We definitely need laws to help protect our privacy
I totally agree, but only if the government can agree to censor and block the foreign brokers overseas from any type of search engines or any platform one my use to find them. If any US brokers are caught and convicted, they should be fined and jailed. Not just "cost of doing business" fines, but millions of dollars and lengty jail terms for everyone involved. The fines they pay should be held in an account to help Americans who are victims of ID theft and to scrub their data from the web that these assholes have exposed, and keep it off. I can't think of a single person I know who thinks that broadcasting our personal information all over the internet, is in any way a good idea. Some just throw their hands up and say, "Oh Well". We can be submissive, or we can fight back tirelessly by telling our politicians in congress, repetedly, to do something about this. Loud voices shall be heard. The process in actually doing this is not as hard as it seems! It just takes action.
💯
the companies will just move their servers to russia or belarus or basically any post soviet shithole where nobody cares about these things. good luck removing your data from there
Law and Privacy is an oxymoron
California has a law and they still list people's information. They wait for you to contact these damn companies to have it deleted.
I kinda hate how I can search some for $20 but have to spent $100+ to be protected. We definitely need more laws in place.
Agreed on all points. I've been a customer of DeleteMe for as long, if not longer, than you. I try to refer friends all the time. However, most don't understand what I'm talking about no matter how much I explain. Luckily, your video explains it very well and I'll refer it to those who don't understand. Thank you for your efforts :)
What worked for me was literally showing my family how easy it was to search for their info. It totally creeped them out!
@@ShannonMorse random "viral" idea: make a longform and shortform video of you doing that (showing a non-tech literate friend how easy it is to look up their information)
Just an idea, thanks for this video!
This is why i think we need to re-think internet security and have Levels and licensing levels to allow you to have and obtain certain parts of information and hold it secure. And having a failure or breach of data at your license level you already know what is required and what to do.
Yes 👏 unfortunately a lot of data brokers kinda work in a "gray zone" of legality. Better regulations for our privacy would be useful here. GDPR and California's CCPA are a good start, but we have nothing federally here in the US.
So outstanding to see this review come together. I love this service and it's so great that I now have a place to which I can point friends and loved ones so they can learn about it and use it, as well.
It's invaluable 💗💗💗
I love seeing two security experts I hold in high esteem in agreement on this!
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate the security knowledge. Blessings on your day 👍🏻
Awesome video Shannon, thank you so much!
Great video, Shannon! Thanks for posting!
This was so helpful. Thank you🤗
I signed up after Watching one of your other vids...it works great!!! Thank you for all you do!!!
Incredibly informative and relatable as always! I want to look into DeleteMe myself.
Just enrolled from your last video. I've seen other reviews but I don't trust some of these newer channels. Thanks for being a trusted source that helped me make the choice. Hope you get the sponsor/affiliate credit!
Hope you love it!! And feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Great stuff thanks
Nice video! Our telephone books were so small they couldn't throw them at our door! 🤣
Oh wow! Ours were so heavy they were like bricks!
Super informative, sold. And I had to pause and laugh when ya broke down phonebooks, good stuff 😀
🤣 lmao
I've got to be honest shannon twice in search this week your videos have popped up! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
I had never even heard of this kind of service before, so thanks for this!
Happily just singed up under your affiliate link. Really like your presentations and happy to cast a few pennies you way for your efforts.
Great information.... and Explanation
I like this vid. Good insight.
I signed up early this year thanks to your video and I used your link. It's not the cheapest but it works!
@D.von.N if you look at what the service dose it explains it. Obviously they cant remove illegal information stored by people. But they can go thru the legal means of the legal companys that store and share your info.
Love the hair
great video Shannon, and might I say you look absolutely gorgeous in this one (like always).
This video so helpful
nice one Shannon keep it up tr good work
Thank you!!
Informative review, I never realized it was that inexpensive, definitely something to seriously consider.
