Sadly that's often the story with birds as they require a lot more attention and have a lot of needs every day. We have now owned Audi for seven years. She is still the same happy go lucky sweet natured bird as she was from the first day that I brought her home. She has never bitten me she knows many words and phrases and songs, she loves music , she's crazy about music! We live in a different house since 2010 and I purchased her a massive condo cage that would easily house two Amazon parents. I had the DNA testing done years back to verify her female status. She gets annual physical exams by an excellent avian veterinarian and is very healthy. We all love her very much including our dogs and she mimics their voices perfectly also our cats, she has fooled me many times with thinking that the cat is out in the glass sunroom where her cage is. Having Audi enriches my life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I "adopted" my BFA in 2008 - he was severely emotionally damaged and a biter. And when a BFA bites, they draw blood. But here we are in 2014 and I can handle him reasonably well. He hasn't bitten for over a year now, and loves to be close to me. He talks a little, but he has the most hilarious laugh and great timing with it too. Time and Patience - oh, and FOOD .... that works great. Don't think he'll be as chatty as Audi, but we shall see.

Hi I am planning to adopt a Blue fronted Amazon bird wanted to understand, the vocabulary capacity of the bird as in the the ability to mimic words & their averages life span in captivity if properly nurtured.
They can live 60-80 years. There have been reports of some living to 100+. Ours is 38. I consider them to be the #2 talkers in the parrot world along with Yellow Heads and Yellow Napes. Of the 5 birds we have, our African Grey and our Blue Front out talk all of the others. All of our birds are rescues. Bless your heart for wanting to adopt.
@@sagargaikwad9154 You are most welcome. Just remember:they are a lifelong commitment, but can be one of the most rewarding things that you will ever do.
@pinkdreamer1000 Thank you Audi is my constant companion and she lives for the attention.. she is also very good at self entertaining... I always make sure she has new wooden toys to shred to pieces as well. Birds love to chew wood. Just make sure it is LEAD free.
What's Audi up to these days? I am sitting here, with Amy,my BFA,who I have had now for nearly 30 years, and she is really enjoying watching Audi being so goofy lol. Thanks for sharing!
Tito Herrera honestly I don’t know anything about Macaws, but I can tell you that Blue Front Amazon‘s are amazing birds. If you rescue a Blue Front Amazon don’t rush to touch it or Pet it. I stood in front of a Audi‘s cage for three months and danced and sang. I know I probably stretched it longer than I needed to, but the first time I went to pet her she rested her head against my hand and closed her eyes. I have now had a Audi since 2008, her and I are extremely bonded and I love her so much. Audi has never tried to bite me. I can handle her in any situation, she sort of likes my husband, but will be aggressive towards him and pretend to bite at him. She prefers women, she is extremely friendly, but don’t try to pet her as she really only wants me to touch her. Amazons are definitely one person birds (like most are). Best of luck with your rescue and let me know how it works out for you!!
Yes of course we still have our baby!! She is now into her third year. She is always bringing us such entertainment and joy. But YES parrots are a lot of work, they are very messy and when they reach sexual maturity can become hostile. So far Audi is the sweetest bird ever. She loves attention, and more than anything else she loves MY singing... at least someone does.
