NBC Bay Area: Why would you not include a link to the updated USGS maps? 🤔
Yeah, I'm saving up to get the f out of California.
Its not a matter of where. It’s a matter if when.
I live in Santa Monica California (Los Angeles County) used to live in San Francisco. My house is new and built to current earthquake codes for California and the office I work in has been retrofitted to current California earthquake codes. I have a storm shelter with a month’s worth of food and supplies in the case of an actual earthquake emergency.
I forgot to add the biggest earthquake I was in: Loma Prieta in San Francisco October 17th 1989. I was at the A’s-Giants World Series game! 15 seconds of pure adrenaline and fear! I’m glad I wasn’t on the Bay Bridge and especially not on the Cypress Expressway!
I know right? Poor dude was sharing how he was stuck in the crack of the bridge with his car face down at the ocean!!! I'd have LOST it. I was 5 in 1989. I recall vividly being with my father about to walk into Toys R Us for a Cabbage Patch Doll. My father grabbed me by the back of my shirt and I was just hanging in the air screaming bloody murder over not getting that doll 😂😂😂😂
Having grown up in the Bay Area, know this 40+ years ago in elementary school. One of the leading research labs is located in Richmond with a building shake table.
Take care everyone God bless us
Based on past history, I'm surprised the probability isn't 100%.
1940 El Centro 7.0
1952 Kern 7.3
1971 Sylmar 6.6
1980 Eureka 7.4
1987 Whittier 5.7
1989 Bay Area 6.9
1992 Landers7.2
1992 Mendocino 7.2
1994 Northridge 6.7
1999 Ludlow 7.1
2019 Ridgecrest 7.1
Left out Napa 6.0 2014
I'm a Carpenter what does that do to a one floor house??
Depends on what counts as damaging. Most of these listed happened out in the boonies (ridgecrest) or at a really low depth and didn't really damage anything
@@arxligion Definition of damage doesn't have a threshold, but if that's a criteria, Ridgecrest had in excess of $1B in damage to buildings and roads. Ludlow had damaged freeway bridges and a train derailment. Northridge had significant damage and a number of deaths from an apartment complex collapse. Cape Mendocino had around $50M in damage and a few hundred injuries. Landers, the boonies, had around $90M in damage. 1989 Bay Area quake had in excess of $5B in damage plus deaths. Whittier, a few $100M and a handful of deaths. Eureka had millions in damage. My "favorite", Sylmar, was my first big quake as a teen, and had at least one collapsed freeway bridge, $500M in damages and somewhere around 60 deaths.
Without even looking at the two events earlier than 1970, I'd say most, if not all, of the mentioned quakes had damage.
It is 100%. It's just that you can't set a date on it because it's unpredictable by design.
I was on the Bay Bridge 1989 when it broke
I studied the Hayward Fault....we were due for a major move within 30 years.
It is 35 years now.
But I did move away from the Hayward Fault.
Made sure I am not on sediment
I think it has the highest probability with the greatest damage
The Hayward fault outright scares me. I recently moved further away from it too and feel much better.
What is known throughout the nation as CERT, Community Emergency Response Team started in California.
The concept is neighbors helping neighbors in times of disasters.
At this point, I'm wondering if San Francisco will get their next Big One before LA does.
The whole West Coast is overdue...
That sounds like a cable installation , I should be there between 6:30am-9pm ! 95 years well yeah 👍🏻
I could have told you that.
Slow news day.
Damn not shocking and yes its a reminder that we are at the 30th Anniversary of the Northridge quake.
Even if we’re all vaccinated?
Hahahahaha! * Fauci hops out of the bush he is hiding in tumbling with leafs in his hair "THOSE of you that are vaccinated need another booster - especially for this excursions in solar maximum"😂
😂
new vaccine 2025 to make you immune to earthquakes👌🏼
When it comes? 😢 Any conformd date?
We are in solar maximum with the magnetic protection field decreasing now a 100 times faster- this because of a geomagnetic excursion . That means that between now and 2030 we will experience worse and worse weather until the energy highly likely will move the crust. That means INSANE eruptions and eq. Also waves of abt 400 feet. Get ready for cold weather for consecutive years. This has happened 150 times before every 12000 years with smaller impact every 6000 years..
Oh it’s gonna happen , it’s gonna suck
Builders and developers definitely won’t take this new information into account if that would cost them any money at all.
Oh god, people this is just scare tactics. Name somewhere that doesn’t have some sort of threat of natural disasters?!!!!
Maine. Most of the Midwest. Most interior lands of countries that have access to large aquifers.
So no, it's not scare tactics. It's basic reality. Let me guess - you're a boomer?
Michigan's pretty solid
@@Fizzlefry9 it’s full of liberals and progressives. I’d rather deal with the earthquakes.
There is a 100% chance a large earthquake will happen, fyi

I actually don't see how this changes anything outside of better seeing where an earthquake will occur. Not necessarily that it will occur more frequently or any differently.
We've been having earthquakes throught the years. Just the majority of them don't really do much other than rock you to sleep. We always talk about a big one coming but the reality is that's just by design here. But you can never know when because it's unpredictable... again... by design.
... Duh!
Wait, there are Californians who DON'T know this?
My locals like 1965 moved to LA and one quake HOME.. $$$$$$
Newcomers don’t
Is Sacramento in that zone?
Oh hey they just showed my hometown napa. Look mom, our town is on tv !
You can say almost anything can happen in the next century. How does this help?
Wow...pulled straight from the 'No-Shit-Sherlock' file.
none of US will be around to see if this is true or not....
Very few have earthquake insurance. An 6.5 or larger shallow under a city would be catastrophic
Waste of money, any time there's a large earthquake the insurance companies either go out of business or refuse to pay, seen it happen over and over. If the problem is big enough, they just don't pay out.
Insurance really is a scam that our government forces us to pay for.
Why not just flash the map on screen and yell "boo!"
Basically, everywhere 😂
If I was living in California, I would take a vacation around 6-21-24..
stay tuned for lottery numbers...
oh now Newsom will come up with tax proposals to prevent earthquakes.....
This is like saying that cars have a 95% chance of being self driving or obsolete in the next century. My god.
Very likely during LA olympic
Oh no…They tell you before it happens..! Connect the dots..
Prophetic? 4.6 today, Malibu and some aftershocks 😮
Solo Dios padre sabe el momento el día ,oremos par que tenga misericordia de todos sus hijos
STILL WAITING!!!
Mankind's true enemies are rarely acknowledged until they've already done their damage. In the meantime, don't forget to fight about food, water, heat, sports, relationships, movies, politics, and most of all... MONEY. 💪😎✌️
Glad I won't be here in the next century.
oh wow
Qué térribes acontecimiento esté ellos en EEUU
Australia 🙃
After ishikawa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Props to California lawmakers in destroying their own state with shtty policies before the earthquake can get to it with any damage.
Boring ...
The news has been saying this since I was a kid….i am in my 50s and the big one hasn’t happened…lol
The earthquake will happen in between May to June. God told me Write this down when it happens
One happen today 😢
😂😂😂 Sure!
in the next century is too long. I want to see it right now.
Yes please 🙏
Right by all the expensive coastal real estate - what a scam!
Most coastal real estate is a scam
I think it’s worse in the Far East
Well the residents of California better up the payments for climate change prevention tax
This can be avoided, but not for free 👏💵💵👍👍
Climate change is real, but earthquakes aren’t impacted by it
