The water doesn't need a pump, it uses the capillary action of water to make the water climb up the filter. If you've ever dipped toilet paper in the toilet still holding it, you'll see the water actually moves up the paper against gravity. This is the capillary action at hand as it works more under the principle of filling areas of low distribution and cares less about gravity. It's also how heat pipes for cooling work. Though your personal swamp cooler is far bigger and capillary action does cap out after a few inches. I bought a small 12v swamp cooler for my cabin. It helps cooling and moisturizing the bedroom on hot summer days. It’s not a huge difference but it helps a little. It cost me 12 bucks and yes it has a pump to circulate the water from the tank over the curtain.
Thank you, I saw this advertised, it looked great, clicked the link, then when I looked into it further things just didn't seem right, then I found your reviews, thank goodness! Saved myself some dollars.
You know these adverts are scams its always" Top dentist, Top engineer" top this or that the best one top drone engineer leaves a top company because they charge too much for his indestructible drone, just like those magnetic wave wands and bracelets. but you watch one because you cant believe the crap the spew they'll never bloody end.
I bought a product similar to this for $35. At that price, I thought it was fine. I take it outside and point it at myself when I sit down to read. The moist air actually helps with allergies a little.
Lots of swamp coolers don't need a pump, they just rely on hydrostatic equilibrium to pull water up. It's similar to how a tree works. Dryness at the top of a structure will cause water to travel upwards and reach all the upper branches.
I fell for it, but I got my money back (well most but 10). Reminder: never buy something from a random site at midnight during a heatwave, in 2020, during wildfires.....
@dobby and gollum studios I called them and got a refund. Give it a shot. They actually refunded me BEFORE I even shipped the unit back. So I'll give them points for that!
They still actually sent it to me, even after I cancelled. They actually aren't terrible, but not as advertised and the original price was way more expensive than needed. Like 30 would have been a okay ish price. 90is a no.
I was going to order one of these so called portable AC units but I said to myself, let me check with KrazyKen before ordering so I can get the low down on this product. I'm so glad that I did. You saved me $98 because that's how much they wanted me to pay with shipping. I probably subscribed to your channel a couple of months ago and so far you have saved me from making some huge mistakes. I have learned so much from your videos. I'm starting to check on fake reviews, on the websites, and the people on them. I'm also looking very carefully at their pitch language. Like you said; it tells you a lot about who you're dealing with. Thanks to you I have learned a lot and become a smarter shopper. I try to stick with well known companies too. I rather deal with places I know so I can get a fast refund, if I have to. Every time I see on an ad "he/she or they decided to quit their jobs and create their own cheaper product" it tells me it's a scam, or at least it tells me to be careful. I'm also helping others to see for themselves. Thank you. I'm looking forward to your next video. You are making a huge difference and giving us a weapon to fight back scammers. God bless you.
Thank You for your honesty. It saddens me to see how people take advantage of other people, who may be feeling very desperate to have some comfort on dangerously hot days. Shame on those who mislead for profit.
I discovered your channel because of this series after a related video from Technology Connections about the same units. Have enjoyed your other content and I am now subscribed. Love that you stuck with the series. Edit- corrected spelling error.
Thank you for your in depth review full of honesty..... I just saw an ad from this company and wanted to order thank goodness I decided to Google a review!!!- thank you I have now liked and subscribed
It’s funny how there’s only one dislike as of right now, and I bet you that’s Blaux being mad that you exposed their product, which makes me laugh. These type of episodes are great to watch, keep up the good work and continue to expose scam products!
