I could listen to Shawn Camp all day long. He has such a cool humility that is really wonderful and rare these days. Especially for someone who has picked and sang with the best. Wonderful anecdotes as always.
Thanks again Otis. Shawn is a talented "Good Guy". So many great Kris songs and I love 'em all. But my brother and I use to sing "Pilgrim Ch. 33" together- great memory.
I worked with Kris on a movie called "A Star Is Born." There's too much detail to go into here but he did something that made me glad that he's one of my hero's. They say you don't want to meet your hero's but in this case I'm glad I did.
@@twoshirtman7096 Loved that movie. Used to walk downtown to rent it every now and then. Also read an article recently by someone involved with that movie. Sounded like Kris put up with a few neurotics, and was possibly one of few professionals working on it.
Otis, these are so much fun. Shawn is not a household name but probably should be. What a talent. One can see why songwriters like Guy Clark and Kris Kristofferson like to be around him. I cover Magnolia Wind on my site and just love the song! Thanks Otis. This is Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you tube.
It’s amazing the amount of truly great songs written by him. I was lucky enough to meet him and his band (he had Merle haggard sons playing) hang out backstage and then see the show he did a few years back here in Oregon. Truly blessed. What a great soul. Thanks Otis.
I was pretty young when I heard Kristofferson, probably 3 or 4 years old. Mom would put on records and sing along as she was doing housework. Fond memories Thank you, Otis for bringing us the stories; and thank you, Shawn, for telling them 🙏
I was fortunate that way, too. Mom was always playing records, not the radio. Dad had a big pile of 8-tracks in the car. I also have an uncle who played in bluegrass bands and I got to go see him play fairly often as a kid. I honestly feel bad for people who didn't have music in the home all the time growing up.
@@otisgibbs Big thanks Otis, I and the other 42 200 followers, of your TH-cam Channel, we really like the material that you are posting. It's a good education for music lovers.
For a while I wanted to open my own bar (instead of always making other bar owners rich, ha ha), and "Tally Ho Tavern" was on the very short list of names for it if I ever got around to it. Strictly because of that tune.
So many great songs. Impossible to pick just 1 fave: Why Me Lord Sunday Morning Coming Down If You Don't Like Hank Williams Just 3 of my favorites - Many others could move to the top of the list due to mood of the time.
Shawn Camp, Chris Scruggs, Kenny Vaughn and Ray Wiley Hubbard are my favorite story tellers you've had on your channel. Those guys have about 1/2 a degree of seperation from everyone in the music business. I could listen to them tell stories all day.
I watched the movie "Rollover" around 1982 when I was about 14. I was a big fan of the whole outlaw music thing then and really just watched it because it starred Kris. That movie introduced me to international currency trading and set me on a path. It's funny how life can change with a trip to the local video store.
I’m a huge Kristofferson fan and enjoyed the video. As a side point, I’d never really known who wrote the old Lefty Frizzell classic, “Long Black Veil.” Looked it up and Marijohn Wilkin and Danny Dill are listed as the writers. That’s one amazingly beautiful, haunting song. I too was/am mesmerized by Kristofferson’s “To Beat the Devil” and many others among his remarkable catalog but kudos to Wilkin and Dill as well for that great, great song. Here’s to the old Tally Ho Tavern and all the writers who enriched our lives.
My Mom was a huge Willie Nelson fan, and both my parents loved Johhny Cash and Waylon Jennings, so that's sort of what led me to Kris. I thought the story of Cash doing "Sunday Morning Coming Down" to give Kris his big break was just the coolest thing I ever heard. If I had to pick a favorite KK song it's probably "Silver Tongued Devil" ... but I don't really have to pick just one. ;)
As a New Grass/ Progressive Bluegrass/Folk fan.... Shawn Camp is my favorite guest you interview followed close by Kenny Vaughn. Both are mega-stars in my book.....which no one has ever read!!
Love hearing stories about Kris, a true legend. I of course am still pissed about the report out on Tom T. Why did we need to know that, we all reeled from losing him but nah they had to sully his loss. Pieces of 💩! Sorry but I am ticked. Blessings to ya and thanks for all you do to bring us some great entertainment and HUGS to Ms. Amy!
Happy New Year Otis! Kris has sooo many great cuts to choose from. My 2 all-time favourite lyrics are probably "When you're headed for the Border, Lord, you're bound to cross the line" from Kris' "Border Lord " (I esp. the Live at the Philharmonic version); and Bruce Cockburn's "Mama Just Wants to Barrelhouse", off the Night Vision album - so, so, so good and my personal fave - which has the lyrics (3rd stanza with the Faye Wray ref. is brilliant imho), "I hear the city singing like a siren choir; Some fool tried to set this town on fire; TV preacher screams 'come on along'; I feel like Fay Wray face to face with King Kong; But mama just wants to barrelhouse all night long".
I still have 13 unreleased songs of Guy Clark's recorded before "Old #1" including "Step inside this House" been trying to get them out for years.Go ahead ask Verlon about them Shawn. Got any Ideas? Kris is my hero always enjoy the stories you guys. Thanks Otis. Oh yea, "Here Comes That Rainbow Again"
I saw Kris live in concert. He mentioned the story of meeting Cowboy Jack Clement. Kris was still in the army, he took a weeks leave. His platoon leader, was the nephew of Mary John Wilken. That's what his connection was.
Great interview.. but if you get a chance, check out the atrocious CC..( closed captions)..!!! Totally unfair to deaf viewers..!!!! Worst I’ve ever seen…!!!
What's your favorite Kris Kristofferson song?
Hey buddy, “Sunday Morning Coming Down”.
“Why me” from “Jesus was a Capricorn” Thank Otis!
Too many to name.
Help me make it through the night.
So many. Loving Her Was Easier is one.

