This a great example of what a keyboard purchase is all about. Paying $999 for an 88 key Korg, great buy, but it doesn't allow seemless switching from one patch to another like your Kurzweil. People wanting to go beyond a piano to a workstation need to be asked this question, if they are gigging and need something that flows, then it's going to cost $. Great playing very awesome!
Agreed. I've had other keyboards that specialized in this and that, but for gigging, flow is so important. The "banks" feature on the Kurzweil has been invaluable. Thanks for the comment.

You're right. Total oversight. I promise if I do another one, there'll be Zeppelin and Queen. I even have a few songs in mind. Thanks for the kind words.
well done sir.. I've been entertaining my friend like this for many years too being an ear player and having too short an attention span/ more likely self-discipline (lol) to correctly learn the "b" parts that no one ever cares about anyway. I really enjoyed your compilation. (and quite frankly touch-up some mis-inverted chords in my own spin on these) Thanks for an excellent job of balancing educational with entertaining.
You play so good... I am an amateur playing in cover bands so I know what I mean. Only few of my heroes missing. Nothing from Genesis (Tony Banks), Firth of fifth is mandatory...
Jolie compilation, le tout bien interprété ! J' ai joué plusieurs de ces morceaux d'anthologie avec divers groupes, ça rappelle un bon vieux temps ! ^_
Nice job. Needs Cars by Gary Numan, Tom Sawyer by Rush, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis, Custard Pie... oh so many more songs come to mind; but hey, I would have you playing for another hour at that rate. I can't fault any of the songs you did include :-) Look forward to part two.
You're welcome. Thank you for your comment. I don't know the proper Portuguese reply, but if you understand this message and would like to teach me, I'd love to learn. Thanks again.
that was awesome. awesome sounding keyboards. I can't see, so could you please tell me what keyboards you were using? the company and the model? great video.
well. boath Ramond Kurzweil, and Stevie wonder, genius's for creating such an awesome board. well, with Consultation from Stevie Wonder, they created something amazing when the kurzweil keyboards were made, wish I had one. but I have so many, I wouldn't know where I'd put it, lol@@MVWDave
When you play the organ pieces it seems like you don't get the fast enough attack you'd want ideally - presumably because it's a hammer action keyboard? Just wondering if there is a key response curve setting on the Kurzweil or not. I have a Nord Stage 2 which compromises by triggering at the lightest touch when playing the organ section. It's still not as responsive as playing an organ keyboard, but a good compromise when you have to play a mixture of piano and organs with only 1 deck available! Great playing BTW - thanks for sharing!
Thank you. That's a good question. I need to check into the key response more, because it was all sort of a compromise. The keys are lighter than piano keys but heavier than organ keys and the response is wrong for both of them. I have other keyboards but this is the one that's closest to what I needed to pull this off with some degree of success on one keyboard. Overall, how do you like the Nord?
Im new to keyboard and I want to ask whoever is more experienced in this to help me with tabs. Is there any app/website like there is ultimate guitar tabs for guitar where you can search for a song and get instructions how to play it? I'm willing to learn some specific songs and simply by watching someone play it I ofc can't catch it all. Any help is welcome, thanks :)
I'm not aware of any website like that, though I'm sure there are some. Depending on your goals, I think it's good practice to try to learn a song or part of a song by ear. To help me with this, I sometimes use a software tool called "Song Surgeon" which can slow down the audio without changing the key. It also has an equalizer which can help isolate the tone of the instrument you're trying to learn. It's not perfect, but it can help if you're having trouble with a piece. The speed doesn't usually give me as much trouble as the fact that the part is buried in a mix. In that case, an equalizer can sometimes help, though sometimes not. Otherwise, I think a search for something like "(your song here) chart" or "(your song here) chords" would probably pull up some useful results. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Thanks Michal. I'll write those down for a future video. If you have any song suggestions, I'll try to fit them in. Gotta be something with a keyboard part.
I got a question, but the person took it down (or there was a glitch). Just in case, I change sounds with a foot pedal. I have banks on the keyboard with 10 sounds each. Then I change from bank to bank with a switch on the keyboard (you can see my hand jump up every so often). Thanks for the question.