Hi Shannon 😊 I just found your channel, and am going thru your 30 Day Security Challenge on your webpage. I'm in the middle of Day 2 😅 Are there any of your videos here that are not addressed in that challenge (since I know the challenge is a little older) that you would suggest I watch and add to that Security Challenge? Thank you so much for this content! ❤
I used Abine Blur, made by the same company who owns deleteme, for years. It was a password manager, masked phone / email / credit card service. Over time the service kept increasing the cost to use the service while adding limits on how much you can use it. I didn't try deleteme for that reason. I'd be curious to know if they have the same practices on this product.
Actually I just checked and my pricing hasn't increased. I haven't tried blur so can't speak to it at all.
I hope you’re training the next generation of hak5 enthusiasts. Your content is gold 👍
Another great video. Thank you
Thanks a lot! Will DeleteMe be able to delete all my personal data within one month?
Shannon - Does a service like DeleteMe help address privacy leaks from data breaches (e.g. Luxottica) not just data brokers? Thanks for such a great channel!
Very Interesting. In the free search it never found anything in the City or State I listed so how can I feel comfortable that there on the up and up?
Great vid, but sadly the best I can tell is that this is not available outside of the U.S.?? No option for Canadians??
What happens if you give DeleteMe personal info that data brokers don't have yet? Won't you just be giving them more PII ...Or does DM keep it to themselves?
I prefer Optery.
Has it reduced your email, text and calling spam? If so, how much? And thank you for all the great content over the years, I've been watching your videos since early HAK 5 days!
Do you ever evaluate one rep? Results?
Shannon I recently purchased deleted me how can I get connect with a live person
Hey Shannon! a few years back you had a playlist about being secure online. I think it was title 30 day security course something something... I can't seem to find that playlist on your channel anymore. Do you still have it?
It was on my old channel! I intend to make a new series for this channel!
Ive Been using Abine Deleteme for over a year now I also have lifetime subscription to Abine
They any good for U.K./EU citizens?
Hey. Looks like an awesome service. Shame it's US only.
Don't suppose you know of any reputable alternatives that work in any country do you please? Thanks
Being from the EU I believe GDPR is the law which applies to avoid this from happening to us. I think countries such as Canada, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand, just to name a few, have similar laws, so companies don't share your data unless they make it explicitly clear.
Does it work for people living in the UK
I signed up for aura. And for most of it. It seems good but for the date brokers removal. It didn't remove anything. It said date broker removal in progress but it never removed anything. Gonna try delete me maybe it's better
Hey Shannon do you get better protection if you pay by the year as opposed to monthly payments
No, it's the same.
One more question again and thank you for the congratulations I appreciate that I think you're super groovy as smart as hell there are several things I would love to discuss with you if you would be interested also do you have to have a computer or laptop tablet to control through your phone better as to just supposed to having a phone thank you I'm sorry that's not a goofy didn't it
do they or someone else have a service for snail mail? I bought a new house last year and my mailbox is constantly full of other peoples' crap
Is it avalaible for US only?
Appreciate the content Shannon! I believe unless you stop willingly giving your data over to "big tech" ie: smart phones, watches, and social media apps, I believe it's a moot point trying to plug the privacy holes after the fact. The only true way to get back your privacy is to De-Apple and De-Google your life.
Some of the info data brokers collect could be a decade old... So here's another idea (which I also brought up in the video): start using new data. I know I won't have any luck getting family members to de-apple their lives, but I have had success getting them to use a PO box instead of their home addresses.
$120 annual price says? Zero option for monthly price. Is this correct?
Is it $129 for 1 year and 1 person the post-discount price?
Would this service be useful for somebody who lives in the UK? Not sure if most of the data brokers known to deleteme only store US resident information
Good question!
You have better data privacy laws in the EU as opposed to the US
Are you giving proxy or power of attorney?
Any suggestions for people in Europe?
DeleteMe only covers USA data brokers. 😕
@shannon do you have any suggestion for European citizens?
I think GDPR applies for us but don't quote me on this 😅
Despite being quite active on the net with various accounts it seems that I'm pretty much a nobody when it comts to my data footprint on the internet.
