Had the pleasure of studying with Brian and Andy McGann at Fred Lail and Mary's home in Greensboro in 1998. A truly incredible player descended from the tradition of Michael Coleman.
Brian Conway is fantastic. Sounds like he got all his tunes here off recordings of Sean McGuire in the 1960's. He used to play those tunes in London. More or less the same variations too. McGuire was a genius. His music went to pot in the 70's though, bow bouncing and glissandos. Just inappropriate. Brian's playing is a little sweeter, more solid, without the hint of madness that made McGuire, at his best, mesmerising.
This is great playing & reminds me of listening as a child to an old 78 recording of Michael Coleman.