Hi Dave? My name is Rocky.. I just found your video here and wanted to know if you might be in or around the NYC area? IF so, i would like to talk more with you about possibly playing synth on 2 albums of music i will be recording soon. The music is all 80s sounds, fun, upbeat, positive and rocking.. let me know.. Thank you
Hi Rocky. Thank you so much for the offer. I'm not sure I have the time in my schedule to take on another project, but if there's a way to contact you outside of the forum, let me know and we can talk details. Thanks again.
I was going to mention the stability of the keyboard stand, but I noticed you added an annotation about it to the video. Besides, as long as you're comfortable with it, it's not really my problem. ;-)
+macsnafu Thanks. I didn't even realize it was that bad when playing. I thought it was kind of funny looking back at it, but for future videos I will use a sturdier stand.
Hi Bryan. I'm playing it in G. If memory serves, I think that's the original key, but I've played it in other keys before to accommodate singers. What key do you play it in? I tried it in F# once (not easy).
+Anirvan Ray It's a Kurzweil Pcle3. I change the patches with a foot pedal. I can keep ten patches per bank on the keyboard. Every once in a while, you'll notice I do hit a button on the keyboard with my left hand to change banks.
I own this exact model of keyboard and I didn't know this trick for changing between presets with a pedal. I keep my preferred programs for each song saved under appropriate names and consecutive program numbers, but it's still difficult to scroll through to find the next one quickly in a live situation. Looks like I might have to read the manual!
What keyboard is this, if you can recommend it? I want to get into playing the synth, but don't want to spend too much money, nor do I want a cheap quality one I will have to upgrade. I realise this is probably a stupid question due to the range from a non-touch sensitive poor sound quality one for less than £100 to something like a Nord 2, but I have no way to judge keyboards on amazon without a starting point.
This is a Kurzweil PC3LE8. You can get one on eBay for around $1500, maybe less elsewhere (Guitar Center used, etc.) They are no longer available new, as Kurzweil has added newer models to replace it. It suits my needs for the most part, but I consider it a compromise. It has decent sounds across a wide range of instruments for a wide range of styles. I record on computer a lot, and find myself using external samples to replace my sounds as the sounds available using software are generally better. The physical touch of the keyboard is responsive. I always give my main keyboard what I call the "Angry Young Test." If I can play the Prelude section of Angry Young Man by Billy Joel, I consider the keys responsive enough. If there is lag, I pass. The compromise is it's not a true piano feel, or a true organ feel, or even a true synth feel. So, sometimes when playing parts that require a certain kind of touch, it falls a bit short. Synth solos in particular are tough. The key press is too deep to play fast synth parts. So, in general I would say it's a good all around keyboard. If you want a keyboard to emulate a piano, there are better ones (Kawai has good reviews). Nords generally have a good rep, and even some of the higher end Kurzweils, but they are pricey. I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask a follow up if I didn't adequately answer your question.
Wow this is amazing! I've been playing for a little bit now but I don't know if I will ever get this good as I am self taught haha. How long have you been playing for??
I have several banks of sounds that I preset on my keyboard. I use a foot-pedal (my left foot) to change between sounds within the bank. Every so often you may notice I reach up with my left hand and quickly hit a button on the keyboard. That's to change between banks. I think I had to do that 2 or 3 times.
fatih belli While I learned the songs by ear, putting them into a medley was surprisingly challenging. I tried to get them to make sense moving from one song to another, but also remain somewhat chronological. I decided ahead of time what parts of what songs I would use, and practiced them in sequence a bunch of times before I was ready to record.
+Matthew Wilkinson Thank you. Yes. I used the internal sounds on the keyboard where I could (I created combination sounds in most cases), but replaced some of them with software sounds to try to get a little closer to the original sound on some of them. In a couple of songs, I also layered an extra sound on top to add bass.
Yes. The keyboard has banks which each hold 10 different sounds. I set them up so I can advance between sounds (program or combi) with a second foot pedal. Then when I get to the end of the 10 sounds, I have to hit a button on the panel of the keyboard (you can see me doing that a few times in the video) to advance to the next bank.
You left out Pink Floyd (Great Gig in the Sky) and Layla - Derek & the Dominoes and you put Usher u.u... In the other hand I'm really impressed that you could play the organo solo for Karn Evil 9, soooooo impressive.
