as a native german speaker I just wanted to give you some feedback: you did amazing honestly and your accent is surprisingly mild. a lot of americans struggle with the „r“ in german as well as the „ch“ so thats nothing to worry about. :)

As an American who spent 14 years learning the German language, you did a great job with your pronunciation and there is absolutely no reason to be insecure about your abilities, especially when you are still trying to learn the language. Great video and ausgezeichnent

Aww Abby that was ausgezeichnet! As a german myself I weirdly always avoided the german asmr videos. Idk I just don’t like them as much as the english ones. But you made this video so nice and I enjoyed it. Thank you for your courage 🥰
I understand completly what you're talking about. I always enjoyed english asmr so much more than german. Maybe it's because of the "hardness" of the german language? An english friend of mine once said to me, she was thinking, that we germans are yelling or cussing at each other, because it sounds so rough. :D English ist softer, kind of melodic, i think, so maybe it's easier to relax to. :)
You speaking in German is so relaxing. I've been learning German for 7 years and still don't know much lol but you did so well! Looking forward to another of your German speaking video! ♡
Thank you Emma! Ahhh I saw a post once of someone saying it took them 9 years to finally get their A1 in German and so many people said they could relate so you’re not alone! 😂 We’ll get there! 💪🏼💜
I’m from Germany I have to say that your German is really good 👍 I heard Americans before, speaking German and your accent is really good so don’t worry
That German "r" is so recognizable. As a Belgian we had German classes in highschool. I remember I could say an isolated "r", but wherever a phrase had multiple "r"s, my throat just seized working and no more sounds would come out. Then I stopped doing the German "r" altogether so I could at least practice my vocabulary and grammar.
You know there are multiple [r]'s in German, right? Yes, the standard language requires the "German" r but regionally there are 3 major forms of the r in the various dialects. Don't worry too much :D
@@bobbwc7011 We were asked to speak the school "r", the difficult one. I don't know why they wanted to make it difficult for us. I thought grammar and vocabulary would have been more important than the pronunciation of a single letter.
As a native German speaker I only have to say two things first you speak the language already very well and I liked it watching you for the first time and second sometimes you pronounced the „ch“ a little wrong which isn’t a big problem but as an example on the numbers you pronounced it like a g a little bit but at minute 22 you pronounced it correctly on ich but that’s just something little and you will get it eventually 👍

I love the similarities in the vocabulary between the german and english language. It makes them so much easier to learn. I often hear that the german language sounds aggressive for none native speaker, but then I hear you speak this words, then they doesn’t sound so bad to me at all. Given the same background of both languages shouldn’t they sound so much threatening to each other. I mean don’t we all have Germanic roots regarding to the language in the end? 😂

I'm a native German speaker and are absolutely stunned by your pronunciation and knowledge. Especially considering you're a level A2 and considering you didn't start learning very early. You're so good at translating all these phrases (tbh I didn't know how to translate some of them properly out of total brain lack) and you sound just like you've been practising for ages or even like you spoke German forever. For sure some things in German aren't easy, for example the pronunciation and use of "ü", "ä" and "ö" or the German "R" or the pronunciation of "Ch" but I think you managed them really well and you know, where's the fun when theres's no space to improve? Without further rambling about German and all its hard sides, I just want to tell you that I think you're doing absolutely great. Even despite German being a pretty weird language. So please keep going and since I'm obviously no native English speaker, I'll have to apologise for possible grammar or spelling mistakes. Have an amazing day! :)

I feel you- im also American and living in Germany. It took me a long time to learn German even though I lived here for years because most Germans switch to English when they realize I am not german. And once you establish a language (especially with a partner), it’s so hard to switch. But this is so cool that you’re over here too!
