone know I’m speeding. 😂

      I’d like to be able to turn off the pumped in sound on my GTI.
      I’m old. I just want a fun little car that’s quiet - lol.

    The Golf is way prettier than the Honda & Acura.
    And smaller. The Honda & Acura have just gotten way too bloated.

    • @stevenbacchus8000
      @stevenbacchus8000  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot smaller. Can you believe the Mk8 Golf R is a foot shorter than the newest Civic Type-R?