Man Ken you're the best!👍👍👍 This is the first time I'm viewing your excellent review. Your honest review, no sugar coating no sweet talk. You just identify their scam tactics. And you don't change your reviews even when they gave you back your money and totally to keep the unit. It only makes a good humidifier in the winter time if you use dry air heat.. The others on TH-cam but just cryptic promoters not honest reviewers. They are like lap dogs. Thanks for your bluntness. My question is can they actually minimize and evaporator or a compressor to fit in one of these units or even a little bit bigger maybe twice or three times the size. Thanks my friend good luck and stay safe during this crazy pain time like we're in I don't even know what's truthful about this pandemic anyway. Be interesting to hear your review on that. We are all suffering. I had squatters for 4 years in my house the last two of these years squatters were saved by this eviction moratorium. Which gave the squatters two more years of free rent utilities and electricity. All coming from my social security check. I haven't made any money in this three family in the past 5 years. Basically running a charity here with the Brooklyn bums that occupy Brooklyn even in nice places like Bay Ridge there's so many losers look in the scam other people my sweet talking a sympathetic landlords and many other landlords that need hanging because they're ruthless. But being a housing and homeless activist for 45 years now I know how tenants could really be when I inherited my folks house 11 years ago when they passed away. It's been a nightmare I don't know if you do reviews like that but I just thought I'd throw that in. Because it's a mouth watering subject and gut-wrenching
I actually was hoping you'd compare it with your other swamp cooler. I imagine it's MUCH better than this one, but I would like to see the comparison still.
I have a swamp cooler in a similar style, though it has a much larger "filter" (5 inches thick), doesn't leak, and has a much larger reservoir. It was ~$15 and actually functioned.
Sounds like you could put a tray of ice cubes in front of a $15 fan and get the same result, including the dripping. It might even be a little cooler. Thanks for this follow-up! I was ready to buy this until I saw your first video, and I had been curious about it since.
It’s just going through about to order that unit and now I’m not going to anymore and I thank you very much for your honesty and I’m subscribed to your channel just because you are trustworthy thank you so very much shame on the company
Oh my god. Thank you so much! I was about to buy this thing after watching an TH-cam ad and thank god I watched this review before I did! It is pretty getting hot in Australia and I thought there should be some tech behind it but... it is just BS. Thanks a lot for this honest review!
I doubt youd even want a working one unless you live in a generally dry area. Any areas that can get kinda humid, like most places above southern australia, swamp coolers are more useless than not. Unless of course, you like for even more humidity and moisture to cling to you like sweat.
I was literally like 2 seconds done with this vid and I scrolled down and there is a literal ad for this exact same thing, but sold by a different company🤣🤣
My dear late granny used to put a big old swamp cooler out on the enclosed verandah in the middle of summer. It worked really well because the humidity was so low in outback Australia. That was 40 years ago and, as I mentioned, the thing actually worked. All this thing seems to do is prove that marketing people will always try and make any whiz bang new product they promote seem like the best thing since sliced bread, even if it doesn't really do that much.
Here in QLD, using one is more detrimental then just a regular fan as it can get quite humid on the hot days. I imagine in the drier areas of the bush like the outback, it would prolly work much better.
I love these scam/BS mysteries solved, I'd love to see more of this, and maybe if it's possible, at a faster upload rate, but no pressure, I love these videos
My boyfriend got this and when he saw it he was so disappointed and he went to return it. They charged him $10 for the initial shipping, it costs around $40 to ship it back and they wanted to refuse the refund bc they said it wasn't in good condition when it arrived but the box was literally falling apart when he initially received it. I hope noone falls for this anymore bc they really suck.
I had the same exact experience… want to return it… called customer service in the Philippines… couldn’t understand one word she said… after much repeating herself, I figured out they want me to jump through hoops to return it!!! Grrrrr!
I ordered one of these cooler things from a different company than the one you have here. It required ice cubes and cold water in the top of it and wanted you to freeze the filter when you used it. I tested it on very hot summer afternoons and nights and I felt like it was not worth the money I spent on it. Actually I wish I had not purchased the unit at all to be honest. I am glad that you are shedding light on the these products so people can see what they actually are and do not make the same mistake as I did and buy one thinking that would actually be like an real AC unit.