It seems that all my hundreds of email addresses and a lot of fake accounts paid off after all. ;)
I've been using Deleteme for 2 years, maybe a little more by now, and I found out about from one of your old videos. Their service is defiantly worth it. The amount of private data that is out there if you live on the internet like so many of us is appalling. I mean the source data doesn't go away but they do make it much more difficult for normies to surface private info. I guess this is thanks. 👍
Surface data goes away when you mask everything and make a fake of yourself even google starts to replace it 😉 that on top of delete me win win
Shame this is a US only service, seems very easy to use, do your InfoSec friends know of a trusted UK / EU version of this type?
Now we need protection from google images. I don’t want to put a photo up on dating sites because anyone can find my Facebook with my photo now! Ridiculous!! Less and less privacy.
I’m going to order this. I was so mad seeing my full name , dob , addresses , where I use to work , family members , marital status , education. I could not believe it. Then I found out my nosey co workers were looking up everyone they worked with to find out their ages. I can’t believe this is legal. So all of you people in here watching this video …. Just think about how any of your co workers , next door neighbors etc can look up all your info. I found this delete me from Norton antivirus so I thought I would look up reviews on this and it’s pretty good ! Some of the main sites that are blasting your private info are spokeo , mylife and white pages. I was able to see all my friends on those sites , my family , co workers.
Whoa! Creepy coworkers! 😬
Yes, I'm so freakin pissed off! i have a coworker who is stalking me right now. Wish I'd known about this service earlier!
Does delete me have an app?
Can you delete your information as well as that of family members as well?
They have family plans if you want to add folks to yours (and you can use my discount for those plans as well)
that "hey" you have when you show your social media links really shows how conditioned my brain is after a life of playing zelda.. i immediately react and look at the screen
Have you seen that google has a new feature where it will remove links that lead to your address, phone number, and email?
I did! But unfortunately it just removes the links from google search. Those sites still put your data on their sites on a reoccurring basis. 🤬
@@ShannonMorse Yeah, for sure. I’ve just been doing that as a temporary workaround until the site gets around to taking it down. Some are great, others are a pain in the A$$!
I would pay for it but its for U.S. residents only. They need to look at supporint other countries such as Australia
Aww it is US residents only .
GDPR in the UK and Europe it takes a simple email to remove data, I guess its not as easy in the US.
Yup here we don't have any federal laws, though several states are enacting their own privacy laws.
Why not do your TOTP auth codes in your yubikey? then it's a portable offline code not stored in your phone and easily moved to a new phone or computer. Hardware based TOTP for those sites that dont support U2F, FIDO, or yubikey directly...
That's actually a tip I mentioned in my recent Yubikey video!
@@ShannonMorse I thought so, so was confused why you were disappointed with no direct hardware token support... Other than the limit on number of TOTP/OATH slots. Really enjoy your videos!
Because codes can still be MITM attacked or social engineered.
Is deleteme the best?
It's my favorite for auto removal from data brokers, and lots of info sec folks use them too. Disclaimer: they're a channel sponsor now, but I have been a paying customer long before they knew I existed on TH-cam.
how is this LEGAL! I used to work with battered women; it is dangerous! how their info can be so easily found on the internet!
More free time = more playing with Sookie time. Worth every penny.
Yes this 👏
I've had Delete Me for two years, and Delete me doesn't remove real information. I've had doxxing info posted and it won't remove it. My address and name right there on several sites (not data brokers but government sites) and apparently that's all good :/ CANCELLED
Sirena, deleteme doesn't say anywhere that they'll remove data from government sites, and afaik, that's never been the case. They work on data brokers sites. I'm sorry but it sounds like you misunderstood their service.
Its only for the US. 😅
Nice hair
Thanks!
@@ShannonMorse np :)
Delete me is making it very affordable for us to protect our identities. Thanks for this awesome breakdown.
LOVE YOUR HAIR
U R still doin the effort of reporting.
Might as well do it urself. 🤔🤔🤔
I'll take filling out one form on DeleteMe over filling out 62 forms on data broker sites anyway, but you do you!
How to delete your data from the internet?
Answer: You can't.
That's right!!!
Love you guys @ hak5
