It's worthy of note that pretty much every major villain in One Piece has had some amount of backstory. Except for Crocodile. We know NOTHING about his past. Every time he's seen in anyone's flashback, it's always vague. There's definitely a reason this one character's backstory has remained shrouded in mystery for so long.

Im going to add something: from a one piece game with Oda's approval, Theres an interaction between Ivankov and Crocodile where Ivankov mentions crocodiles "secret" which only Iva knows.
Oda himself said that he chose some special people to give the signature pirate clothing such as the wooden leg (Zeff) and the hook (Crocodile) to special people. That means that Crocodile has way more to offer to the story if he is the selected pirate for the hook
I remember reading oda once said he didnt include luffys mother in the story because mother keep their child from adventures - would be kinda fitting, crocodile was the first to nearly put an end to luffys journey.
I always considered that Crocodile helped Luffy at Impel Down because he does have some sort of code of honor, and over the multiple engagements he's had with Luffy, Luffy begrudgingly earned his respect. He'd never openly admit it, but he would be willing to act on that. Especially if it potentially benefits him (considering that fighting on Luffy's behalf is his best chance to escape Impel Down/the Marines)

A few additional notes that might be already spread around, but this is the second time I hear of the theory after rereading one piece after a 7 year break. We don't know Crocodiles full name. He is know as Crocodile which is weird considering we know the full name of all other original warlords including the super secretive Don Flamingo. Which notably wants to side with him or see him dead during marin fort. Additionally in chapter 903 page 7 we see Crocodile...on a page showing Luffys alliey reacting to what happened following hsi exploits. Right after a page talking about how he picked a fight with big mom the first named character we see is crocodile. Additional his birthday September 5th lines up nicely with Luffys May 5th and Dragons October 5th. There might be word play in those numbers.
Same, same. When I watched this video a year ago, it became my all-time favorite bonkers anime fan theory. It feels like ASoIaF fans figuring out that Jon Snow is a Targaryen twenty years before the TV series adaption finally confirmed it.
I always thought that Crocodile's secret past is that he used to be a slave. The revolutionary army has probably had a lot of contact with slaves/former slaves so it wouldn't be too surprising if Iva knew about it and maybe even was involved in helping him out in the past. This would also explain why Crocodile wasn't really hostile to Luffy after meeting him again and even helped him during Marineford. After all, Luffy had punched a Celestial Dragon since the last time they saw each other in Alabasta. And Crocodile saving Ace might really be because he hated the thought of the Marines and the World Government achieving their goal. This theory of Crocodile being Luffy's mom is also really interesting though. I had heard of it before but thought it more of a joke theory before watching this video. Now it sounds a lot more plausible. I'm really looking forward the revelation of Crocodile's past at some point in the furture
It makes more sense that Croc is from Ivans kingdom, except he isn't flamboyant. He accepts others as they are, Bon Clay, but he doesn't want the stigma from his home country. Ivan probably understood that not everyone can be free in the same sense, helped Croc leave the island and helped make him a new identity, but also knows the leverage he now has over Croc. Croc also knows Shanks and Dragon, and that he's completely screwed if either finds out that he almost killed Luffy. This also explains why he's strictly described as male and not ironically being labeled as female because of how slim, well dressed, and mild mannered he behaves to try to rebel back in his home country
Sorry to ping you with a notification on a comment from almost a year ago but I'm just catching up on this video because everyone is going wild about a woman seen in the live-action One Piece being Crocodile. What I was gonna say is why would Crocodile being a former slave be something that Ivankov would blackmail him about? It's not as if him being revealed to be a former slave would change his status in any way -- if anything it would make him look more badass for rising up and becoming as powerful as he did. It has to be something he reeeeeaaally doesn't want anyone to know, and a gender swap might just be the thing!
Another possibility, Crocodile is related to or knew Luffys mom, and it wasn't until Marineford when all the pieces fell into place leading to Crocodile having a change of heart.
I'd be on board with that too tbh. Anything that explains Crocodile in Marineford, especially why his reaction to the Dragon reveal was cut out in the manga.
Compromise: Crocodile isn't Luffy's mom, but Luffy's Uncle. Luffy's actual mom was Croco-girl, Croco-boy's sister who was from a Celestial Dragon family (like Doflamingo) that was disgraced after having a baby with commoner Monkey D. Dragon, hence her disgrace and hence Dragon's ENTIRE WAR AGAINST THE WORLD GOVERNMENT
Honestly, take the cigar out of his mouth and you can see he has similar facial features like Luffy, and the eyes are similar as well. I'd bet he's either related to Luffy's mom or related to Dragon
Interesting theory and good points. Another possibility is that Sir Crocodile is Luffy's mother's brother. Who might have been her sister long ago. Which would keep the connection to Ivankov but it would make him the uncle of Luffy, not his mother.
Crocodile is really interested in Luffy in the newspaper after these events. He reads about him after marineford when Luffy went with jinbe and Rayleigh, and then talks about going to the new world. Crocodile is also a very out of place reaction to Luffy’s 5 emperor news, the others are yonkos and strawhats close friends they’ve made throughout journey. Maybe oda just picked crocodile because he is a series favorite and we’ll never complain about seeing more crocodile, but it makes theories like this more fun.

you know ... until Ohara brought up the uncharacteristically actions of crocodile in the war i thought nothing of it... but Impel down is so close to the war that it's likely that Oda either had this as cannon and was sowing hints OR he liked the theory and with no other thing in mind for Luffys mother went with it. You can't really scoff off Crocodile going up against Akainu and saying "you have to protect it properly, what you want to protect" AS he is whisking Luffy away in a sandstorm... Remember that prior to breaking him out of prison - Luffy was just a punk who thwarted their plans in alabasta. and I don't think with how ruthless Crocodile is that one jailbreak would inspire that kind of devotion from him.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up the haki argument. There's also the theory going around that Croc never used haki despite being a veteran Grand Line pirate is because he stopped using it after becoming a man to prevent Ivankov's ability from wearing off. This could of course be attributed to the possibility of haki not yet existing when Oda wrote Alabasta, but then why did they specifically bring up that he was rumoured to not even know what it was in the more recent chapters? Really makes you think
Haki is also a factor of willpower. Maybe crocodile had a tiny amount of thin haki pre marineford, but after the luffy being dragons son was revealed he awakened his haki to be strong enough to clash with mihawk and akainu even if briefly. His resolve strengthened and awakened his haki just like how the exact opposite happened to gecko moria when his resovle weakened and he lost all his haki.
Pretty sure Haki existed at this point though wasn't named. A prime example would be Shanks when he loses his arm using Haki to save Luffy by frightening the creature off with just a look.
Ch. 1063 spoilers Late af but I also wanted to add that Law demonstrated that haki can counter devil fruit effects. What I find INCREDIBLY interesting is that the devil fruit power he countered changed his and his crew's genders. This is either Oda foreskinning or just a one-off goof.

The thing is that dragon being luffy father was forshadowed in a filler in which all the straw hats were animals and the animal that oda chose for luffy was a dragon but there is an another filler in which luffy was wearing the same clothes as crocodile and was an organization leader like crocodile so is it another forshadowing

