Those hospitals especially mental hospitals if the walls could speak I imagine they would tell a gruesome tale of abuse, and sadness.

That's an interesting site. Was it's purpose to cover the strategic route of 'The Hog's Back'? I only ask, because I can remember seeing the remains of an Abbey near there that had been fortified with pillboxes, gun slits in walls, tank traps, and, most fascinating of all, wires stretched across a river, so that troops could not row up it at night. 'The Hog's Back' is important, because in theory, an army could use it to advance from the South, and cut London off from the North West. It was one of the great fears in WW2. I can't remember the name of the Abbey, but it's not far from Guildford. I've seen North Weald Mobilisation centre - it's not far from the old Underground line (Blake Hall station on it was once the least used station on the system - six passengers a day), and it's not far from the site of Ongar Radio, which I believe was a Marconi experimental site. I used to have family living in Ongar, all long gone now. My late father, of course, knew the surrounding countryside like the back of his hand. One of his most vivid memories was of seeing a Martin B-26 'Marauder' crashing in flames near his home, in the latter stages of the war. I was making an Airfix kit of one, and dad picked up the box lid, and said: "Do you know the nickname of this plane?" I told him that I didn't, and he continued: "They used to call it the 'Widow-Maker' - it had a very fast landing speed." He then told me of the crash he'd seen when he was about 16 or 17. I don't go to Ongar much - there are simply too many ghosts of the past there.

marty The same thing is happening in the US, probably for similar reasons. The old Danvers State Hospital was finally demolished after years of abandonment and I've seen videos of several other places that are abandoned but still exist, but who knows for how long.

David Bowie's brother Terry. About whom David named his album 'Aladin Sane'. If you say it out loud, the title's meaning is clear. One of the most poignant album titles ever, once you know it's backstory.

🤔 this fort are the rest in this series were obviously built to defend the M25 and act as an early "services"for British Troops and incase the Napolionic French decided to use the 25 on route up from Dover. (Nort Weald for the M11!) The only other one that survives is Cobham Fort, now known as Cobham services!! Great vid guys, keep them coming and happy new year to you. (and before anyone says anything it's all ment tounge in cheek)

Before these buildings at the below Google ref were built it was waste ground and the was a very deep bunker which I have mentioned in my other comments, this is on the A25 in Redhill town centre and we used to go down there when we went into town whilst I was at the Philanthropic school.
Any info would be appreciated as to what this was as it doesn't seem to appear on official lists of known sites.