The prior owners didn't realize how much work and attention Parrots need. I waited two months before I even attempted to touch her. It paid off and the first time I reach for her she snuggled my hand. She was dying for me to pat her head. I was scared but she has never bitten me. She bites my husband on occasion.. she loves woman, I guess it is a girl thing between us. I also spend the most time taking and singing to her. Sad when birds are placed in home after home. Best of luck with your bird
Very beautiful bird! His talking sounds like a Cockatiel's voice! (used to have a few 'tiels that would sound like that) Wonder if he lived with some 'tiels? Sounds like you also have a cockatiel, as well. It's amusing! Also, my BFA, Kalani, would whistle that same song! I miss her so much. She was lost during a surgery. :(
Hello Steve, in that video you can't see but that room is a screened in patio, you can see in the glass reflection the ceiling fans. We have had Audi now for 5 years and that video of her was taken two days after we adopted her. We love her so much and she knows so many more words and songs now. I uploaded a new video I made, it was dark when I did it but the picture is pretty good, I show you her lovely huge cage ( condo lol ) she has and the sunroom. Check it out It is dated July 6th 2013
No parrot has ever had it so good. Yes, birds when reaching their sexual maturity can become aggressive. BUT though for witnessing many, people that came into that bird store. I saw to many getting rid of them. I worked in a pet store and ran the bird department. The novelty wears off pretty fast. People don't know how to train them to step up, people don't know how to get them to talk. In fact I am going to make a new video of her
Meanwhile they only live to be a hundred! If this is a male, just wait until he turns hormonal at 5 or 6--that's when most people rehome them because their bite can do permanent nerve damage. Not that I don't wish you and your bird the best, but people should visit a rescue and see how many people have turned in their blue fronts. I am fostering a 20-something wild-caught bf btw.
his wings are plucked? I got a blue fronted amazon few days ago, his wings are full.. he steps up, but them flies back to his perch immediately.. he hates being touched.. and he only stays around me if there are some toys.. but in general he like to stay away and prefers not to be touched. Shall I pluck his wings?! or shall I keep it the way it is and just be patient with him till he eventually gets used to the environment and gets used to being touched and all?!
Never pluck your birds feathers, it would be painful and he will resent you for it also, you could pull a blood feather and your bird could bleed very badly, even die from that. You need to learn how to trim their flight feathers, there are plenty of videos on TH-cam demonstrating how this is done or you could take your bird to an avian vet where they will do it for you.
Also, give him time, I never even attempted to touch Audi until I had stood in front of her cage for three months dancing around and singing and talking to her, I build trust so the first time I reached my hand towards her she immediately pushed her head into my hand. This is a very old video, when I first adopted her, I had not touched her yet. I now have Audi for 8 years. I love her so much
Hi so mine has blue and yellow mixed on the top of his (pretty sure it's a him) head, and he only goes on my shoulder, and hates the cage and always escapes it. How do I teach him how to talk and be friendly? Do they like being petted?
Amazon parrots normally love to be petted on their head towards the back of it, they'll normally bend their head down to be scratched there. To get your bird to speak you need to interact with them a lot, figure out if they prefer music over speaking and sing to them, you don't have to have a good singing voice they don't know the difference. What really worked for me was playing TH-cam videos of other Amazon parrots. I would play the same video over and over and over again, then Audi would surprise me by picking up a few words, and then memorizing the entire video. Best of luck, your patience will be rewarded in time. You have to bond with your bird, trust is absolutely essential.
Don't buy an Amazon (unless you're fully committed). You have NO idea of how much time it takes to care for it and how much trouble it can get into. I know. I had a blue front amazon from more than 38 years.
@popkamama The cost of a bird like this is small compared to the amount of time and effort that is needed maintain and teach it. Parrots are a very high maintenance pet. If you are serious about getting one and realize that they are huge amounts of work for the enjoyment of owning one. I think at a breeder you can get a nice one for around 500.00.

I have a question are all BFAs temperamental or is it just mine? sometimes Colbert is nice but other times he gets cranky for no reason and starts to bite people.
shianne brown , pepi da Amazon loves to bite, especially on shoes, hats, and gloves. Always have to make sure you don't bring hand or face too close too quick, and must be extra careful around guests and animals. Almond in hand is sign of friendship. Sometimes comes on shoulder and allows head rubs when it wants to. Usually don't like touchy touchy, but allows you to come close when it wants to. I don't like put a blanket over the cage and leave door open. Didn't clip it's wings and don't like to make pepi act like a human. Helps to be vegetarian and not have carpeting

Great job on the re hab!!! Just so you know, Amazons do not like being touched from behind, predators get them this way and it is a natural instinct for them to react to it. Audi doesn't like it either so I don't upset her. What I do is put her onto her back on my lap. She loves that. Best of luck with Conan. Audi is doing great. I should post some new videos, she has the most amazing condo cage now. It is really for 2 birds but we took out the center divider for her.