You know, another point towards this is that we keep checking back in on Crocodile from time to time. Which is weird, because while we do tend to check back in on important players in the story and people who have bonded with the crew (Vivi, Shanks, Makino/villagers, Baratie crew, etc) villains aren't really part of that, especially past villains. It's almost as though Crocodile still has a part to play in the future of the story, and it very well may be that this reveal is part of it. Maybe.
okay nah this is kinda false imo. we do see a lot of villains returning actually. Like lucci, kaku and wapol in the reverie, baroque works at impel down, arlong got important again too at fishman island, buggy shows up a lot, we saw moria again with blackbeard, even enel was reoccuring in that canon cover story where he went to space. maybe i'm even forgetting some but i think reoccuring vilains or old vilains getting back into the story is not that unusual in one piece. i'm almost sure sometime in the future we will see enel back in the actual story again too
@@koray3774 Yes, but only those important to the future or current part of the story show up repeatedly like this. Lucci and such have a part to play in the current arcs, Baroque Works agents had a part to play in Impel Down, Buggy has parts to play when he turns up and in the future (for sure), Enel had a cover story which isn't what I'm talking about. That's not main story. Crocodile has been touched on once or twice since his part ended in the War. That denotes that he likely has a part to still play in the story. He's one of the only villains that we get to see doing whatever he's doing that isn't integral or part of the current plotline.
This Croco-mom theory has made me reconsider the true purpose of Cross Guild (aka the new organization/alliance headed by Buggy, Mihawk, and Crocodile): assuming that Crocodile (as the brains of the trio) had a major influence on the organization’s direction, I now think that Cross Guild’s ultimate goal (from post character development Crocodile’s POV) is to create a buffer/shield between Luffy and the World Government (by distracting the Marines with large swathes of bounty hunters/pirates motivated by Buggy’s bounties, thus giving Luffy breathing room).
@CRINGY Actually, all we saw was the back of Crocodile's head and fur collar. Body and face weren't shown, so he very well could have been she at that point. The angle was very carefully constructed to hid Crocodile's face/body, when - if there was nothing to hide - it didn't NEED to be. In fact, the way it's framed in the shot, it's more likely to prove a change in the character. Compare it to the other shots of Roger's death reactions, and Crocodile's is the only one hiding the face from view. Croco-mom lives on!
6:12 I think the reason that Ivankov calls Crocodile "Crocoboy" is because they, at some point, considered him a friend, like how they call Luffy "straw hat boy." Ivan holding crocodiles secret past over him does make a lot of sense though, considering van's power, and the fact that Luffy also knows one of his weaknesses. Crocodile wouldn't be so worried about information that Luffy of all people could figure out on his own.
I'll also add. The Scar on luffy eye, match the same spot where Dragon and Garp have their Tattoo and Scar, respectively, but Crocodile's goes across the face. And it can be it's a fusion of the parents markings. Also how Crocodiles can actually cannibals their children but are also overprotective of them as wells.
What is also extremely funny is the fact that Luffy was able to defeat Crocodile only with his blood back then, which if he is his mother is also his own blood…
Important points on why Crocodile is Luffy's mother 1: Villains on One Piece ALWAYS get some backstory exposition during Luffy's fights with them. Hell, even some side characters (Senor Pink) get deep backstories. Crocodile has been given almost none. 2: The physical similarities between Crocodile and Luffy are about as similar as the same similarities between Luffy and Dragon. 3: Crocodile's end goal IS the same as Dragon's, but corrupted. 4: The raw amount of Masculinity that Crocodile drips, is very much over compensating for something. It's certainly not power, and I doubt it's his Ego. That only leaves, his past. Having known several FtM transmen, this is a VERY common practice.
Don Krieg, Wapol, Bellamy, Monet, Megellan & Caesar were all major villains who didn’t get a backstory so I think that argument holds weight. Also, off first glance there are 0 similarities in Crocodile and Luffy appearances alone

Ok, you actually convinced me. I always was fan of Croc was a woman theory and now also think he is Luffy's mom. His actions in Marineford speak volumes. There is really no reason someone like Croc would go out of his way and risk his life for someone who ruined his life. Even if he is repaying some sort of debt attacking Akainu is just going overboard.
you hit the nail on its head and if this was any other author than Oda, then maybe it would be a reach, but really, this is ODA we are talking about.... he's done WAY more careful things, the attention to detail he has for his story is beyond our comprehension. We all shouldnt underestimate him like this, actions speak louder than words and that's what every charachter in the story is motivated by almost and every haevy and emotional scene, is one of action and not one of words. In other words: Oda LOVES to make the decisions his charachters make matter, both big and large, on a level of attention that is so impressive that both the big and small actions often mirror one another. Hence, so many people can make hours long videos about these things in One Piece. Explaining why Oda would write an inconsistent charachter is a harder thing to explain than Crocodile being Luffys mother, simply put.

I just found out the fact that "A Crocodile's gender is determined by temperature during incubation", I mean, one cannot distinguish between a male and female crocodile if not observed closely. Is that another hint to why the name is Crocodile??😭🔥 I'm not fully convinced bout' Croc being Luffy's mom, but I think it's safe to say that Croc's gender is questionable.
If Crocodile knew Ivankov he likely also knew Dragon, and if he had any loyalty to Dragon back in the day it's pretty reasonable that he would help Luffy of his own free will. It's a lot more believable that his actions in saving Luffy are actually implying that he had connections to the Revolutionary Army.
I think an artistic reason I don’t see brought up when talking about this theory is the known Monkey D. Family all having a scar/marking near their left eye. Which, just so happens crocodile does as well. I know, not very compelling evidence but it is a similarity shared with them even if Crocodile being Luffy’s mom doesn’t take make him apart of the Monkey family.

This has likely been pointed out before... buuut, the first three people to rescue (whether or not intended) Luffy from Smoker's clutches, were (in order); Monkey D Dragon, Luffy's father, then Ace, Luffy's Brother, and lastly, when Luffy has nowhere to run, Sir Crocodile drops the floor out from beneath them. After three names with massive bounties get in the way of smoker's capture of Luffy, it's then Luffy's actions of ordering Zoro to save Smoker that finally halts Smoker's pursuit... up until the paramount war, where Boa Hancock (who dreams of marrying Luffy) is next to step into Smoker's path. Additional notes & musings* - when Sir Crocodile is first talked about, it's regarding the Secret of who is Mr.0, Sir Crocodile's secret, their identity, which is then later discovered that Sir Crocodile still has a secret, one known by the symbol of Identity, Ivankov, they who challenge the worlds perception of identity. - I find it amusing that Crocodile likes to pair up, or "ship" people based on their personalities, making up for what the other lacks, like Mr.4 Miss Merrychristmas. Or, based on things they have in common, like Mr.1 and Miss Double-finger, both physically sharp. Even amusing himself with pairing up Princess Vivi with Mr.9, who is a caricature of a king. Seems a little sassy and cute to me. - probably nothing to it, but first depiction of Crocodile in the anime has a vividly pink backdrop, pink oft' a colour associated as feminine. I love the amount of possible threads in this theory, albeit just mere speculation, but I was surprised how quickly it won me over. Two fathers and one son, doesn't that sound lovely?
I've noted that Croc actions on Marineford were out of character but I never realized they were so out of character and so directly related to saving Luffy... Now I believe this theory
You could argue Croc was only defending Luffy and Ace because he had a greater disdain for the Navy than he does for pirates. And it's not uncommon for the people that Luffy defeats to side with him against a greater threat. Even some of Luffy's own crew were once his enemies. (Robin & Franky) It has been stated numerous times that Luffy has an ability that's sometimes greater than pure strength or technique. It's his ability to get people to form alliances and friendships with him. Even though I'm arguing against this theory. I want so badly for it to be true. It would explode heads.
Honestly, Crocodile being Luffy's mom could be combined with the theory that his mom is a celestial dragon. Instead of her attempted murder being ignited by her getting pregnant with the child of a commoner, she thought that they as celestial dragons weren't any different from normal people and such, maybe even freeing some slaves on the sly. Stuff like that. Eventually another celestial dragon sent someone to kill her, resulting in the scar across her face. Maybe she falls down a cliff or something, doesn't really matter how it happens, but somehow Dragon finds her and him and Ivankov and crew nurse her back to health. They eventually fall in love while she hides with the revolutionary army in their early days, and eventually she learns Ivankov can change people's gender and decides to have Ivankov make her a man. But before Ivankov can, she learns that she is pregnant, and so can't change until the baby is born. Upon Luffy being born, she and Dragon vow to do everything in their power to make the world a place where their son can grow up happy or some crap. She transforms, and goes off to find the ancient weapon Pluton, so the Revolutionaries can have the firepower needed to overthrow the celestial dragons, and splits from the group. Dragon sends Luffy away so he can focus on building up the Revolutionary army. And boom. A shitty theory that combines the two with a barely rational hypothetical scenario.

