You can turn off voidwalkers if you get positive rep with the knives of elyis, all you need to do is the ship events like 4 times and then voidwalkers wont come for you anymore.
Yes, I did get a positive rep with the knives of elyis. However I was considered a villian to the main authority and the ministry so that's probably why i had them..but..It's not really the voidwalkers nessasarily that made me upset it was just the fact I launched into the Mariana Trench and was crushed underneath a planets weight