hello this is jason and gregg our 4 year oldasper amazon and us were watching your amazon and casper my amazon took off and stood right in front of the screen on laptop. If you wanted to be penpals let us know we can share more videos and pictures. Jason and Gregg
@ToshAroundMac Don't buy one from a pet store ( shame on me since I work in one) I am just saying that there are plenty of rescues available at all times. My bird was a rescue and she is the sweetest girl now at 5 years old. I got her at 2 years old for free with a cage. I have since purchased her a cage that is more like a condo for her lol. Best of luck.
I have a background of birds and hand feeding them since I was working running a huge bird department. Audi was brought to us by some people that had adopted her and had 0 clue what THEY were doing. Audi loves us and her monster size double bird cage, we took out the center divider so she has the entire cage to herself with natural driftwood perches.
@yvonneost12 A real shame they are so expensive. They also cost well over $1000 in Québec. I would love to adopt a blue-fronted amazon. They require alot of attention and care, and I have alot of attention and love to give. ^^
Thanks Dontgetshocked and grannydeb, I really enjoy Audie, she is a delight to many. I plan on posting a lot more videos of her soon. I hope to capture her doing her Menino ( another blue front sadly deceased) impersonation. She can do his entire video I just have not been able to capture it on video yet. She also has learned a lot more words since I got her. Stay tuned for more of Audie soon!!!
What happened to yours? We now have had Audi for 7 years and we love her very much, she is an awesome bid and has a really great personalty and loves music very much. She loves when I sing even though I can't sing very well.
Audi gets a pellet diet, I use rowdy bush maintenance diet and California blend. I also feed already pretty much everything that we eat. She loves whole-wheat pasta and brown rice, vegetables and many different fruits, she does not like anything red, she's very suspicious of red for Some reason. Perhaps in the wild most red fruits are poisonous and they instinctively know that. She loves corn and bananas and she loves many dried fruits. We have had Audi for over 7 years now, she is now 9 years old. Sexual maturity did not change her personality at all, she knows way more words now and songs and has never bitten me. In this video I had only had her for three days it took me three months before I had the courage to try to touch her, when I reached my hand out she rested her head against my hand. We have been closely bonded since the day that I Rescued her. She is the most amazing friend.
I have a DYHA named Susie Q the best Amazon in the world not much of a talker since my Mother passed away. But anyone can handle her even kids she almost never bites
Yes, I'd recommend the blue front amazon. An African grey is a great talker, but typically a one person bird. Much less friendly to others than the amazon.
Please screen in that porch. Even birds with 'clipped' wings can get into a lot of trouble, very fast if something startles them. They are like 'perpetual toddlers' and need constant supervision. Please think in terms of 'bird first'....
Kilo just loves her! I heard you say "he" in this video, but I guess you had a DNA test done since? I am not surprised that Audi is a girl! And yes, Kilo really wants to impress her! Every day he watches her he perks right up!
People do NOT realize how messy they can be and how they can pick up horrible habits very fast. I continually stimulate her mind and keep her busy. She gets new toys ALOT as Amazon's love to chew wood. Her fav thing is to watch youtube videos of other BF amazons that seem to develop crushes on her.
@pinkdreamer1000 As long as her toys are natural wood with NO paint on them I would say they are lead free. Birds LOVE to chew on wood, it has nothing to do with you're texting or her jealously of it. She has no clue you are texting, I wish they would be that smart. If her toys are painted make sure that the paint is lead free and you should have no problems.... Audi loves colored painted toys and she chews them right up.
@Ashbionic, Before you make this investment read EVERYTHING you can about Amazons. Do not rush into getting a bird. YES, all birds are a lot of work and they do make a huge mess. They create a lot of bird poop and they like to shred things up for entertainment. They can learn bad habits too. The food can be expensive for them. I strongly suggest for you to read and go to a bird avery and ask more questions. If you get one, get a baby that has NO bad habits to start with.