In hindsight and with the live action being on Netflix....There was a female Crocodile in the crowd at Roger's execution right at the first scene. So they hinted on that theory even in live action
You could go even further and theories that croco is Gol. D. Roger sister, changing his/her name and gender after navy captured Roger to avoid being hunted by the government as other relatives of Roger. This would merge Croco mom theory with Gol. D Roger sister mom theory. That also could be the secret past Ivanko used to blackmail him, not being a girl but being the sister of Gol. D. Roger. Also, why would he stop ace execution just because he is luffy mother? But it would make sense if he was actually aces aunt.
I still think Crocodile's secret past is that he shortly become an Okama, just like Sanji when he got stuck in Ivankov's island. That would be a huge disgrace to him if leaked out. But your theory is very convincing especially the marineford part 🙂

I agree. He's being hypermasculine now, because - like Sanji - he's embarrassed that he dressed up like a woman for a while. As for his connection to Dragon... They could be sworn brothers, much like Luffy, Ace and Sabo. He was angry and protective when he realized that he'd previously almost killed his brother's son.
it might just be that crocodile had a different type of past with the revolutionary army, he might have been in the revolutionary army, this can also be why he knows Ivancov, the reason why he was in a bad mood can also be that he was ashamed that he tried to kill the son of a man he respects and holds to high regard, you can also say that the reason why he tried taking over a country was because arabasta had affiliation with the world government, and maybe thats why he split off of the revolutionary army, because they were against the idea, i just dont see how crocodile can be luffy's mom, crocodile could have been a women with affiliation with the revolutionary army and changed or they could have been a kid and iva got them to grow up, but there isnt any evidance that they are luffy's mom that also doesnt support my theory
It can also just be, that while crocodile was in the revolutionary army (as a woman) fell in love with Dragon, while Dragon didnt loved her and loved someone else, maybe that was the reason to leave the RA and maybe she/he was thinking becoming a Man, would Help to get away with those feelings. And because of that he went to alabasta to get his hands on a ancient weapon first and create a alternative to the RA. When he found out that Luffy is dragons son, he just realised that he still has the same feelings and decided to protect the son of Dragon. I dont get how anyone could think, he is the Mother of Luffy, while there are so many other possibilities, why he left the RA, why he was in Momoiro Island, why he decided to protect Luffy etc. its all just speculation.
Yeah this was my thought exactly. Croc was almost certainly related to the revolutionary army somehow and possibly was a woman who Ivankov did a gender change hormone thing to, but going from that to saying he’s Luffy’s mother is a stretch. At the very least we need a lot more evidence to show he wasn’t just a former dragon subordinate and has some blood relation to luffy

I'm not even that big of a One Piece fan, but for whatever reason I can't help but find this theory endlessly entertaining. It's like the "Jar Jar was the TRUE sith lord" star wars theory. It's so ridiculous yet plausible, I love it.
I was really expecting some mind blowing evidences that would make me doubt for real and you just came up with Crocoboy's strange behavior at Marineford. Sure, that's mystery and we are yet to know why Crocodile was trying so hard to help Luffy here (as well as his past) but bringing that up as the evidence that HE IS HIS MOM is just hilarious. Although I have to admit that there are strong hints that he was indeed a woman. Hope we'll know eventually what's up with this character.
Yea it's definitely just a "joke" that he once was a woman but I don't think it especially has an impact on the story. I've always been hoping for Vegapunk to be Luffy's mom. To make it funny that someone super smart is his mom, and that he only inherited that aspect for fighting.

there is another funny thing about this: everything in One Piece repeats somehow as Oda claimed, so if you think about it on the first half of the Grandline Nico Robin worked with luffy's mom (according to the theory), while on the second half she works together with luffy's dad aka the revolutionairy army :)
Crocodiles actions at marineford are explained by hawk eye's words, regarding luffy making fast allies. We see crocodile helping him out, because he was once luffys enemy, nearly killing him, so hawk eye's words have more of an impact for us readers. Besides he got locked up, so preventing the government from killing luffy is his way of payback. Well that's my opinion at least

Usually luffy says or does something that inspires people to be his friends or ally but there’s still no solid proof of Crocodile being inspired by Luffy just that he is in a bad mood and switching sides.
I also believe that if it were like the cases you are stating, Crocodile would have said some anime-like thing like "Now I have paid you back..." or something of that sort, of course it's all just theorizing, but based on the dialogue and what was happening I am more inclined to go with Crocodile having some sort of special bond with Luffy, maybe as the mother or perhaps as favor directly to Dragon.
I remember this dialogue said by Crocodile to Luffy while they were fighting . "There is no shortage of people like you in the sea". I think he was referring to himself. His old days.
Quite posible, Crocodile could easily be a case of a corrupted dreamer. He could have been a lot like Luffy, cheerful and optimistic, possibly with building a perfect kingdom but after some horrible accident that gave his scare and took his hand he had a complete shift of character. He still has his goal of becoming king as according to Mrs. Golden Weeks power to make dreams real(ish) (Mr.1 wanted to be a super hero). He could have gone from a "I will make a kingdom where my friend will be happy" to a "I will make the perfect kingdom by any means necessary"

That line is incredibly out-of-character for Crocodile, who usually doesn't believe in protecting others. And all he had been doing durring the war is protecting luffy (besides picking a fight with whitebeard). Why is he protecting luffy? "You gotta protect the one you want to protect." Even if he was telling jinbei to do it, his own actions show he has been doing that, too.

the first thing crocodile says when he meets luffy face-to-face is an off-hand comment about vivi and her father reuniting. he says something along the lines of "is that how a long-lost parent is supposed to greet their child?" even if crocodile didn't know about luffy at the time, that is a HINT and you can't convince me otherwise
I love the crocodile being Luffy's mom theory, but I feel crocodile's actions after Luffy's lineage being revealed was due to his past and connection/respect for Dragon. I would be all for the twist though.
Crocodile being a woman is a very complelling argument but crocodile saving luffy might just be because of his past with dragon, as in respect for the man. Maybe crocodile used to work withdragon sometime in past. It just makes it weird that crocodile is luffy's mom, But a comrade to dragon and saving his comrades son makes more sense.

The evidence for him being the mother is pretty reaching imo. Not saying it can't be true, but it's perfectly reasonable that he would hate the government and really does want to play a part in seeing them humiliated in a globally covered event. The fact that it's this kid that actually defeated him would easily play into a begrudging respect and still feed into his narcissism that Luffy winning is his victory as well.
The thing that makes this somewhat convincing is that ODa stated that 1: we've already seen luffy's mom, and 2: she's not very pretty, shes more on the manly side. That together with knowing Crocodile has a secret past with Ivankov make s this a 50/50 for me. Though Oda could've done this all intentionally just to mess with us, he does have a pretty big braid after all

Croc taking on Akainu was always wild to me. Like Croc was a Warlord so he haddddd to know of Akainu and his powers right? What happens to sand when its super heated? It turns into glass if you didnt know..... so Crocs power can be 100% countered by Akainu just existing, and Croc HAS to know this..... and yet he throws himself into the fight with Akainu anyways just to save Luffy's life. Not to mention that Croc should be Ecstatic at marine ford since they captured a commander of whitebeards and lured whitebeard AND luffy to the most heavily defended spot on the planet at that time. Croc having a grudge against both whitebeard and luffy should be overjoyed by the fact that he was about to see the execution of one of whitebeards men and had the opportunity to take revenge on not only whitebeard but luffy too in one fell swoop. But as soon as Croc finds out Luffy is Dragons son his mood immediately sours as he/she realizes he/she has tried to murder his/her own son AND his/her sons life is again in danger. Knowing this and knowing the reason Luffy is there is to save Ace forces Croc to put literally everything on the line to save both whitebeards men and Luffy. Which would explain why he tells Mihawk that he is in a bad mood. Since now the situation has changed from getting revenge on those that have "wronged" him to suddenly his only child is in Mortal Danger. That would honestly explain a ton about those moments at marine ford, why croc suddenly turned to luffy's side, why he/she would fight against some of the strongest characters in the verse for no personal gain, why he/she would stand side by side with his sworn enemies (whitebeard pirates) to protect luffy. None of those things mattered anymore to Croc, nothing in the world mattered at that moment but making sure his/her son would live through the day. And if this is true that is fucking insane Oda you mastermind
there's also the fact that Crocodile did in fact do everything he could to get Luffy off of the battlefield as soon as possible, even going so far as to throw him to some unknown pirates just because it was probably safer there. I heard someone say Crocodile saved Luffy because he wanted to kill Luffy himself, but then why would he take the chance of handing away that privilege to an unknown (to him) pirate group? He was probably thinking that Luffy had a better chance off of the battlefield than on it, otherwise he would have just killed Luffy right then and there.
marineford for me is the biggest hint. it makes not sense for him to be THAT out of character. ESPECIALLY saving luffy in the end. come on, he was the reason that crocos WHOLE plan fell apart in alabasta, and got him into impel down
The Marineford part sounds legit, but there could be another reason. Like you said, it's possible that because of Crocodile's connection to Ivankov, he may also have a connection to Dragon. We've seen that Crocodile can hold a grudge. But what about gratitude? What if Dragon did something so great that Crocodile would feel indebted enough to save Luffy? Dragon has quite a bit of power in the One Piece universe, so it's not unrealistic either. It sounds a lot more unlikely, but there's still the possibility.
I have to agree with this, although its fun to think about crocodile being luffys mum, There is still not enough clear evidence to fully support this theory.....yet
What if Crocodile isn't luffy's mother but instead aunt or uncle? I believe this to be so because many of the points would work here for why he was protecting fluffy and why he went out of his way to do so, but also because Croco-Boy has quite the resemblance with dragon, at least in my eyes.

