I totally agree, but only if the government can agree to censor and block the foreign brokers overseas from any type of search engines or any platform one my use to find them. If any US brokers are caught and convicted, they should be fined and jailed. Not just "cost of doing business" fines, but millions of dollars and lengty jail terms for everyone involved. The fines they pay should be held in an account to help Americans who are victims of ID theft and to scrub their data from the web that these assholes have exposed, and keep it off. I can't think of a single person I know who thinks that broadcasting our personal information all over the internet, is in any way a good idea. Some just throw their hands up and say, "Oh Well". We can be submissive, or we can fight back tirelessly by telling our politicians in congress, repetedly, to do something about this. Loud voices shall be heard. The process in actually doing this is not as hard as it seems! It just takes action.
the companies will just move their servers to russia or belarus or basically any post soviet shithole where nobody cares about these things. good luck removing your data from there
Agreed on all points. I've been a customer of DeleteMe for as long, if not longer, than you. I try to refer friends all the time. However, most don't understand what I'm talking about no matter how much I explain. Luckily, your video explains it very well and I'll refer it to those who don't understand. Thank you for your efforts :)
@@ShannonMorse random "viral" idea: make a longform and shortform video of you doing that (showing a non-tech literate friend how easy it is to look up their information) Just an idea, thanks for this video!
So outstanding to see this review come together. I love this service and it's so great that I now have a place to which I can point friends and loved ones so they can learn about it and use it, as well.
This is why i think we need to re-think internet security and have Levels and licensing levels to allow you to have and obtain certain parts of information and hold it secure. And having a failure or breach of data at your license level you already know what is required and what to do.
Yes 👏 unfortunately a lot of data brokers kinda work in a "gray zone" of legality. Better regulations for our privacy would be useful here. GDPR and California's CCPA are a good start, but we have nothing federally here in the US.
Just enrolled from your last video. I've seen other reviews but I don't trust some of these newer channels. Thanks for being a trusted source that helped me make the choice. Hope you get the sponsor/affiliate credit!
I used Abine Blur, made by the same company who owns deleteme, for years. It was a password manager, masked phone / email / credit card service. Over time the service kept increasing the cost to use the service while adding limits on how much you can use it. I didn't try deleteme for that reason. I'd be curious to know if they have the same practices on this product.
@D.von.N if you look at what the service dose it explains it. Obviously they cant remove illegal information stored by people. But they can go thru the legal means of the legal companys that store and share your info.
What happens if you give DeleteMe personal info that data brokers don't have yet? Won't you just be giving them more PII ...Or does DM keep it to themselves?
I’m going to order this. I was so mad seeing my full name , dob , addresses , where I use to work , family members , marital status , education. I could not believe it. Then I found out my nosey co workers were looking up everyone they worked with to find out their ages. I can’t believe this is legal. So all of you people in here watching this video …. Just think about how any of your co workers , next door neighbors etc can look up all your info. I found this delete me from Norton antivirus so I thought I would look up reviews on this and it’s pretty good ! Some of the main sites that are blasting your private info are spokeo , mylife and white pages. I was able to see all my friends on those sites , my family , co workers.
Would this service be useful for somebody who lives in the UK? Not sure if most of the data brokers known to deleteme only store US resident information
I signed up for aura. And for most of it. It seems good but for the date brokers removal. It didn't remove anything. It said date broker removal in progress but it never removed anything. Gonna try delete me maybe it's better
Shannon - Does a service like DeleteMe help address privacy leaks from data breaches (e.g. Luxottica) not just data brokers? Thanks for such a great channel!
Hey. Looks like an awesome service. Shame it's US only. Don't suppose you know of any reputable alternatives that work in any country do you please? Thanks
Being from the EU I believe GDPR is the law which applies to avoid this from happening to us. I think countries such as Canada, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand, just to name a few, have similar laws, so companies don't share your data unless they make it explicitly clear.
Hey Shannon! a few years back you had a playlist about being secure online. I think it was title 30 day security course something something... I can't seem to find that playlist on your channel anymore. Do you still have it?
I've been using Deleteme for 2 years, maybe a little more by now, and I found out about from one of your old videos. Their service is defiantly worth it. The amount of private data that is out there if you live on the internet like so many of us is appalling. I mean the source data doesn't go away but they do make it much more difficult for normies to surface private info. I guess this is thanks. 👍
@@ShannonMorse Yeah, for sure. I’ve just been doing that as a temporary workaround until the site gets around to taking it down. Some are great, others are a pain in the A$$!
Has it reduced your email, text and calling spam? If so, how much? And thank you for all the great content over the years, I've been watching your videos since early HAK 5 days!
One more question again and thank you for the congratulations I appreciate that I think you're super groovy as smart as hell there are several things I would love to discuss with you if you would be interested also do you have to have a computer or laptop tablet to control through your phone better as to just supposed to having a phone thank you I'm sorry that's not a goofy didn't it
Appreciate the content Shannon! I believe unless you stop willingly giving your data over to "big tech" ie: smart phones, watches, and social media apps, I believe it's a moot point trying to plug the privacy holes after the fact. The only true way to get back your privacy is to De-Apple and De-Google your life.
Some of the info data brokers collect could be a decade old... So here's another idea (which I also brought up in the video): start using new data. I know I won't have any luck getting family members to de-apple their lives, but I have had success getting them to use a PO box instead of their home addresses.
I've had Delete Me for two years, and Delete me doesn't remove real information. I've had doxxing info posted and it won't remove it. My address and name right there on several sites (not data brokers but government sites) and apparently that's all good :/ CANCELLED
Sirena, deleteme doesn't say anywhere that they'll remove data from government sites, and afaik, that's never been the case. They work on data brokers sites. I'm sorry but it sounds like you misunderstood their service.

that "hey" you have when you show your social media links really shows how conditioned my brain is after a life of playing zelda.. i immediately react and look at the screen

Why not do your TOTP auth codes in your yubikey? then it's a portable offline code not stored in your phone and easily moved to a new phone or computer. Hardware based TOTP for those sites that dont support U2F, FIDO, or yubikey directly...

Law and Privacy is an oxymoron
California has a law and they still list people's information. They wait for you to contact these damn companies to have it deleted.
I kinda hate how I can search some for $20 but have to spent $100+ to be protected. We definitely need more laws in place.

Yup here we don't have any federal laws, though several states are enacting their own privacy laws.