This was fantastic you spend so much time and explain all the details that are extremely true, because I just purchased it and sent it back I was thinking of purchasing again because mine did not come with a Reservoir or a battery obviously I’m on the wrong product thank you so much since I am disabled and I have a hard time going back to UPS and looking forward to something that doesn’t work I wish they would do a better job you did a great job thank you thank you thank you

I have that exact same product and it was sold for around 8 USD in rhe local online marketplace. For 8 USD, it is nice. But, heck, no one is going to buy it for 100 USD.
That fan is quite obviously a 120mm computer fan. It's not going to be able to do much.. it's also not expensive enough to justify the price of this thing..
Awesome series! You did a great job debunking and explaining how these things work, and if its worth it to even bother with them! I work in the commercial HVAC field, and these things are a joke. I saw these adds all the time, and I just laughed at the thought of them.
Krazy Ken, thank you for your dedication to research and your communication skills. Those "magic a/c" commercials still exist. I just saw one for Blast Ultra which claimed to be invented by some kid and is about to ruin the A/C industry. I noticed in the ad that the machine they pictured had the Blaux label. That's how I found this video. My questions are; do you know the product to which I am referring? and would you do (have you done) a review of it?
TH-cam has really gone down the tubes. Those ads between the videos are scams too.my friend bought the tool set that never came. Thanks for buying this and the solar chargers so we don’t have to.
What is that beautiful music in the beggining? I’m your fan for a quite a time now, and I heard this in other videos, but I’m still wondering, if I can get it somewehere, or if it is just your personal made music for your purposes.
I used to work for an HVAC contractor. Originally I was gonna say “swamp coolers technically are air conditioners” - you just have to temper your expectations for what the unit will do. A condenser and evaporator coil venting the return air outside of the cooled room will give you around a 20 degree (maybe 22-24) split (supply air temp minus return air). A swamp cooler (with a pump and fan) might cool the same room and give a cooling sensation from the fan, but the heat in the room going into the water is all ultimately staying in the room. A user sitting in that room will feel a difference if they sit in the breeze but the room won’t cool anywhere near what an AC with Freon will make. HOWEVER - that isn’t even a swamp cooler. It’s just a place to hold melting ice. You could get the same effect by putting some ice cubes on your table. Technically they would cool the room just as quickly, as heat transfers into the ice from the room air. You could even DOUBLE the effect by putting TWO ice cube trays on your desk to melt. The energy going into the ice to melt it is leaving the room when you take the ice out and stick it in the freezer to referees the ice. Sheesh. They advertise a swamp cooler under the broad term AC, then don’t even send you a swamp cooler, they send you a holder to melt ice onto your desk. It’s not even capable of containing the resulting water…
With a quick search on Amazon, I was able to find one branded "SmartDevil" that looks exactly the same for 50 Canadian dollars, which translate to roughly 38 US dollars.
www.amazon.co.uk/SmartDevil-Portable-Personal-Conditioner-Humidifier/dp/B08922PJBM/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=SmartDevil&qid=1602152887&s=kitchen&sr=1-11 I think I found the one your talking about
I saw this exact same add saying it was a kid in Arizona that invented it. They said everyone would be using one by 2024 since it cost pennies on the dollar. This was for "tundra breeze" brand. I though the same thing, this sounds like a swamp cooler but maybe theres some magic going on I'm not aware of. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting with the practical experiment.
A cheap effective way to do evaporative cooling is a to lay a wet pillowcase over the front of an old box fan. It really only works in dry climates, but it got me through a summer in Phoenix when I couldn’t afford to fix my house’s heat pump.
I know I shouldn't have even tried to get my hopes up for this being anything less than a giant scam but I was kind of hoping there would be something some little redeeming thing but no, no there wasn't.
I remember my grandmother putting a bowl of water in front of a small fan, and it worked ok. Just do that instead, if you really want, but don't buy this piece of crap under any circumstances.
I tried to order one of these last year....my Bank stopped payment and sent me a notification that it was all a scam. This year I saw it again.... thank you for verifying how I almost got ripped off. I will build my own swamp cooler.