+walter kersting Thank you. The keyboard has banks which can be preprogrammed. Each bank has around 10 sounds. I switch between sounds with a foot pedal. When I get through the bank, I have to hit a switch on the keyboard, so you may notice every once in a while my hand flies up to the panel at the end of one part to change the bank. Getting that coordination down took some practice. Thanks again.
+walter kersting I like weighted keyboards for playing piano parts, but it's a bit difficult when playing parts that are meant for synth or organ. Those parts are played differently and I usually use a non-weighted keyboard for those (not in this video, of course, where I used a weighted keyboard the entire time).

Wow. Nicely done. Thank you.
WhyNotDave You should do a second part, It would be awesome!
Thanks Migue. I'm working on something now. It's a little different. I hope everyone likes it.
WhyNotDave Different like what? I cannot wait. Thanks for the Karn Evil 9 tutorial!
I'm gonna keep it a surprise for now. I've been working on it. Ready to record soon. I hope you like it.
Very nice playing.
Thank you.
nice job
Thank you.
Dude, your Billy Joel and Hornsby stuff was wicked!
Thanks man.
Your Saturday in the Park is amazing!!! If you made a tutorial that would be awesome!!
Thank you. I will definitely consider doing a tutorial.
I just added a video for the intro for Saturday in the Park. I don't know that I'll get to the rest of the song, but I hope this is helpful. th-cam.com/video/ScOMpYzCMcg/w-d-xo.html Cheers.
I love that. You are capable to play in many different styles.
You are outstanding man! Spot on with everything. That is a very good looking keyboard too.
Thank you so much. I'll pass along your compliment to my keyboard. ;)
Looking forward to it!!!
A history of rock & roll without Queen or Led Zeppelin.. what a tragedy. Haha
Seriously though
Your a phenomenal musician.
Keep up the good work
You're right. Total oversight. I promise if I do another one, there'll be Zeppelin and Queen. I even have a few songs in mind. Thanks for the kind words.
bobbypyn77
don't forget pink floyd
bobbypyn77 and also usher is a rocknroll artist? lol.
What happened to Yes also in here?
all songs played great..
man nailed that Bridge over Troubled water so well.
Amazing! Wish i could play like that... You great Sir!
Thank you so much!
well done sir..
I'm quite surprised there aren't any Queen songs on here. Anyway, great playing! I aspire to be like you someday!
Thank you. Yeah, I'm a Queen fan. That was an oversight.
Yeah, good idea, that would have been nice,...maybe next time?
I use to have the very first PC88, I think Kurzweil has the best string sounds.
You play so good... I am an amateur playing in cover bands so I know what I mean.
Only few of my heroes missing.
Nothing from Genesis (Tony Banks), Firth of fifth is mandatory...
Lots of omissions, unfortunately. As soon as I posted, I realized there were a lot of other artists I could have included.
@@MVWDave Every choice you make, someone could complain... Don't worry
Nice playing Dave!
Brilliant!
Jolie compilation, le tout bien interprété ! J' ai joué plusieurs de ces morceaux d'anthologie avec divers groupes, ça rappelle un bon vieux temps ! ^_
Merci beaucoup.
Nice job. Needs Cars by Gary Numan, Tom Sawyer by Rush, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis, Custard Pie... oh so many more songs come to mind; but hey, I would have you playing for another hour at that rate. I can't fault any of the songs you did include :-)
Look forward to part two.
Thank you. Great suggestions. If I do a second one, I'll have a good list.
Grande trabalho valeu pela postagem !
Thank you so much. It's a Kurzweil PC3LE8. Some of the sounds are external, though.
well. boath Ramond Kurzweil, and Stevie wonder, genius's for creating such an awesome board. well, with Consultation from Stevie Wonder, they created something amazing when the kurzweil keyboards were made, wish I had one. but I have so many, I wouldn't know where I'd put it, lol@@MVWDave
Amazing!
Thank you!
Linus and Lucy has that blusey swing vibe to it, it counts in my book.
I'll take it. 😉
Well done 👍
Excelente amigo, felicitaciones!!
Thank you very much.
EXCELLANT JOB, WND !!
