OMG. Your TH-cam video is the ONLY one that allowed me to factory reset my MacBook Air. I looked at several other videos and they did NOT work. I am grateful that I stumbled on your video after going thru numerous ones. Thank you 😊
Tried nearly everything on my 2017 macbook Pro Air. Was about to throw it away then i made one last effort and found your video. Now it’s like a brand new mac. Big thanks! 🙏
Dude, you're awesome!!! Been battling with this issue for hours and every video was talking about setting date, you were the one who fixed my problem by changing server location! Thanks
@@MOTTOFRESH 1. Turn off Mac. 2. Press "option", "command", and "R" keys then press the power button one time. This is for the newer version with a newer style. Just got doing it. It really works. Try this also @midnitelux
THANK YOU! I can not express my gratitude. After nearly two months, I thought my MacBook was broken... I had nearly given up hope when I came across this video, thank you so much! I hope your channel grows, because this IS quality content
You are a life saver man. I had my Macbook 2017 on High Sierra for the longest time, and I thought I needed to get a new laptop. This step by step video helped so much. I was seeing my laptop load multiple times, and I was holding on for dear life until my laptop finally turned on for me to set up my account. Thank you x1000. 🙏
Worked for me, thanks men. What most people don’t realize is that after you press “options+command+r”, it automatically disconnects you from the internet and you need to connect back to the internet before you continue the process.
I was so stressed out when I received a white version of this 🚫 that appeared after performing a factory reset on my mid 2014 MacBook Air! After a few hours of searching, restarting, holding different combination of keys, and thinking I had completely destroyed this perfectly fine computer, I found your tutorial and IT WORKED! The trick seemed to be quickly selecting the command+option+r like you said… that and patience AND updating the date. Thank you so much!
Guys I was almost giving up. Then I thought of giving it a last try. I did the date correction from the terminal in my previous attempt. However it didn't work. Then I tried the utc time. Copy the exact same time and date in the format which y'all must already know. The utc time correction from the terminal worked for me..hope it will help y'all as well. Cheers.
What a LEGEND spent forever trying to fix my laptop thought I would have to take it in somewhere but nope just adding the options key and sorting out the date worked a charm!!! THANK YOU!
This worked! I kept running into problems, getting the new hard drive installed. New errors with every trick I looked up. Only got me so far. The new option control R command got me in and updating the time and date allowed it to happen. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you. You have the right information to solve the problem. I watched videos all day and I knew you were the one when you explained about Apple shutting down the serves that provide the older version that macOS… No words to thank you for making this video. You save the day. Two hours later…. I have a new laptop. 😊
OMG!!! Thank you soooo much for your help!!! Your tutorial was the only one that worked amongst the others I watched. It was straight and to the point. Thank you!!!!! 😀
I have been fighting for three long days to solve a problem that was solved by adding the "option" key I thank you very much for this information and I wish you that everything that happens to you in life is good. A hug friend.
Hi Kaan! I tried the option (alt for me I think because my keyboard has no option button) + command + r and got the spinning world. However instead of having the option to set a wi-fi, the bar under the world stop moving and next to the bar it says "24:00". It didn't happened anything else after that. :(
If anyone has this issue remember your Time Machine backup will restore your OS as well if you have one. Thanks this helped a lot I went to restore my mid 2011 iMac and had the same issue surprised this works so I can get high sierra and not have to buy a snow leopard cd to use my iMac again.
Thank you so much for your video on this subject. Pressing Option, Command + R got me to where I was able to install the latest version of OSmac for my Macbook Pro 2015 earlier. Thanks again
this doesn't work on a 2011 Macbook that cant run Mojave. Unfortunately, the latest OS I can run is High Sierra which as you said, no longer has active recovery servers. I have attempted to boot the computer from a bootable USB MacOS installer for several different versions but I am unable to do so as of yet. It seems that to install high sierra i need an internet connection to download additional OS libraries(even when booting from usb) and the install never successfully finishes. Now I am stuck and I don't know what to do. I attempted to install an older version (lion) but was unable to because that version is older than what the computer shipped with.
Apple did not shut down any servers, it’s an SSL incompatibility problem introduced by apple upgrading their servers. Check newer videos for the solution
I have an old iMac (2011) that I erased in attempt to wipe clean and restore the computer. While trying to to restore my OS I am experiencing the "the recovery server could not be contacted". I made sure I had a good internet connection and updated the date. What else can I do?
You da Man!! “…Apple actually shut down the servers ….” Too bad Apple is so focused on making money they can’t be transparent and put this information out there. Thank you for great problem solving.
You are my savior! I wasted a whole day of my life on this nonsense! They really shut down servers with old OSes and there is simply no way to recover to them. I spent the whole day looking for information on how to reinstall and only came across articles with "wrong date". I couldn't even reinstall from USB, because the mac came to me with an erased SSD and I couldn't turn off the T2 chip, because for this you need to enter the password from the admin, and there are NO PROFILES, because the disk is erased! Thank you very much for the video
You mentioned T2 chip which is installed on Mac models 2017 or newer. This also means it could be iCloud locked like iPhone or iPad to the original owner. It’s been awhile for me to do any macOS diagnostics and troubleshooting, just curious if this is the case and if you’re able to log in to your iCloud.
From an old fart that was about to bin my MacBook Pro (2017) because it appeared to have died thank you so much for providing this short video, it gave me exactly what I needed for my MacBook to spring back in to life. Brilliant!11
It worked like a charm with the command + option + r. I have a 2017 macbook with high sierra and with the new menu, it installed ventura. Btw I oppened my macbook after 2 years without using it
Thank you very much. It worked. The line of code isn't clear. It would be helpful if you could share it here in the comments. No other video or guide worked. Thank you!!! You save the day and my Mac Air 2017!
hello, macbook air 2011, I saw everything on youtube & google, nothing happened in my case, there was high sierra on my mac, everything erased and its impossible repeir now, command+option+r not helped :(
It seems to be working for me, but I had a few extra steps since I'm fresh installing macos onto a new 3rd party SSD (2017 13" MacBook Pro No TouchBar, version w/o soldered SSD). Since I'd formatted it as MacOS Extended (Journaled) for High Sierra (ie the version from just cmd+R) I wasn't able to see the drive in the cmd+opt+R version (either for Ventura install or with Disk Util - which was odd). Instead, I had to boot back to cmd+R version, reformat new drive to APFS, boot back into cmd+opt+R version. NOW it sees new drive and is currently installing Ventura. Success is near!
Guys when you reboot your Mac, simultaneously hold down these keys Command + Option + R (not just Apple/Command + R). In the 'Reinstalling MacOS' field, it will offer you Ventura. If you only hold down 'Command + R,' the system takes you to an older recovery setup offering older OS like High Sierra, which Apple no longer supports. That's why you get the message: 'Recovery Server Could Not Be Contacted.' So all that changing the time stuff won't help. Good luck 😊
Hello. Great video. Tried each step (connected to wi-fi, date/time correct, etc.) and the iMac 27" is still not connecting to the server. The computer originally came with High Sierra (2017) but after using CMD+OPT+R, it did pull up the option to install Ventura; however, same issue... I followed another person's instructions for High Sierra and it actually made it to the point where it would get to the next screen option; however, there was no location to select or choose in order to install so it seems like one problem keeps leading to another. All I was trying to do was reset the computer back to factory settings and applications that came with the computer when I bought it new so I could give it to someone else.
