@@chuckfisher2106 Thank you very much. They're fairly common items for old tool dealers. I use it when I have to beat something with a hammer. A regular bench vise will eventually crack with that kind of use.
Excellent restoration, right now I am restoring a Columbia leg vice and I am looking for ideas, I liked your video but I don't speak English, (I use the translator), I had a doubt, at some point did you talk about why you don't have the spring? I imagine that at this time you already put it on, greetings from Mexico City.
Greetings from Baton Rouge. This vise does not have a spring. I don't think it ever had one. The moving jaw opens by force of gravity, so a spring is not needed.
Nice job of cleaning up an old leg vise. There are many methods of making free-standing, but portable supports for them. Mine is on an old tire rim and works very well. Large brake drums also work well. I was wondering if you know where to get a replacement wear ring - mine has a collection of washers which work, but are pretty unsightly. Thanks for the video. Might need to get a jug of Evapo-Rust in the near future.
Thank you. I considered about a dozen options before I decided on the bench fixture. I needed something that could be tucked out of the way when not in use. Your best option is to have a ring made. It would be a fairly simple job on the lathe. The ring on the nut has a key, which could be built up with a welding bead and then ground to shape.
I loved this restoration, you did a good job👍
Thank you very much.
@@BronZeage You are welcome!
A beautiful restoration. I'd love to find one of those but don't know that I'd ever have a use for it.