We saw Doctor Q fruit transformed Law in a woman. He was able to revert it by using Haki. So Crocodile was a woman and transformed into a man with the power of a devil fruit. As Crocodile refuses to be a woman again he decided to never use haki. For that reason even being a super strong carácter and a warlord we havent seen him use haki
That's not how that works. Law states that you can reject a power if you have strong enough haki. That doesn't mean they have to reject it. And that'd also mean they have to have strong enough haki, otherwise any person on Dressarosa that had haki could have just undid Sugar's toy transformation. Kaido and BM are both advanced CoC users and Law also has really strong armament considering he was able to damage them as well as shred up the person that Sanji broke his leg on (Vergo)

In marineford, crocodile was dead set on going after whiteboard, throwing his crewwmates around like ragdolls. But after the announcement of dragon being luffys father, his actions does a 180. He had no reason to save a former whitebeard pirate. And sengoku isn't a fleet admiral for nothing. It's given to those who not only has the strongest might but are also good strategists. For Sengoku to believe that Crocodile would have been a good addition against whitebeard and even following along that prediction when he attempted to fight whitebeard means that something put a wrench on that plan.
I think this theory might've been proven true in the recent live action One Piece on Netflix. I believe we see Crocodile in the very first episode in during the prologue. About 2:30~ in the episode right before we see Shanks the woman they focus looks oddly familiar but I couldn't place it till I realized, "wait, is that Croc? It can't be, could it?" Just a theory but you and others may be right.
In an interview with the showrunners, one of them accidentally revealed that Crocodile had indeed made a cameo in that scene, and the other guy gave him a shocked look like "Dude! Spoilers!" So that's basically an official confirmation that Oda told them, like when Game of Thrones revealed the R+L=J theory was true way ahead of the books.
Honestly speaking, It makes sense even more as Luffy's bounty grew he was smiling with joy on his face. It is very possible that being a mother led her to be too weak and she lost something big to whitebeard...maybe a territory or status? He is way too smart to be a common rabble of a pirate. His schemes are very calculated. Based on his discussion with Sengoku I'd even have a suspicion he's somewhat of a noble character in new world who got owned and his kingdom ripped away from him and to win it back he was looking for a ancient weapon to oppose white-beard because he says it clearly "What I am looking for is Millitary power" he was ready to overthrow Alabasta kingdom for that to establish his roots and take up position of King. Its also possible he's aiming to be a yonkou silently which again pits him against Whitebeard.

This is the only explanation of this theory that makes sense, however, I still do not think Crocodile is Luffy's mom. I think maybe he has some relation to the Revolutionaries or Dragon himself, maybe he was rescued by him or was a Revolutionary at some point.

Maybe this is reaching, but given all the information discussed in this video, I find it interesting that Crocodile was one of the people shown reacting to Luffy's bounty increasing to one billion, and he was smiling. Could just be due to the respect he gained for Luffy during Marineford, but still.
It's kind of interesting when world news/bounties are shown, Crocodile often shows up in a panel. Feels like Oda wants to make sure we don't forget him for future storylines.

It is actually very shocking to see Crocodile went out his way to protect Luffy and stopped Ace’s execution. His original goal of killing Whitebeard changed to protecting Luffy is insanely differ. You don’t see Jinbei went toe to toe against Mihawk or shoulder throw the entire lake of Marineford against Akainu.
Transitioning to men could be to protect Luffy too, since they we already know the government was killing all the ones related to Gold D Roger and they could come after them (Croco-mom and Luffy) because they are related to Dragon, the 2nd Most Wanted Men in the world.
This is actually a really good point. It's not like aces mom was close to Ivan, so she couldn't just have the kid on time and get a gender swap, but croco momma could an dthat protected luffy.
There's a rule in storytelling that you don't suddenly introduce a new random character at pivotal moments and especially near the end of the story. So of all the characters to run into in Impel Down, Crocodile's reappearance and essential actions in Marineford saga solidifies his importance to the overall plot. If Oda is going to reveal who Luffy's mom is, it's going to have to be an important plot point to the story. I can't imagine how revealing Luffy's mom would be essential to the plot (or in this specific theory, Crocodile and Luffy meeting again)...unless it has to do with the rare bloodline point or he's a Tenryuubito (which would make the destruction of that system and the world government more symbolic)...especially because this piece of info is not something Crocodile (or Dragon) seems like the type to just reveal unless it was essential to do so... but that's why Oda is the master storyteller and not me. At the same time, it wouldn't be so farfetched to deviate slightly from the theory and pin Crocodile as formerly a woman who was close to Luffy's mom (eg biologically related to her or Dragon, or sworn sisters like Ace, Luffy, and Sabo). And yet there's the teaser Oda dropped for us that we've already seen Luffy's mom. Could this be the parallel theory to "Madara is Obito" from Kishimoto's Naruto? Only time will tell XD

This is super random, but your rule reminds me a super popular show that you all know, Avatar the Last Airbender, that had an extremely shit ending, but everyone praises how amazing it is, some even saying its one of the best shows of the last decade. Here's why(and this is before I knew about your storytelling rule) -- At the very end of the show, Aang wasn't prepared to face the fire lord. He meets a RANDOM turtle out of nowhere that helps him, and then randomly get his back shocked back into being able to go Avatar. Me, having read many stories, expected a better solution to all of his unpreparedness than that deus ex machina shit. I've been saying this for years and will argue it to no end. Avatar was not that great of a written story. The world-building was cool, but it was not a good story, not just the ending. I will get alot of hate for this because there are alot of fanboys out there, but you will never convince me all that nonsense was foreshadowed in any way.
To be fair, Dragon could equally be the Mom. Crocodile still wouldn’t want to admit that he is the father. Either way, we all cannot know for sure. Oda might just change his mind to surprise us all when it comes time to drop the parental bomb.
I always figured the secret was that Crocodile tried to kill Whitebeard, lost, got captured, and gnawed his hand off to escape like a dog. That would explain why he glorifies his wound with that ostentatious hook. He’s embarrassed about that time he lost so badly all he could do was run and wearing that (awesome) hook makes him feel better about it.
I think he had a sea stone cuff on his right hand and the only way he could get it off was to change it to the stature of a ladies hand so he could get out of sea stone cuffs which is why he’s so obsessed with man hood

I hadn't realized it until now but it is just coincidence that Luffy and Crocodile have similar face scars? They are in the same area of the face with the only difference being Crocodile's scar going all the way across his face. Even the stitch pattern is the same. There was an old theory some years ago that Croc's scar had to do with his/or HER past being that they got their face disfigured somehow either in a fight or some event before current OP time and deciding to give up their womanhood and go full tough guy mode because they already have the resources for it (being that their entire bloodline is already all big names, it wouldn't be too out of reach for his mom to be one of the first villains he fight himself and recurring in the story showing up several times even after they were already beaten as a villain)

I found a small but interesting detail: According to the databook Blue Deep: Characters World Crocodile's zodiac sign is Virgo. This is the only sign represented by a woman. It belongs to the Earth element which, like Water, is associated with femininity. The signs are also grouped according to their modality: fixed, cardinal and mutable or double. Virgo belongs to the mutable and these, according to astrology, contain two basic opposite traits in the same personality. It could be a clue that Crocodile has been both man and woman. What a great coincidence **coughs** that Oda picked out Virgo of all the zodiac signs. Also, in the third volume of One Piece's 20th anniversary magazine there is a section dedicated to the great mysteries of One Piece and one of them is Croco's secret that Ivankov knows. I think that could also be a clue that this mystery may be important at some point.