Also you absolutely can train your accent through practice! I found the r difficult in the beginning too. It sounds dumb, but it helped me to eat something with cream in it like ice cream or even cheese before I practiced lol
I’m so proud of you love! I got a degree in german and japanese and I am still so insecure about my pronunciation and speaking part, so i totally get what you mean 🥲 Anyway, you slayed!!! i’m not a native speaker but i AM so proud of your improvements. My grandpa was German, so I have always wanted to learn German. Unfortunately he died before i was born so I didn’t get to meet and learn German through him. Now that I am headed to college i finally get access to learn German. Yes, i know there is online apps tht i could learn thru but i learn better in a classroom with a teacher. I have tried online but i never seem to learn that well. Also thank you for sharing your story with us. I cant wait to finish college and be able to visit Germany and actually be able to speak in their language.
4:02 SHE must be living another Berlin I guess🤣🤣 cause the last time I visited Berlin no one spoke English, the only people who did were the shopkeepers and hotel employees.
You’re so sweet and you did great! I study foreign languages at university, in particular English and German, so this video was perfect for me! 🥰 keep up the good work 💪🏻
Perfect video to learn new things , you are amazing. I'm glad to know where you from and learn from you. Thank you! See you in the next video , I can't wait!
This is peak adorable! I mean this 100% positively. First of all, don't worry about your accent. Although you speak with a noticeable one, I don't see it blocking any understandability. Much more important to get vocabulary up really. But if you want to go for the brownie points, I think you are on the money with what the key point is, with the "r" sound as example. German uses lots of guttural sounds, and getting comfortable speaking those will drastically improve your pronounciation. Everything else is much better than what I have heard from many many other people.. You got this! Give it like 2-3 years and you're going to be super comfortable with german. And again, don't sweat the accent, just give the gutturals a practice if you feel like it. (:
German is the one language I always felt sounded most like English (even with my lack of knowledge of German overall), especially with how much the two share similar terms and phrases or even different terms that both still convey a similar meaning. I wonder if that's something you and your partner ever joke about with one another 😄
Oh my God I can finally flex with my knowledge from my Medieval English studies! That's because English partially derives from a very early form of German, called Anglo-saxon. If you read very early English (Old English) literature, as a German there will be a lot of words that sound kind of familiar or even close/the same depending on the dialect that's spoken in your area. There are some words we use in Cologne dialect that are still similar to Modern English, like the phrase "En Appel und'n Ei" ("an apple and an egg") or the word "Aap" (Ape) :)
i don’t speak any german at all lol so this was so interesting and super tingly!! pretty please do another one of these as you learn more! also, the writing sounds on the board are 10/10 and i would love to see another video with it! thank you for an amazing video as always
It’s funny because no one would actually say wunderbar or ausgezeichnet to answer your question: “wie geht es dir?” Germans are more like “oh well it’s alright. I’m ok.” Not really interested in asking that question. I’m living with my Australian partner in Australia and at first it was so awkward that no matter where you’re going people would always ask hey how’s it going? How are you? 😅 but your accent is pretty good. I can tell that you’re American by your accent which I love but yeah I think your pronunciation is really good and you’re doing a great job! 👏🏻
I'm a Chinese and I'm learning German too! I find it quite hard, you know, the "r" pronunciation and all the "die der dad". I'm not even getting the a1 yet but I'll work on it. Your German is just fabulous!
Since I like listening to ASMR, TH-cam suggested your channel to me. I'm from Germany, maybe that's why ASMR in German Video was suggested to me 😃 I love your videos and look forward to going through all your videos 🙂 I also think it's great when someone starts learning German; I also try other languages every now and then 👍
Great idea. I often feel german sounds very authoritarian or even angry, but this doesn't sounds like that at all! 🤯🤭perhaps confusing events like this is something to sleep on 🙃😌
3:09 Easy on the self-criticism! Your reasons for not going full-tilt-boogie German when you first moved are completely reasonable, and English was probably super easy to come by the whole time. You do excellent work, keep it up, arre, namaste.
I've been waiting for this video! 😀 No need to be insecure about your accent. It's very sweet. 😊 11:20 The german "ch" seems to be very hard for many foreigners (my GF is from korea, and she struggles with it as well .. and also with our "r"). It sounds a bit like "k", when you say it. Anyways. Really nice video so far! Hope we can hear more of that in the future.
