Viruses are not living things. Everybody should know that...or I guess. But this is very helping.

There have been debates since "living thing" is a construct created by scientists. It is based on facts and common sense but also because someone said it is so. There are reasons that make viruses appear to be living until looking at how they function. In science (unfortunately and fortunately) you cannot just say something is so, you have to say it and then explain with what is known. Since people continue to learn sometimes things can change based on learned fact or changed classification. For example, Pluto did not change when it lost its title as a planet, we just view it differently.