I remember Oda saying in a Q and A that Luffy's mom has already been shown and was connected to the revolutionary army not only that but also that she isn't beautiful because she would be a manly type of person (its been a while since I heard about that so maybe I'm wrong but it feel like it connects so well with the evidence)

I think he sent him on the island of women because it's the last place they'd look Straw Hat Luffy in, I think. Luffy wasn't shown to be attracted to anyone (outside of gags to Nami's flash) so I guess he trusted him enough to live in the island of women, it might also imply that he wants the island of women to realize that not all men are all that bad (stretching things a bit here at this point)

It's Sanji who had a rare blood-type back in Fishman Island, not Luffy. Hybrid Fishmen are also easily noticeable. Dellinger was only ¼ Fishman and yet we could still notice it.
Also, Crocodile has the blood-type O while Dragon has the blood-type B and parents with blood-types of O and B will either make a child with a blood-type B (like Luffy) or blood-type O. Oda knows this since he applied it with Otohime and Neptune's children where Otohime is O and Neptune A which gave Fukaboshi, Manboshi and Ryuboshi a blood-type O while it gave Shirahoshi the blood-type A (like her father which may explain why she is a giant like him).
It's been a year, coming back to this video I noticed one thing, Luffy in the No Honor Time Omake literally is dressed up as crocodile, and the parallel between crocodile having sand power and dragon (supposedly) having wind power just reminds me of every single introduction Dragon has ever made in the show, both when he helped Sabo and when he helped Luffy, the clip with Crocodile showing up in marineford to help Luffy and then also sending Jimbei and Luffy away with his sand power reminds me of that. Another old part of this theory I remember seeing is with Crocodile's past (and the scar mark on his face, supposedly inflicted during some event before the current time in one piece now) and it played a role in him somehow being a supposed female character that had a wound on her face changing her life forever

I think Crocodile's actions at Marineford could also just be because he found out Luffy is Dragon's son. He might owe Dragon in some way and therefore protect Luffy. Or maybe he is scared of Dragon and wants to be on good terms with him. The presence of some sort of connection between Crocodile and Dragon is very plausible, but is it really because they had a kid together? I am not convinced.

This explains why Crocodile attacked Whitebeard at Marineford, but quickly switched sides and saved Ace from execution the first time around just after Sengoku announced Luffy was Dragon's son. Crocodile likely had no idea other than that Dragon had a son somewhere out there, and just found out that son was Luffy during the war. That's why Crocodile didn't give a reason as to why he (she?) was helping them save Ace, just that he says "Well, for now, we can't let the Navy win" after they start attacking Luffy.

It's worthy of note that pretty much every major villain in One Piece has had some amount of backstory. Except for Crocodile. We know NOTHING about his past. Every time he's seen in anyone's flashback, it's always vague. There's definitely a reason this one character's backstory has remained shrouded in mystery for so long.

I always considered that Crocodile helped Luffy at Impel Down because he does have some sort of code of honor, and over the multiple engagements he's had with Luffy, Luffy begrudgingly earned his respect. He'd never openly admit it, but he would be willing to act on that. Especially if it potentially benefits him (considering that fighting on Luffy's behalf is his best chance to escape Impel Down/the Marines)

A few additional notes that might be already spread around, but this is the second time I hear of the theory after rereading one piece after a 7 year break. We don't know Crocodiles full name. He is know as Crocodile which is weird considering we know the full name of all other original warlords including the super secretive Don Flamingo. Which notably wants to side with him or see him dead during marin fort. Additionally in chapter 903 page 7 we see Crocodile...on a page showing Luffys alliey reacting to what happened following hsi exploits. Right after a page talking about how he picked a fight with big mom the first named character we see is crocodile. Additional his birthday September 5th lines up nicely with Luffys May 5th and Dragons October 5th. There might be word play in those numbers.

I always thought that Crocodile's secret past is that he used to be a slave. The revolutionary army has probably had a lot of contact with slaves/former slaves so it wouldn't be too surprising if Iva knew about it and maybe even was involved in helping him out in the past. This would also explain why Crocodile wasn't really hostile to Luffy after meeting him again and even helped him during Marineford. After all, Luffy had punched a Celestial Dragon since the last time they saw each other in Alabasta. And Crocodile saving Ace might really be because he hated the thought of the Marines and the World Government achieving their goal.
This theory of Crocodile being Luffy's mom is also really interesting though. I had heard of it before but thought it more of a joke theory before watching this video. Now it sounds a lot more plausible. I'm really looking forward the revelation of Crocodile's past at some point in the furture

It makes more sense that Croc is from Ivans kingdom, except he isn't flamboyant. He accepts others as they are, Bon Clay, but he doesn't want the stigma from his home country. Ivan probably understood that not everyone can be free in the same sense, helped Croc leave the island and helped make him a new identity, but also knows the leverage he now has over Croc. Croc also knows Shanks and Dragon, and that he's completely screwed if either finds out that he almost killed Luffy. This also explains why he's strictly described as male and not ironically being labeled as female because of how slim, well dressed, and mild mannered he behaves to try to rebel back in his home country
Sorry to ping you with a notification on a comment from almost a year ago but I'm just catching up on this video because everyone is going wild about a woman seen in the live-action One Piece being Crocodile. What I was gonna say is why would Crocodile being a former slave be something that Ivankov would blackmail him about? It's not as if him being revealed to be a former slave would change his status in any way -- if anything it would make him look more badass for rising up and becoming as powerful as he did. It has to be something he reeeeeaaally doesn't want anyone to know, and a gender swap might just be the thing!

Another possibility, Crocodile is related to or knew Luffys mom, and it wasn't until Marineford when all the pieces fell into place leading to Crocodile having a change of heart.

Compromise: Crocodile isn't Luffy's mom, but Luffy's Uncle. Luffy's actual mom was Croco-girl, Croco-boy's sister who was from a Celestial Dragon family (like Doflamingo) that was disgraced after having a baby with commoner Monkey D. Dragon, hence her disgrace and hence Dragon's ENTIRE WAR AGAINST THE WORLD GOVERNMENT

Interesting theory and good points. Another possibility is that Sir Crocodile is Luffy's mother's brother. Who might have been her sister long ago. Which would keep the connection to Ivankov but it would make him the uncle of Luffy, not his mother.

Crocodile is really interested in Luffy in the newspaper after these events. He reads about him after marineford when Luffy went with jinbe and Rayleigh, and then talks about going to the new world. Crocodile is also a very out of place reaction to Luffy’s 5 emperor news, the others are yonkos and strawhats close friends they’ve made throughout journey. Maybe oda just picked crocodile because he is a series favorite and we’ll never complain about seeing more crocodile, but it makes theories like this more fun.

There's also the theory going around that Croc never used haki despite being a veteran Grand Line pirate is because he stopped using it after becoming a man to prevent Ivankov's ability from wearing off. This could of course be attributed to the possibility of haki not yet existing when Oda wrote Alabasta, but then why did they specifically bring up that he was rumoured to not even know what it was in the more recent chapters? Really makes you think
Haki is also a factor of willpower. Maybe crocodile had a tiny amount of thin haki pre marineford, but after the luffy being dragons son was revealed he awakened his haki to be strong enough to clash with mihawk and akainu even if briefly. His resolve strengthened and awakened his haki just like how the exact opposite happened to gecko moria when his resovle weakened and he lost all his haki.
Pretty sure Haki existed at this point though wasn't named. A prime example would be Shanks when he loses his arm using Haki to save Luffy by frightening the creature off with just a look.

You know, another point towards this is that we keep checking back in on Crocodile from time to time. Which is weird, because while we do tend to check back in on important players in the story and people who have bonded with the crew (Vivi, Shanks, Makino/villagers, Baratie crew, etc) villains aren't really part of that, especially past villains. It's almost as though Crocodile still has a part to play in the future of the story, and it very well may be that this reveal is part of it. Maybe.