I got one of these guys as a rescue.. he wasn't taken care of very well so he doesn't talk much.. he's older but will live a good life the rest of his days.. it's so interesting to see what he's capable of if I spend lots of time with him.. he now gives kisses, when I got him I couldn't even pet him he was scared.. but he's so sweet!!!

@ cristina, Audi LOVES when Andrew sings or when I play Andrew's music.
She gets very exctied.
I Love Amazon Birds They are so Wonderful I'm trying to find My Mom one
@mwaldow1 Thank you so much.
Audi is three years old.
I will check out your bird videos.
Really? You know that was the FIRST DAY we owned her back in 2008, you should see her now. Please do NOT be so fast to judge and be a hater.
Yall still in royal palm? I have a 38 year old Amazon mealy I’m looking for a female for my male
Blue fronted Amazon l had one she lived 45 years l now own a yellow nape Amazon and a umbrella cockatoo
pretty bird😸
Nice one
LOL smeethers, I never noticed that.
LOL@ Cristina, I will show Audi Andrew's cover and see what she thinks.
he is still alive right..
Kendi güzelliğinin farkındamıdır acaba 🐦🐥🐦🐥🐦🐥
He is pretty.
You are a pretty Bird! You whistle good also! What's Up with you pretty Bird?😁
I was looking for an older rescue after mine died from cancer after 38+ years and having been successful in finding one.
Thanks Dontgetshocked and grannydeb,
I really enjoy Audie, she is a delight to many. I plan on posting a lot more videos of her soon.
I hope to capture her doing her Menino ( another blue front sadly deceased) impersonation. She can do his entire video I just have not been able to capture it on video yet.
She also has learned a lot more words since I got her. Stay tuned for more of Audie soon!!!
wow you're so lucky my blue fronted amazon at day 2 would only bite and wanted nothing to do with me
What happened to yours?
We now have had Audi for 7 years and we love her very much, she is an awesome bid and has a really great personalty and loves music very much. She loves when I sing even though I can't sing very well.
so u responded to yourself?
I have a bird like this his name is Roman :)
what do u feed him?
@@sunkissedbeach Red is the color of aggression. Notice their shoulder colors (red) which they'll pull out as a warning.
Esse papagaio é mais esperto que eu já sabe falar inglês fluentemente e eu ainda estou aprendendo o "good morning"....rsrsrs
I have a DYHA named Susie Q the best Amazon in the world not much of a talker since my Mother passed away. But anyone can handle her even kids she almost never bites
I'm having trouble deciding between this or an African grey:/ can anybody help?
Yes, I'd recommend the blue front amazon. An African grey is a great talker, but typically a one person bird. Much less friendly to others than the amazon.
Please screen in that porch. Even birds with 'clipped' wings can get into a lot of trouble, very fast if something startles them. They are like 'perpetual toddlers' and need constant supervision. Please think in terms of 'bird first'....
> BRASIL HAS THE BEST BIRDS
We found out that Audi is a female, we had her DNA tested.
I am planning on making more videos of her as she says so much more now than before.
Her fav thing is to watch youtube videos of other BF amazons that seem to develop crushes on her.
,u. ,.u., a, .?Op. N N…drrfl
LOVE Y'ALL CAN Y'ALL WHISTLE FOR ME!
Love!
LOVE U SISTER LOVE TO HERE WHISTLING!
Now i see how a 2 year old bird looks like.
Would you believe that mine is older than i am?
You can see him on my channel
Why is my Amazon not this active and crazy!?
What is the age of your bird? Is it male or female?
cute !
I have Amazon parrot
@sunkissedbeach AUDI'S CANNABLISTIC!!
Swettt 👏👌
@LexerJ99 YES
i also live in west palm beach fl and have the same bird my bird name is baby
@Ashbionic,
Before you make this investment read EVERYTHING you can about Amazons.
When I get my pretty bird I'm going to teach it to say
pest control
Pest control
Pest control
thanks :)

@ab110795 Thank you so much, Audi thanks you too.
