Thanks for the excellent version of my favorite fiddle song. I was able to finally play along with you and the tempo is perfect and most play it way too fast. You are an excellent fiddle player!
Thanks for your explanation of the different traditions! I still have a question: why is it not advantageous to crosstune to AEae since the drone would be the third finger and the tune does not use the third finger until the string change? Is that not allowed (or too hard to manage) in a jam or a contest?
THANK YOU! My uncles were fiddlers and I spent years going with, then taking my father to contests all over the Texas Hill Country. From Camp Wood, the Old Settlers Reunion fiddle contest all the way (and in Texas, 'all the way to' has a completely different understanding of distance than most places in the country😉) to the Fiddlers Frolic in Halletsville. I loved it and miss it. HOWEVER, having said that, there were many times I thought that if I jihad to hear 'Sally Gooden' one more time I just might run screaming into the hills, never to be heard from again. This was especially true in the younger categories of competition. It's a great tune by I never figured out why hthat song was everyone's choice. I'm 63 and have decided it's now or never. I realize I will never be really good because that takes years I don't have but I am loving it. I tell my family that I'm not so much playing the fiddle but more like 'playing with' the fiddle. I can't tell you how thrilled I've been at finding out just how many different places online are about learning to play the fiddle. Thank you again for mentioning Sally Gooden so now maybe I will learn why so many contestants played it.