Like lucci, kaku and wapol in the reverie, baroque works at impel down, arlong got important again too at fishman island, buggy shows up a lot, we saw moria again with blackbeard, even enel was reoccuring in that canon cover story where he went to space. maybe i'm even forgetting some but i think reoccuring vilains or old vilains getting back into the story is not that unusual in one piece. i'm almost sure sometime in the future we will see enel back in the actual story again too

Lucci and such have a part to play in the current arcs, Baroque Works agents had a part to play in Impel Down, Buggy has parts to play when he turns up and in the future (for sure), Enel had a cover story which isn't what I'm talking about. Crocodile has been touched on once or twice since his part ended in the War. That denotes that he likely has a part to still play in the story. He's one of the only villains that we get to see doing whatever he's doing that isn't integral or part of the current plotline.
This Croco-mom theory has made me reconsider the true purpose of Cross Guild (aka the new organization/alliance headed by Buggy, Mihawk, and Crocodile): assuming that Crocodile (as the brains of the trio) had a major influence on the organization’s direction, I now think that Cross Guild’s ultimate goal (from post character development Crocodile’s POV) is to create a buffer/shield between Luffy and the World Government (by distracting the Marines with large swathes of bounty hunters/pirates motivated by Buggy’s bounties, thus giving Luffy breathing room).

The angle was very carefully constructed to hid Crocodile's face/body, when - if there was nothing to hide - it didn't NEED to be. In fact, the way it's framed in the shot, it's more likely to prove a change in the character.
Compare it to the other shots of Roger's death reactions, and Crocodile's is the only one hiding the face from view. Croco-mom lives on!
Bon-Clay wasn't part of Okama Kingdom. He explicitly met other okamas for the first time in Impel Down.
6:12 I think the reason that Ivankov calls Crocodile "Crocoboy" is because they, at some point, considered him a friend, like how they call Luffy "straw hat boy." Ivan holding crocodiles secret past over him does make a lot of sense though, considering van's power, and the fact that Luffy also knows one of his weaknesses. Crocodile wouldn't be so worried about information that Luffy of all people could figure out on his own.

I'll also add. The Scar on luffy eye, match the same spot where Dragon and Garp have their Tattoo and Scar, respectively, but Crocodile's goes across the face. And it can be it's a fusion of the parents markings. Also how Crocodiles can actually cannibals their children but are also overprotective of them as wells.

Important points on why Crocodile is Luffy's mother
1: Villains on One Piece ALWAYS get some backstory exposition during Luffy's fights with them. Hell, even some side characters (Senor Pink) get deep backstories. Crocodile has been given almost none.
2: The physical similarities between Crocodile and Luffy are about as similar as the same similarities between Luffy and Dragon.
3: Crocodile's end goal IS the same as Dragon's, but corrupted.
4: The raw amount of Masculinity that Crocodile drips, is very much over compensating for something. It's certainly not power, and I doubt it's his Ego. That only leaves, his past. Having known several FtM transmen, this is a VERY common practice.
Don Krieg, Wapol, Bellamy, Monet, Megellan & Caesar were all major villains who didn’t get a backstory so I think that argument holds weight. Also, off first glance there are 0 similarities in Crocodile and Luffy appearances alone

Ok, you actually convinced me. I always was fan of Croc was a woman theory and now also think he is Luffy's mom. His actions in Marineford speak volumes. There is really no reason someone like Croc would go out of his way and risk his life for someone who ruined his life. Even if he is repaying some sort of debt attacking Akainu is just going overboard.
you hit the nail on its head and if this was any other author than Oda, then maybe it would be a reach, but really, this is ODA we are talking about.... he's done WAY more careful things, the attention to detail he has for his story is beyond our comprehension.
We all shouldnt underestimate him like this, actions speak louder than words and that's what every charachter in the story is motivated by almost and every haevy and emotional scene, is one of action and not one of words.
In other words: Oda LOVES to make the decisions his charachters make matter, both big and large, on a level of attention that is so impressive that both the big and small actions often mirror one another.
Hence, so many people can make hours long videos about these things in One Piece.
Explaining why Oda would write an inconsistent charachter is a harder thing to explain than Crocodile being Luffys mother, simply put.

I just found out the fact that "A Crocodile's gender is determined by temperature during incubation", I mean, one cannot distinguish between a male and female crocodile if not observed closely. If Crocodile knew Ivankov he likely also knew Dragon, and if he had any loyalty to Dragon back in the day it's pretty reasonable that he would help Luffy of his own free will. I think an artistic reason I don’t see brought up when talking about this theory is the known Monkey D. Family all having a scar/marking near their left eye. Which, just so happens crocodile does as well. I know, not very compelling evidence but it is a similarity shared with them even if Crocodile being Luffy’s mom doesn’t take make him apart of the Monkey family.

This has likely been pointed out before... buuut, the first three people to rescue (whether or not intended) Luffy from Smoker's clutches, were (in order); Monkey D Dragon, Luffy's father, then Ace, Luffy's Brother, and lastly, when Luffy has nowhere to run, Sir Crocodile drops the floor out from beneath them.
After three names with massive bounties get in the way of smoker's capture of Luffy, it's then Luffy's actions of ordering Zoro to save Smoker that finally halts Smoker's pursuit... up until the paramount war, where Boa Hancock (who dreams of marrying Luffy) is next to step into Smoker's path.

- when Sir Crocodile is first talked about, it's regarding the Secret of who is Mr.0, Sir Crocodile's secret, their identity, which is then later discovered that Sir Crocodile still has a secret, one known by the symbol of Identity, Ivankov, they who challenge the worlds perception of identity.
- I find it amusing that Crocodile likes to pair up, or "ship" people based on their personalities, making up for what the other lacks, like Mr.4 Miss Merrychristmas. Or, based on things they have in common, like Mr.1 and Miss Double-finger, both physically sharp. Even amusing himself with pairing up Princess Vivi with Mr.9, who is a caricature of a king. Seems a little sassy and cute to me.

You could argue Croc was only defending Luffy and Ace because he had a greater disdain for the Navy than he does for pirates. And it's not uncommon for the people that Luffy defeats to side with him against a greater threat. Even some of Luffy's own crew were once his enemies. (Robin & Franky) It has been stated numerous times that Luffy has an ability that's sometimes greater than pure strength or technique. It's his ability to get people to form alliances and friendships with him. Even though I'm arguing against this theory. I want so badly for it to be true. It would explode heads.
Honestly, Crocodile being Luffy's mom could be combined with the theory that his mom is a celestial dragon.
Instead of her attempted murder being ignited by her getting pregnant with the child of a commoner, she thought that they as celestial dragons weren't any different from normal people and such, maybe even freeing some slaves on the sly. Stuff like that.
Eventually another celestial dragon sent someone to kill her, resulting in the scar across her face. Maybe she falls down a cliff or something, doesn't really matter how it happens, but somehow Dragon finds her and him and Ivankov and crew nurse her back to health.
They eventually fall in love while she hides with the revolutionary army in their early days, and eventually she learns Ivankov can change people's gender and decides to have Ivankov make her a man.
But before Ivankov can, she learns that she is pregnant, and so can't change until the baby is born.
Upon Luffy being born, she and Dragon vow to do everything in their power to make the world a place where their son can grow up happy or some crap.
She transforms, and goes off to find the ancient weapon Pluton, so the Revolutionaries can have the firepower needed to overthrow the celestial dragons, and splits from the group.
Dragon sends Luffy away so he can focus on building up the Revolutionary army.
And boom. A shitty theory that combines the two with a barely rational hypothetical scenario.
Maybe it was Dragon who got a sex change and tricked Crocodile into having Luffy which Ivankov used to blackmail Croc looool

You could go even further and theories that croco is Gol. D. Roger sister, changing his/her name and gender after navy captured Roger to avoid being hunted by the government as other relatives of Roger. This would merge Croco mom theory with Gol. D Roger sister mom theory. That also could be the secret past Ivanko used to blackmail him, not being a girl but being the sister of Gol. D. Roger. Also, why would he stop ace execution just because he is luffy mother? But it would make sense if he was actually aces aunt.

It can also just be, that while crocodile was in the revolutionary army (as a woman) fell in love with Dragon, while Dragon didnt loved her and loved someone else, maybe that was the reason to leave the RA and maybe she/he was thinking becoming a Man, would Help to get away with those feelings. And because of that he went to alabasta to get his hands on a ancient weapon first and create a alternative to the RA. When he found out that Luffy is dragons son, he just realised that he still has the same feelings and decided to protect the son of Dragon.
I dont get how anyone could think, he is the Mother of Luffy, while there are so many other possibilities, why he left the RA, why he was in Momoiro Island, why he decided to protect Luffy etc. its all just speculation.
Yeah this was my thought exactly. Croc was almost certainly related to the revolutionary army somehow and possibly was a woman who Ivankov did a gender change hormone thing to, but going from that to saying he’s Luffy’s mother is a stretch. At the very least we need a lot more evidence to show he wasn’t just a former dragon subordinate and has some blood relation to luffy

I'm not even that big of a One Piece fan, but for whatever reason I can't help but find this theory endlessly entertaining. It's like the "Jar Jar was the TRUE sith lord" star wars theory. It's so ridiculous yet plausible, I love it.
I was really expecting some mind blowing evidences that would make me doubt for real and you just came up with Crocoboy's strange behavior at Marineford. Sure, that's mystery and we are yet to know why Crocodile was trying so hard to help Luffy here (as well as his past) but bringing that up as the evidence that HE IS HIS MOM is just hilarious. Although I have to admit that there are strong hints that he was indeed a woman. Hope we'll know eventually what's up with this character.