That’s the same unit I got, and I thought the same thing you did, this is not what was shown in their ad. I got suckered! It’s the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Any volunteers? I would do it myself but someone needs to manage and supervise the test.

I bought a small 12v swamp cooler for my cabin. It helps cooling and moisturizing the bedroom on hot summer days. It’s not a huge difference but it helps a little. It cost me 12 bucks and yes it has a pump to circulate the water from the tank over the curtain.
Whats the name of the AC Cooler you got?

Thank you, I saw this advertised, it looked great, clicked the link, then when I looked into it further things just didn't seem right, then I found your reviews, thank goodness! Saved myself some dollars.
You know these adverts are scams its always" Top dentist, Top engineer" top this or that the best one top drone engineer leaves a top company because they charge too much for his indestructible drone, just like those magnetic wave wands and bracelets. but you watch one because you cant believe the crap the spew they'll never bloody end.
can't we report them to stop scamming people?
Yep every company especially the con artist ones have the best employees
The same corny "inspirational" tune is used in every one of these scam adverts - it's usually a dead give away.
Thank you for this honest review. We all appreciate your honest professionalism.
Thank you for reviewing this! I saw the advertisement, almost purchased. You saved me from wasting my money, thank you!!!!
I've just seen the ad running on Facebook. Sounded too good to be true. Glad I checked your video. Thank you. 😊
I’m glad you finally got one, I’m really surprised it’s much more similar than what I’ve gotten
$125 ac at walmart...
I can build this "cooler" for 5$ tops.
Thank God for TH-cam and folks like yourself! I don't buy anything without looking for reviews. Ty
the one dislike is blaux's "avid fan of your vlog"
Thank you for the review! It's hard to find a real review of this product.
I bought a product similar to this for $35. At that price, I thought it was fine. I take it outside and point it at myself when I sit down to read. The moist air actually helps with allergies a little.
Thank goodness people like this exist to point out the scams.
I know it's a small thing... but thanks for clearly saying "intents and purposes." >.>

@@ComputerClan With this year haven't they left yet?
@@Isolder74 I'm pretty sure I saw a "so long and thanks for all the fish" message in the spring.
I found it: the best thread on TH-cam.
Lots of swamp coolers don't need a pump, they just rely on hydrostatic equilibrium to pull water up. It's similar to how a tree works. Dryness at the top of a structure will cause water to travel upwards and reach all the upper branches.
Me: Watches video on how Blaux "AC"s don't work
TH-cam: Have an ad saying "World's #1 Portable AC 50% off ... Its 50% off until July"
lmao
Yes. I just got mine. Sending it back😠
This is exactly the sort of information I was looking for.
Thanks for confirming my suspicion that this thing is an over hyped dud.
Awesome review!
I fell for it, but I got my money back (well most but 10). Reminder: never buy something from a random site at midnight during a heatwave, in 2020, during wildfires.....
Sounds like good advice.
Good advice
@dobby and gollum studios I called them and got a refund. Give it a shot. They actually refunded me BEFORE I even shipped the unit back. So I'll give them points for that!
They still actually sent it to me, even after I cancelled. They actually aren't terrible, but not as advertised and the original price was way more expensive than needed. Like 30 would have been a okay ish price. 90is a no.
Noted.
i got an ad for it right before this video 💀

Thank you Ken. You have just saved me from being scammed. I am not tech savy. Thankfully l watched all your videos so l am now educated. Cheers
The ad you are talking about is running again. Actually saw it as a TH-cam ad yesterday.

I love hearing how people found my channel. Thanks for sticking around.
Can we complain to FTC, Ken?
Dislikes are hidden
You're right Ken here is also exposing the other similar scamy swamp coolers.. swamp coolers funny word thanks for making it up take care Ken
Because it's a mouth watering subject and gut-wrenching
thanks for the vid, I respect you for spending your money to help us not make stupid decisions. respect
Like they say it's a wise man who learns from his own mistakes. But it's a wiser man who learns from other people's mistakes
You know what's bs is the fact TH-cam keeps advertising this scam.
