I'm right there with ya on the DR, been working on 1st gear non clutch slow wheelies. A thing that really helped me was adding a "steak". what I mean by this is I tossed a small forearm sized stick in the field and told my self I will wheelie over "THIS!". It really improved my control.
Oh something else, try standing, I haven't done them sitting like you, but you can get a lot more suspension compression if you use them legs too! This doesn't wear out your arms as quick. I kinda do like a dip > up> {throttle}> lean back.
I really like that stick idea, I'm going to have to try that next time! Also good idea on learning wheelies standing up, I feel like that'd be more practical when it comes to real world scenarios off road when trying to get over things. Thanks!
Thanks! It really is a lot harder than the other guys make it look. Definitely one of those things you just need hours and hours of practice to get just right
@@mtnmotoadv I am not an adrenaline junky so when I hear people's advice like " just cover the back brake and send it" I just shake my head😅 When you practice next time, hit the back brake when the wheel pops up so it slams back down, over and over until it's muscle memory. Once that happens, seeing an obstacle you have to wheelie over makes you smile 😁
I'm looking forward to the day wheelies become second nature, there've been quite a few times I've had to turn around due to an obstacle that otherwise would easily passable if I could've popped just my front wheel over it
Smiled through this entire video. Good job putting in the work! Tired of waiting for a CRF300L, found a DR350SE on CL for half the money, might go buy it. Research led me here, subscribed~🙂👍🏻
In the same place as you are in this vid. Have you made progress? - I can wheelie on a bicycle all day but noticed with more throttle, I pick up too much speed. On a 450, the wheel would pop up so easily! In comparison this is hard work.
I recently swapped my front sprocket out from a 15 to a 14 with a 39 in the rear, and now the front pops up waaay easier. I was surprised what a difference just one tooth up front could make
I've tried them on dirt but I have such an easier time getting the traction on pavement to get the front up. Whenever i try it off road the back wheel just spins for me
@@mtnmotoadv yea that happens to me sometimes. My wheelies are about like yours so I can't give any advice. But nice to see others are in the same boat as me.
Yep 1st gear, I have pretty tall street gearing (15/39). Not sure the RPM's though cause no tachometer on this bike. I give the handlebar a slight tug but it's mostly in the clutch and throttle. It really takes a lot of practice to get down
Learn on dirt.. nice grassy field.. Your fear and anticipation are killing your chance of success. You may drop it.. if you are afraid of that… stunts( even wheelies) are not for you.

I’m impressed, you are making quick progress here! I’m failing to get more than a couple of inches, you’ve inspired me to try harder!

Good progress...! And so authentical! :-)
What type of front fender is on your DR?
Polisport fender for the RM250! Thanks for watching!
It's 4 months later....can you do slow wheelies now?
I actually haven't practiced since this video, I have recently been wanting to do a part II though! Will probably be one of my next few vids

I've been working on my wheelies as well. have. 98 DR 350.. However, I do it on grass.. I'm to much of a sissy to try it on the road.

Man my Dr dead on yours mine is older 94 but looks just like yours
Hey I also have a DR350. Have you been at 1 Gear and how many rpm did you have? Did you actually pulled the handlebar up or just with gas and clutch?

Stop being scared if the throttle. Cover your rear brake and send it.
I know it's just intimidating! haha thanks for watching
:-) I will look the same I guess
Learning wheelies is a lot tougher than I expected it to be