CrocoMom is such a fun theory. You can even stretch it to compare the revolutionary army commanders to the members of baroque works. Both Croc and Dragon were/are assembling forces/armies.
there is another funny thing about this: everything in One Piece repeats somehow as Oda claimed, so if you think about it on the first half of the Grandline Nico Robin worked with luffy's mom (according to the theory), while on the second half she works together with luffy's dad aka the revolutionairy army :)
Crocodiles actions at marineford are explained by hawk eye's words, regarding luffy making fast allies. We see crocodile helping him out, because he was once luffys enemy, nearly killing him, so hawk eye's words have more of an impact for us readers. Besides he got locked up, so preventing the government from killing luffy is his way of payback.

Fair, but he wasn’t concerned with protecting Luffy at all until after he found out who he is.
Usually luffy says or does something that inspires people to be his friends or ally but there’s still no solid proof of Crocodile being inspired by Luffy just that he is in a bad mood and switching sides.
I also believe that if it were like the cases you are stating, Crocodile would have said some anime-like thing like "Now I have paid you back..." or something of that sort, of course it's all just theorizing, but based on the dialogue and what was happening I am more inclined to go with Crocodile having some sort of special bond with Luffy, maybe as the mother or perhaps as favor directly to Dragon.

Quite posible, Crocodile could easily be a case of a corrupted dreamer. He could have been a lot like Luffy, cheerful and optimistic, possibly with building a perfect kingdom but after some horrible accident that gave his scare and took his hand he had a complete shift of character. He still has his goal of becoming king as according to Mrs. Golden Weeks power to make dreams real(ish) (Mr.1 wanted to be a super hero). He could have gone from a "I will make a kingdom where my friend will be happy" to a "I will make the perfect kingdom by any means necessary"

the first thing crocodile says when he meets luffy face-to-face is an off-hand comment about vivi and her father reuniting. he says something along the lines of "is that how a long-lost parent is supposed to greet their child?" even if crocodile didn't know about luffy at the time, that is a HINT and you can't convince me otherwise
I love the crocodile being Luffy's mom theory, but I feel crocodile's actions after Luffy's lineage being revealed was due to his past and connection/respect for Dragon. I would be all for the twist though.

The evidence for him being the mother is pretty reaching imo. Not saying it can't be true, but it's perfectly reasonable that he would hate the government and really does want to play a part in seeing them humiliated in a globally covered event. The fact that it's this kid that actually defeated him would easily play into a begrudging respect and still feed into his narcissism that Luffy winning is his victory as well.
The thing that makes this somewhat convincing is that ODa stated that 1: we've already seen luffy's mom, and 2: she's not very pretty, shes more on the manly side. That together with knowing Crocodile has a secret past with Ivankov make s this a 50/50 for me. Though Oda could've done this all intentionally just to mess with us, he does have a pretty big braid after all

Croc taking on Akainu was always wild to me. Like Croc was a Warlord so he haddddd to know of Akainu and his powers right? What happens to sand when its super heated? It turns into glass if you didnt know..... so Crocs power can be 100% countered by Akainu just existing, and Croc HAS to know this..... and yet he throws himself into the fight with Akainu anyways just to save Luffy's life. Not to mention that Croc should be Ecstatic at marine ford since they captured a commander of whitebeards and lured whitebeard AND luffy to the most heavily defended spot on the planet at that time. Croc having a grudge against both whitebeard and luffy should be overjoyed by the fact that he was about to see the execution of one of whitebeards men and had the opportunity to take revenge on not only whitebeard but luffy too in one fell swoop. But as soon as Croc finds out Luffy is Dragons son his mood immediately sours as he/she realizes he/she has tried to murder his/her own son AND his/her sons life is again in danger. Knowing this and knowing the reason Luffy is there is to save Ace forces Croc to put literally everything on the line to save both whitebeards men and Luffy. Which would explain why he tells Mihawk that he is in a bad mood. Since now the situation has changed from getting revenge on those that have "wronged" him to suddenly his only child is in Mortal Danger. That would honestly explain a ton about those moments at marine ford, why croc suddenly turned to luffy's side, why he/she would fight against some of the strongest characters in the verse for no personal gain, why he/she would stand side by side with his sworn enemies (whitebeard pirates) to protect luffy. None of those things mattered anymore to Croc, nothing in the world mattered at that moment but making sure his/her son would live through the day. And if this is true that is fucking insane Oda you mastermind
there's also the fact that Crocodile did in fact do everything he could to get Luffy off of the battlefield as soon as possible, even going so far as to throw him to some unknown pirates just because it was probably safer there. I heard someone say Crocodile saved Luffy because he wanted to kill Luffy himself, but then why would he take the chance of handing away that privilege to an unknown (to him) pirate group? He was probably thinking that Luffy had a better chance off of the battlefield than on it, otherwise he would have just killed Luffy right then and there.

The Marineford part sounds legit, but there could be another reason. Like you said, it's possible that because of Crocodile's connection to Ivankov, he may also have a connection to Dragon. We've seen that Crocodile can hold a grudge. But what about gratitude? What if Dragon did something so great that Crocodile would feel indebted enough to save Luffy? Dragon has quite a bit of power in the One Piece universe, so it's not unrealistic either. It sounds a lot more unlikely, but there's still the possibility.

True, his secret that Ivankov mentioned could be something Dragon did for Crocodile and that's why he was trying to repay Dragon by protecting Luffy.
What if Crocodile isn't luffy's mother but instead aunt or uncle? I believe this to be so because many of the points would work here for why he was protecting fluffy and why he went out of his way to do so, but also because Croco-Boy has quite the resemblance with dragon, at least in my eyes.

We saw Doctor Q fruit transformed Law in a woman. He was able to revert it by using Haki. So Crocodile was a woman and transformed into a man with the power of a devil fruit. As Crocodile refuses to be a woman again he decided to never use haki. For that reason even being a super strong carácter and a warlord we havent seen him use haki
That's not how that works. Law states that you can reject a power if you have strong enough haki. That doesn't mean they have to reject it. And that'd also mean they have to have strong enough haki, otherwise any person on Dressarosa that had haki could have just undid Sugar's toy transformation.
Kaido and BM are both advanced CoC users and Law also has really strong armament considering he was able to damage them as well as shred up the person that Sanji broke his leg on (Vergo)

In marineford, crocodile was dead set on going after whiteboard, throwing his crewwmates around like ragdolls. But after the announcement of dragon being luffys father, his actions does a 180. He had no reason to save a former whitebeard pirate. And sengoku isn't a fleet admiral for nothing. It's given to those who not only has the strongest might but are also good strategists. For Sengoku to believe that Crocodile would have been a good addition against whitebeard and even following along that prediction when he attempted to fight whitebeard means that something put a wrench on that plan.
It would be very poetic if croc was his mom since croc is also the first enemy to truely pose a threat and end the story for luffy.
I think this theory might've been proven true in the recent live action One Piece on Netflix. I believe we see Crocodile in the very first episode in during the prologue. About 2:30~ in the episode right before we see Shanks the woman they focus looks oddly familiar but I couldn't place it till I realized, "wait, is that Croc? It can't be, could it?" Just a theory but you and others may be right.