I actually was hoping you'd compare it with your other swamp cooler. I imagine it's MUCH better than this one, but I would like to see the comparison still.
I was just about to order this thing but searching for consumer reports I ran across this and all I can say you THANK YOU.
I'm curious what the advertising company they hired that put out all those scam ads was
Can we complain to FTC?
I have a swamp cooler in a similar style, though it has a much larger "filter" (5 inches thick), doesn't leak, and has a much larger reservoir. It was ~$15 and actually functioned.
What's the name
I knew there was bullschitt in the advertisement. My instinct brought me to do this search and found your video. Thank you for the proper exposure.
Poor Ken, he just wanted cold air and had to wait over 5 months just to get this.
Same, now 2 months later Still trying to get refund!!!!
So, you order it in spring and it brings autumn. Pretty effective 👍
I had the same exact experience… want to return it… called customer service in the Philippines… couldn’t understand one word she said… after much repeating herself, I figured out they want me to jump through hoops to return it!!! Grrrrr!
yes, they did screw up
I love you Computer Clan!
Funny thing: I just saw the commercial here on TH-cam. Came here to see if the claims were bs. Video confirmed it.
Bruh, you just purchased $100 PC fan in a fancy case.
A fan-cy case
No, its a chromebook without a display,
so how was this ever going to be better than putting a bowl of ice cubes in front of a portable fan?
I ordered one of these cooler things from a different company than the one you have here. It required ice cubes and cold water in the top of it and wanted you to freeze the filter when you used it. I tested it on very hot summer afternoons and nights and I felt like it was not worth the money I spent on it. Actually I wish I had not purchased the unit at all to be honest. I am glad that you are shedding light on the these products so people can see what they actually are and do not make the same mistake as I did and buy one thinking that would actually be like an real AC unit.
This was fantastic you spend so much time and explain all the details that are extremely true, because I just purchased it and sent it back I was thinking of purchasing again because mine did not come with a Reservoir or a battery obviously I’m on the wrong product thank you so much since I am disabled and I have a hard time going back to UPS and looking forward to something that doesn’t work I wish they would do a better job you did a great job thank you thank you thank you
Tech tip: put a dry ice into it
No more wetness 😂😂
Big brain move
been wondering what to do with all the dry ice i have
Dry ice is about to go on a major shortage/price hike because of the need for it, in relation to possible COVID-19 vaccine. It is expected the vaccine will need to be kept at -80C /112F from production to application. www.nytimes.com/2020/09/18/business/coronavirus-covid-vaccine-cold-frozen-logistics.html
Don't.
You will suffocate.
Jesus V a vaccine That has to be that cold isn't a very effective one
I just saw an add today! But they are claiming it was developed by some kid kicked out of college for not selling his technology
Here in brazil its called "CalorFrio" (Cold Heat, makes nearly no sense in english) but its almost the same crap
im 99% sure they wont even ship it
Was considering buy this but after watching this no way, thanks for the 411 Ken!
I have really enjoyed this journey with your channel. Looking forward to more. Thank you for all you do.

@@ComputerClan Thanks mate. Continue on your videos, I like them a lot, you’re doing great job.
Adam Peprník thank you : )
@@ComputerClan maybe you should use 'Burnt' by JinglePunks for when you review terrible products!!
With a quick search on Amazon, I was able to find one branded "SmartDevil" that looks exactly the same for 50 Canadian dollars, which translate to roughly 38 US dollars.
www.amazon.co.uk/SmartDevil-Portable-Personal-Conditioner-Humidifier/dp/B08922PJBM/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=SmartDevil&qid=1602152887&s=kitchen&sr=1-11
I think I found the one your talking about
Even then a regular $30 fan would be more effective lol.
I set really low expectations for this product... And I felt nothing different
Thanks, your honesty won't be forgotten.
I remember my grandmother putting a bowl of water in front of a small fan, and it worked ok. Just do that instead, if you really want, but don't buy this piece of crap under any circumstances.
