Borrowing books from a friend, one of those curbside little library 'birdhouses' if there are some in your area, or of course the public library would all be non-buying options for books

Check out your local library!! A lot of libraries also offer applications where you can borrow e-books and audiobooks.

I'm 3 months into my no buy year- clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty products, I will only buy replacement beauty products and underwear IF needed. This is much easier than I thought as I've learned so much about myself & society doing this. I've been selling pieces which has become a fun lighthearted obsession! I'm also only purchasing one household item if needed, once a month. Emotionally, you have to be ready for this, this is not necessarily a cold turkey thing, It really should be carefully thought through. I tried last year and failed miserably at week one, simply because there were things I actually did need. So instead of no buy, I did slow buy and exchange. So if I purchase something, I donated or sold another item or two.

I totally agree you need to be “ready” to commit to a full year. It took me ages to finally do it, even though I’ve been thinking about it for years. It sounds like you have some great shopping habits in place 😊

I had a shopping problem my whole life and this year I have replaced shopping with thrifting and actually I have more fun with my clothing now anyway, best wishes

That’s amazing!! It can be so much more fun to thrift shop, I did that too when I first did one year of not buying anything new. Xx

I love personal development books too and always have a novel on the go too. I’ve become a regular visitor to my local library 📚

I think books shouldn’t be included in the no buy, unless you have other easy way of getting them.

I have lots of unread or unfinished books, that’s why I included them 😊 but I also intend to join my local library! Because I definitely still want to read as much as I can x

I’m a new subscriber! Can’t believe you never showed up in my feed before. My neighbor takes my old candle containers as she makes her own candles and thus reuses my glass jars. You might be able to find someone like that on free cycle. I’ve kept a few jars for succulents, pens, makeup and perfume samples. In fact I’ve only bought voluspa candles for the purpose of repurposing the pretty container.
I borrow my audiobooks from the library.
I know this is a no buy video but by any chance is your sweater still available? It’s such a hard to find color.

Thanks lovely!! Yes I have quite a collection of makeup brush holders and pen holders now from my nicer candle jars too!

Please don’t misunderstand me ❤ I think in general it is a great video and great points - some of them I will consider myself - but please do allow yourself new shoes 👟 ❤ I think they are way to ruined and I don’t think you would come across as a person breaking your shopping ban if you actually need to replace your shoes ❤ off course this is totally up to you so I hope you don’t mind my opinion or think I am rude but I just really think it’s valid to replace them. ❤😊

If they were my only shoes I’d be more concerned about replacing them but I have a few other pairs I wear quite often. ♥️😊

I've been doing no spend low spend this is my 7th year, I buy replacement necessary personal care items if I need to replace skin care those are usually items that my family will gift me for birthdays and Christmas. I cannot remember when I last ate out or bought a coffee, The key is not to use shopping as something to do because you are bored or as a release or keep out of shops where you know you are likely to spend .I think that maybe people who are overspending are overlooking the root of their emotional spending, where is the feeling of lack or need that they feel if they had that thing their life would be better in someway? there will always be something we either want or need its making the distinction ,pausing delaying the impulse to spend usually you find you didn't really want or need that thing at all .

Wow 7 years! That’s incredible! It’s so true, shopping is an emotional game, I know for me it’s a “treat” or a “pick me up” if I’ve had a good day or a bad day. I’ve just stayed our shops too, like you mentioned. I think with practice it gets easier to even go into the shop, see the thing, and still say no xx

I’m not buying clothes, I have too many. I’m keeping a log of what I wear every day. I’m not buying art supplies. I am an artist but have a lot of materials already so I can wait until I’ve used some completely. I sold a lot of books through an app in the UK and cleared a lot of space. It’s so much cleaner now I only have books I’m interested in and they fit in the bookcases with doors so they’re not on open shelves anymore

That’s great that you’re logging all your outfits! I started that but then the habit slipped. Art supplies is such a fun one to buy for me; but I like the idea of only replacing things instead of buying more new supplies xx

When it comes to books…have you gone to a library?

    • @gemmaamclean
      @gemmaamclean  หลายเดือนก่อน

@@disney.daze.55 I used to go to a library all the time when I lived in my last flat. Since I moved I haven’t joined my local library still! But I know I need to x