In an interview with the showrunners, one of them accidentally revealed that Crocodile had indeed made a cameo in that scene, and the other guy gave him a shocked look like "Dude! Spoilers!" So that's basically an official confirmation that Oda told them, like when Game of Thrones revealed the R+L=J theory was true way ahead of the books.
Honestly speaking, It makes sense even more as Luffy's bounty grew he was smiling with joy on his face. It is very possible that being a mother led her to be too weak and she lost something big to whitebeard...maybe a territory or status? He is way too smart to be a common rabble of a pirate. His schemes are very calculated. Based on his discussion with Sengoku I'd even have a suspicion he's somewhat of a noble character in new world who got owned and his kingdom ripped away from him and to win it back he was looking for a ancient weapon to oppose white-beard because he says it clearly "What I am looking for is Millitary power" he was ready to overthrow Alabasta kingdom for that to establish his roots and take up position of King. Its also possible he's aiming to be a yonkou silently which again pits him against Whitebeard.

Maybe this is reaching, but given all the information discussed in this video, I find it interesting that Crocodile was one of the people shown reacting to Luffy's bounty increasing to one billion, and he was smiling. Could just be due to the respect he gained for Luffy during Marineford, but still.
It's kind of interesting when world news/bounties are shown, Crocodile often shows up in a panel. Feels like Oda wants to make sure we don't forget him for future storylines.
I feel it was more like "the only person who defeated me was a 1 billion berry pirate." Kinda like a pride that the one who defeated him is clearly undefeatable by anyone else.

It is actually very shocking to see Crocodile went out his way to protect Luffy and stopped Ace’s execution.
His original goal of killing Whitebeard changed to protecting Luffy is insanely differ. You don’t see Jinbei went toe to toe against Mihawk or shoulder throw the entire lake of Marineford against Akainu.

Transitioning to men could be to protect Luffy too, since they we already know the government was killing all the ones related to Gold D Roger and they could come after them (Croco-mom and Luffy) because they are related to Dragon, the 2nd Most Wanted Men in the world.
This is actually a really good point. It's not like aces mom was close to Ivan, so she couldn't just have the kid on time and get a gender swap, but croco momma could an dthat protected luffy.
There's a rule in storytelling that you don't suddenly introduce a new random character at pivotal moments and especially near the end of the story. So of all the characters to run into in Impel Down, Crocodile's reappearance and essential actions in Marineford saga solidifies his importance to the overall plot. If Oda is going to reveal who Luffy's mom is, it's going to have to be an important plot point to the story. I can't imagine how revealing Luffy's mom would be essential to the plot (or in this specific theory, Crocodile and Luffy meeting again)...unless it has to do with the rare bloodline point or he's a Tenryuubito (which would make the destruction of that system and the world government more symbolic)...especially because this piece of info is not something Crocodile (or Dragon) seems like the type to just reveal unless it was essential to do so... but that's why Oda is the master storyteller and not me. At the same time, it wouldn't be so farfetched to deviate slightly from the theory and pin Crocodile as formerly a woman who was close to Luffy's mom (eg biologically related to her or Dragon, or sworn sisters like Ace, Luffy, and Sabo). And yet there's the teaser Oda dropped for us that we've already seen Luffy's mom. Could this be the parallel theory to "Madara is Obito" from Kishimoto's Naruto? Only time will tell XD

This is super random, but your rule reminds me a super popular show that you all know, Avatar the Last Airbender, that had an extremely shit ending, but everyone praises how amazing it is, some even saying its one of the best shows of the last decade. Here's why(and this is before I knew about your storytelling rule) -- At the very end of the show, Aang wasn't prepared to face the fire lord. He meets a RANDOM turtle out of nowhere that helps him, and then randomly get his back shocked back into being able to go Avatar. Me, having read many stories, expected a better solution to all of his unpreparedness than that deus ex machina shit. I've been saying this for years and will argue it to no end. Avatar was not that great of a written story. The world-building was cool, but it was not a good story, not just the ending. I will get alot of hate for this because there are alot of fanboys out there, but you will never convince me all that nonsense was foreshadowed in any way.
To be fair, Dragon could equally be the Mom. Crocodile still wouldn’t want to admit that he is the father. Either way, we all cannot know for sure. Oda might just change his mind to surprise us all when it comes time to drop the parental bomb.

I always figured the secret was that Crocodile tried to kill Whitebeard, lost, got captured, and gnawed his hand off to escape like a dog. That would explain why he glorifies his wound with that ostentatious hook. He’s embarrassed about that time he lost so badly all he could do was run and wearing that (awesome) hook makes him feel better about it.
I think he had a sea stone cuff on his right hand and the only way he could get it off was to change it to the stature of a ladies hand so he could get out of sea stone cuffs which is why he’s so obsessed with man hood

I hadn't realized it until now but it is just coincidence that Luffy and Crocodile have similar face scars? They are in the same area of the face with the only difference being Crocodile's scar going all the way across his face. Even the stitch pattern is the same.

There was an old theory some years ago that Croc's scar had to do with his/or HER past being that they got their face disfigured somehow either in a fight or some event before current OP time and deciding to give up their womanhood and go full tough guy mode because they already have the resources for it (being that their entire bloodline is already all big names, it wouldn't be too out of reach for his mom to be one of the first villains he fight himself and recurring in the story showing up several times even after they were already beaten as a villain)

Some time ago I crossed paths with this theory and I also started my own investigation. I found a small but interesting detail:
According to the databook Blue Deep: Characters World Crocodile's zodiac sign is Virgo. This is the only sign represented by a woman.
It belongs to the Earth element which, like Water, is associated with femininity.
The signs are also grouped according to their modality: fixed, cardinal and mutable or double. Virgo belongs to the mutable and these, according to astrology, contain two basic opposite traits in the same personality. It could be a clue that Crocodile has been both man and woman.
What a great coincidence **coughs** that Oda picked out Virgo of all the zodiac signs.
Also, in the third volume of One Piece's 20th anniversary magazine there is a section dedicated to the great mysteries of One Piece and one of them is Croco's secret that Ivankov knows.
I think that could also be a clue that this mystery may be important at some point.

I think Crocodile's name was something like Caroline. It should be kind of similar sounding. I can't imagine any other reason for someone with sand powers to chose a creature who hunts from the water. The one thing he can't do.

I think he sent him on the island of women because it's the last place they'd look Straw Hat Luffy in, I think. Luffy wasn't shown to be attracted to anyone (outside of gags to Nami's flash) so I guess he trusted him enough to live in the island of women, it might also imply that he wants the island of women to realize that not all men are all that bad (stretching things a bit here at this point)

Might I point out that Luffy has a extremely rare blood type shared mostly with the fishmen, so couldn't luffys mother be perhaps related to the fishmen?
It's Sanji who had a rare blood-type back in Fishman Island, not Luffy.
Hybrid Fishmen are also easily noticeable.
Dellinger was only ¼ Fishman and yet we could still notice it.
Also, Crocodile has the blood-type O while Dragon has the blood-type B and parents with blood-types of O and B will either make a child with a blood-type B (like Luffy) or blood-type O.
Oda knows this since he applied it with Otohime and Neptune's children where Otohime is O and Neptune A which gave Fukaboshi, Manboshi and Ryuboshi a blood-type O while it gave Shirahoshi the blood-type A (like her father which may explain why she is a giant like him).

It's been a year, coming back to this video I noticed one thing, Luffy in the No Honor Time Omake literally is dressed up as crocodile, and the parallel between crocodile having sand power and dragon (supposedly) having wind power just reminds me of every single introduction Dragon has ever made in the show, both when he helped Sabo and when he helped Luffy, the clip with Crocodile showing up in marineford to help Luffy and then also sending Jimbei and Luffy away with his sand power reminds me of that. Another old part of this theory I remember seeing is with Crocodile's past (and the scar mark on his face, supposedly inflicted during some event before the current time in one piece now) and it played a role in him somehow being a supposed female character that had a wound on her face changing her life forever

I think Crocodile's actions at Marineford could also just be because he found out Luffy is Dragon's son. He might owe Dragon in some way and therefore protect Luffy. Or maybe he is scared of Dragon and wants to be on good terms with him. The presence of some sort of connection between Crocodile and Dragon is very plausible, but is it really because they had a kid together? I am not convinced.

This explains why Crocodile attacked Whitebeard at Marineford, but quickly switched sides and saved Ace from execution the first time around just after Sengoku announced Luffy was Dragon's son. Crocodile likely had no idea other than that Dragon had a son somewhere out there, and just found out that son was Luffy during the war. That's why Crocodile didn't give a reason as to why he (she?) was helping them save Ace, just that he says "Well, for now, we can't let the Navy win" after they start attacking Luffy.
well crocodile is female in the Live Action One Piece. At least in the Gold Roger execution scene it looks like a young female crocodile.