I'd sure like to hear the rest of this story.
I agree, I would be happy to hear that story, cause a Star is born, with Kris and Barbara in the lead roles, is such a great movie.
@@twoshirtman7096 Loved that movie. Used to walk downtown to rent it every now and then.

🎶I’m not tired. Or bored. 😊 Arlo Guthrie, Alice’s Restaurant.
Dave Moordigian...do tell !
Kris may very well be the greatest songwriter ever. Any genre of music. So underrated.
So nice to hear Shawn, he’s always so pleasant.I imagine he has lots of Guy/ Verlon songs
Shawn Camp has a great southern smile

Brilliant. From Ireland 🇮🇪
Just another great story! Thanks, Otis!

Hey Otis, I really enjoy the stories Shawn has it’s incredible the people you know❤️. Huge fan
Kris one the very best Nashville writers and that rugged voice. What a legend.
Great show Otis!
Big thanks Otis for another great interview. I do belive that this is video number 200, that you've been posting on your TH-cam Channel. Great job!

The Talleyhoe tavern is mentioned in the song Silver Tongued Devil. Great song!

I Took myself down to the Talley-Ho Tavern to buy me a bottle of beer. Love that song.
I’ve heard him tell how he came up with Jody and the Kid.
I adore Kris. What a song writer!
So many great songs. Impossible to pick just 1 fave:

That is the most beloved song by men I’ve ever heard. Never a guy with dry eyes when that’s played around the campfire, or at a kitchen party.( LBV)

Signed wine bottle that you both shared...that is such a cool idea. That's so nice. If I had that I'd put it behind bulletproof glass haha

Germ lol, I have not heard that for a while
cool
Like I said before Shawn is great story teller and he also looks like a young Strother Martin the warden in cool hand luke
Hey Otis, I just heard Elizabeth Cook play Preacher Steve on Outlaw County - I loved it 👍
The Highwayman sounds like a trail of wine bottles....lol

The Mike Curb Congregation performances from the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour have to been to be appreciated and they're all archived on youtube.

I love old brother Chris he is a Army ranger
Why me
I saw Chris in late 70s. Worst show ever. He was so drunk he couldn't find the piano.. Rita Coolidge was great though
Another great story.
I saw Kris live in concert. He mentioned the story of meeting Cowboy Jack Clement. Kris was still in the army, he took a weeks leave. His platoon leader, was the nephew of Mary John Wilken. That's what his connection was.