Thank you.
NICE!!
That keyboard is awesome!
It's pretty versatile. Kurzweil PC3LE8. Great for gigging.
Cool!
Pretty Amazing!
Thank you.
Senti falta do supertramp
Yes. I should have included them.
WhyNotDave Well that's helpful enough ! Thanks man and btw. I love your work, keep it up ! 👍👍
Thanks so much.
Some damn good song choices. I would have liked to hear some Iron Butterfly and Deep Purple, but I enjoyed this nonetheless.
WhyNotDave Hey.. are you in NY then?
Not too far.
Hi Rocky. I'm a quick commute from NYC. I'd rather discuss the particulars privately, if you'd still like to discuss your project. Thanks.
Hey Dave. I found the person i was looking for. Thank you anyway.
Very good song of The Bealtes !
Nice! !! 👍👍👍
Wow amazing !
Thank you.
Most welcome.
What key are you doing Ballad of Billy the Kid in? It was great, but I usually do it in a different key.
Hi Bryan. I'm playing it in G. If memory serves, I think that's the original key, but I've played it in other keys before to accommodate singers. What key do you play it in? I tried it in F# once (not easy).
Which keyboard is it? And how are you changing the patches ? I didn't see your hands pressing any keys top keys...
Loved the Billy Joel pieces and “Jessica” (Allman Brothers) the most, but everything really sounded great. Well done!
Great job, but, yeah, you'll have to do Part 2.
Thank you Kayci. I've been playing since I was 4, which is a lot of years (more than I will admit publicly). ;)
Great stuff .. what keyboard is that?
Thank you. It's a Kurzweil, PC3 LE8.
*@boundlessdave Amazing ... I just got a Casio cx 700. I've learned sooooo much already from your first two videos ..* . Thank you ...
@@hypnosiscenternyc You're welcome. I'm happy you're getting something out of the videos. Good luck.
Love this i can play sweet dreams are made of this and all of me on piano but im still in lessons
Great Vid. Keep em' coming

How do you change the keyboard from voice to voice without touching the controls?
I have several banks of sounds that I preset on my keyboard. I use a foot-pedal (my left foot) to change between sounds within the bank. Every so often you may notice I reach up with my left hand and quickly hit a button on the keyboard. That's to change between banks. I think I had to do that 2 or 3 times.
Are these played by ear spontaneously ?
fatih belli While I learned the songs by ear, putting them into a medley was surprisingly challenging. I tried to get them to make sense moving from one song to another, but also remain somewhat chronological. I decided ahead of time what parts of what songs I would use, and practiced them in sequence a bunch of times before I was ready to record.
wow awesome! did you program the sounds on the keyboard yourself?
+Matthew Wilkinson Thank you. Yes. I used the internal sounds on the keyboard where I could (I created combination sounds in most cases), but replaced some of them with software sounds to try to get a little closer to the original sound on some of them. In a couple of songs, I also layered an extra sound on top to add bass.
The rock and roll keyboard compilation I NEEDED :-) Excellent work man!
New frend here, hope you can visit too!
How did you get the sounds to seamlessly switch without pressing anything?
I had banks set up in advance that I switched with a second foot pedal.
Thank you everyone for the nice comments.
You got some skill
WhyNotDave no prob when I grow up I want to play the keyboard
Oh, don't ever grow up. ;)
How long did it take you to learn it all?
How do you change to next preset? Is this setup in advance and triggered in a certain way at the start of new song?
HLF31528376
You left out Pink Floyd (Great Gig in the Sky) and Layla - Derek & the Dominoes and you put Usher u.u...
In the other hand I'm really impressed that you could play the organo solo for Karn Evil 9, soooooo impressive.
Thanks. Yeah, I know. A lot of omissions. Where were all you guys when I was putting my list together? lol.
How do you change voices on almost every song? Nice demo, you clearly are loaded with piano talent.
Thanks again.
do you like weighted keyboards? or jus what may be known as touch sensative?(touch for me)
+walter kersting I like weighted keyboards for playing piano parts, but it's a bit difficult when playing parts that are meant for synth or organ. Those parts are played differently and I usually use a non-weighted keyboard for those (not in this video, of course, where I used a weighted keyboard the entire time).