Native German speaker Here: Your pronunciation is incredibly good! Honestly? I couldn't tell that youre Not a native speaker from some of those phrases. :) I Hope that you are keep on learning and Sharing it Here, i'll subscribe and See what else you do :D
I think that more German/English asmr would be awesome, despite living in the United States I took a semester of German in college, but before I could proceed to German II the professor who was teaching it left to return to Germany, thus I did not have the oppotunity to learn as much German as I wished to either.
So wie du dich fühlst wenn du deutsch sprichst, ist wie wir uns fühlen wenn wir englisch sprechen. Der Akzent, die Angst etwas falsch zu machen, etc. Man hört zwar, dass du keine Muttersprachlerin bist aber im Vergleich zu anderen US-Amerikanern ist das Nichts! In ein paar Jahren sprichst du sicherlich beinahe perfektes Deutsch🧚🏼♀️

Also you absolutely can train your accent through practice! I found the r difficult in the beginning too. It sounds dumb, but it helped me to eat something with cream in it like ice cream or even cheese before I practiced lol
I’m so proud of you love! I got a degree in german and japanese and I am still so insecure about my pronunciation and speaking part, so i totally get what you mean 🥲
Anyway, you slayed!!! i’m not a native speaker but i AM so proud of your improvements. You are always so hardworking and humble! Keep going 💜💜
Sie hat es gut gemacht. Zu mindest, Sie strebt darauf. Bin sicher, Sie wird besser jeden Tag. よくできました。I'm from Kyrgyzstan but I did my masters in Germany and now I live in Japan. Abby 頑張って!
Deine Präsenz strahlt eine positive Energie aus, die sofort Ruhe bringt
My grandpa was German, so I have always wanted to learn German. Unfortunately he died before i was born so I didn’t get to meet and learn German through him. Now that I am headed to college i finally get access to learn German. Yes, i know there is online apps tht i could learn thru but i learn better in a classroom with a teacher. I have tried online but i never seem to learn that well. Also thank you for sharing your story with us. I cant wait to finish college and be able to visit Germany and actually be able to speak in their language.
4:02 SHE must be living another Berlin I guess🤣🤣
cause the last time I visited Berlin no one spoke English, the only people who did were the shopkeepers and hotel employees.
Your pronunciation is stunning.
Very good job!
I’m currently trying to learn German in school so this is great.
Good luck I am German and I’m to dumb for my own language 🫡🤧
@@Alissia121 same🥲
Im german and your german is really good :)
Aw thank you!!
I’m currently learning German, and I’ve been learning for almost a year :)
Thank you SO much for this❤❤❤
Hi, ich finde das sehr gut, wie du das machst. Kannst gern öfter solche Videos erstellen. :)
Wunderschön gemacht, vielen Dank! Es klingt toll, wenn du Deutsch sprichst! 🥰
OMG I have been waiting for a german video for years, ever since you mentioned you live in Germany
Amazing video Abby I took the 2 year basic German classes in HS and I only knew greetings haha learning a lot.
You’re so sweet and you did great! I study foreign languages at university, in particular English and German, so this video was perfect for me! 🥰 keep up the good work 💪🏻
I was sooo hyped when you said you were gonna do this! You never seem to disappoint
Thank you so much!! I am determined to practice that “r” sound haha I appreciate the kind words! :)
you did great !
Thank you! 🥹🥰
Guten Tag! I'm learning German with Duolingo right now.
Hallo! That’s awesome :) Wishing you the best of luck with it!
As someone who loves falling asleep to asmr and is learning German, this was great lol
Sehr gutes Video. Dein Deutsch ist richtig gut. Ich hoffe du lernst noch weiter und hast Spaß an der Sprache. 😊
Keep up the great work💪💪
Thank you so so much! I am behind on your videos, as I was in Mexico for the past week, but I am so excited to relax and catch up!
I can't wait to watch this! Thanks again, Abby! :)
The erasing of the board sounds so nice 😌 great job!
