    I've wondered for decades why no one does this on wood snare drums. So glad to see it finally exists!

    I believe the 8x14 avocado burst snare I got from you a few months back has the infinite snare bed. Love it.

    What a concept. Looking for a new snare drum, and your snare drums have broadly peaked my interest.
    Great job, Josh 👍👍

    This is so cool! Tought me a lot about the properties of Mylar. It's actually really simple but I never tought of it before. I think I'm gonna try and use this concept on a future 12x14" 'snom' conversion.

    I used this style snare bed for years on my home builds. I was meticulously sanding them in by hand. It would have been nice to have a machine to do it for me.

    This is incredibly interesting... From what I can tell, it looks like the Infinite Snare bed benefits lower tunings, and fits with pretty much any set of snare wires. Am I missing anything else? I'm loving what I'm seeing.

    Hey look, the first high-tuned snare that I've liked the sound of in isolation on video! That medium tuning was premium, though.

    Maybe I'm missing something....maybe its the recording....I'm not hearing a good snare sound. For great response from your wires, the snare side has to be tight. And how does the bottom rim conform to that oddly shaped bearing edge. The conventional snare bed still does its job just fine. If it aint broke...

    • @IndependentDrumLab
      @IndependentDrumLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Conventional snare beds work fine if you are looking for conventional snare sound, with your snare head tight. This snare does that, but also offers a lot of other options. A lot of drummers are looking for fatter, deeper tones that other snares just can't do. The Infinite Snare Bed is only 1/8" deep, which is fairly shallow compared to a lot of snare beds, so no problem getting the hoop to conform (you can see in the video the head is seated under finger tension!)

    Love the innovation! I happen not to have noticeable snare beds on my PDP Concept Maple stock snare. I am considering cutting them homemade, but I am not sure if it is safe to do.

      My advice is don't cut it unless it is an extra snare drum that you don't care if it gets ruined.

    Can we expect to see a factory curved die cast snare side hoop?

    You could use a heat gun to get rid of wrinkles at lower tensions on standard beds, but who wants to deal with that?🤷‍♂

    Which hoop hoop option are you using on the demo snare?

    • @IndependentDrumLab
      @IndependentDrumLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This snare used the standard 2.3mm Steel Triple flanged hoops.

    Uh . . . Have a look at the very gradual bed slope that Ludwig has been using for many decades.

    • @IndependentDrumLab

      Quite familiar with Ludwigs snare bed! (I was in charge of product development there for 5 years). This takes that a bit further- smooth curve around 100% of the shell, no flat area. It makes it easier to tune and gives a bigger tuning range.

  • @alanduncan1980
    @alanduncan1980 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is nothing new. Ludwig have been doing this since the 60s with their "acoustiperfect" snare bed. ie. Supra-Phonic snare bed.

    • @jcw91371
      @jcw91371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But were they doing it on wood? Don't get me wrong; I'm a major Ludwig fan. I've been using their snares exclusively now for over 40 years. Hell, Josh even worked for them and executed a MUCH-needed overhaul on both the kit and accessory hardware.
      It shouldn't have taken Ludwig 8 million years to develop a 2-leg hi-hat stand and a scientifically sound tom holder that didn't slide all over the place (that 70's "field goal" garbage that was finally removed from the pro line and unceremoniously dumped onto my first set in the 80's (Rockers), pierce the shell with a 7/8" hole and supported by blocky, clunky insert mounts (Modular), or provide a legitimate alternative to RIMS systems (Vibrabands).
      But, that's just how they roll. And they're damned lucky that their name and legacy allowed them to weather those horrific, out of round shell builds they were cranking out from the dawn of the 70's until the mid 90's. Thank God they took the clue from getting their asses whipped by the established and emerging custom shops as well as all of the "mom and pop" drum shops that were slapping hardware on Keller maple and selling it for less than the Ludwig "intermediate/working drummer"-kits.
      They finally got it together though and now they can truly compete in the market again with a diverse and great sounding pro line AS WELL as a name.
      Finally, I'm grateful that there are builders like Josh who are committed to pushing the boundaries and developing MEANINGFUL, scientific technologies and mods in the name of great sound.

    A snarebed is useless as there are 2 gaps on the reso side betw. head and shell. Tensioned wires are bent upward in the middle of the head which hampers the vibration of the reso.
    I always used parallel-/Rogers-frame or semi parallel like Ludwig and others offer.