This is the first vid I’ve watched of you and only 2 mins in and love it already. ☺ 😊
I'm a Chinese and I'm learning German too! I find it quite hard, you know, the "r" pronunciation and all the "die der dad". I'm not even getting the a1 yet but I'll work on it. Your German is just fabulous!
I'm German and for me, learning Chinese is quite hard as well. (:
Ein wunderschönes entspanntes Video und super Geräusche und sehr schöne Stimme liebe abby❤️💜🥰
27:00
was mein lieblingstag ist? ich kann auf jedenfall verraten das es nicht montag ist 😅
My girlfriend is in Germany right now as a nanny and I’m going to visit in October! Thanks for the relaxation and some words to use while I’m there!
Since I like listening to ASMR, TH-cam suggested your channel to me. I'm from Germany, maybe that's why ASMR in German Video was suggested to me 😃 I love your videos and look forward to going through all your videos 🙂 I also think it's great when someone starts learning German; I also try other languages every now and then 👍
„Danke schön,“ can sometimes mean, “Thank you beautiful.” I’m a german speaker (not native but fluent) I say it to my gf all the time
Gute Nacht, du bist sehr sympathisch wenn du Deutsch sagst. Liebe es 🤩😍🤞🏻
Great idea. I often feel german sounds very authoritarian or even angry, but this doesn't sounds like that at all! 🤯🤭perhaps confusing events like this is something to sleep on 🙃😌
You did it so good ❤
your grrman is so good! I totally did not expect it to be so smooth. hut ab! (kinda like "respect!")
3:09 Easy on the self-criticism! Your reasons for not going full-tilt-boogie German when you first moved are completely reasonable, and English was probably super easy to come by the whole time. You do excellent work, keep it up, arre, namaste.
I've been waiting for this video! 😀
No need to be insecure about your accent. It's very sweet. 😊
11:20 The german "ch" seems to be very hard for many foreigners (my GF is from korea, and she struggles with it as well .. and also with our "r"). It sounds a bit like "k", when you say it.
Anyways. Really nice video so far!
Hope we can hear more of that in the future.
Ich bin erstaunt das du so gut deutsch kannst. Das wusste ich gar nicht. Ich mag deine Videos sehr vor allem die Licht Videos
Absolutely the Best Video so far. Oder auch das Beste Video bisher😁
Native German speaker Here:
Your pronunciation is incredibly good!
Honestly? I couldn't tell that youre Not a native speaker from some of those phrases. :)
I Hope that you are keep on learning and Sharing it Here, i'll subscribe and See what else you do :D
I think that more German/English asmr would be awesome, despite living in the United States I took a semester of German in college, but before I could proceed to German II the professor who was teaching it left to return to Germany, thus I did not have the oppotunity to learn as much German as I wished to either.
it was a very good video. especially for me as a native german speaker.
So wie du dich fühlst wenn du deutsch sprichst, ist wie wir uns fühlen wenn wir englisch sprechen. Der Akzent, die Angst etwas falsch zu machen, etc.
Man hört zwar, dass du keine Muttersprachlerin bist aber im Vergleich zu anderen US-Amerikanern ist das Nichts! In ein paar Jahren sprichst du sicherlich beinahe perfektes Deutsch🧚🏼♀️
Ohhh this is soooo cool😍 I’ve been waiting for this ever since you mentioned it in another video😍 thanks🫶🏼🥰
i'm a native speaker and i have to say that's a very good video and your pronunciation is fantastic,
greetings from finland
My wife is German she’s been trying to teach me German and I’m getting there slowly xx
You did an amazing job and your voice is so calming❤️ could you please try Polish in future? This language is full of trigger sounds
This is sooo good! Can't wait for a part 2 😀
Hallo, ich komme auch aus Deutschland! So viele Deutsche hier! :) Du hast das so gut gemacht, deine Stimme ist immer sehr entspannend. ❤️
Could you maybe do a q&a, especially about Berlin and how do you feel to live there? I heard so many nice things, but it would be even better to hear those from you :)
I learned more German from this video than 2 years of German in school. Well done
