that's ridiculous. poitras is the same size as bobby orr when he came up at 18 years old. the difference was orr could play and poitras is a one dimensional defensive train wreck. he is so bad defensively that his offensive skills cannot make up for those liabilities. also, he's going to get killed if he doesn't learn to keep his head up.

yea the team needs to make changes. Freddy needs to be moved. Can't trade 1sts. Gotta make playoffs or Don might lose his job so i'd expect something

Charlie McAvoy takes way too many unnecessary penalties 😮. He shouldn't be wearing the A on his sweater!

Why are the Bruins being this up and down team such a shocker to far too much of this fan base still?
News Flash. The Bruins have been basically a .500 team that's had a bad power play and whose been lousy at 5x5 offensively for a year now
January - May of 2024 they played .500 and the power play and the 5x5 offense stunk (also below .500 vs the league's playoff teams January-May last year)
October - January 2025 they've played around .500 most of the year and both the power play and the 5x5 offense stink once again (They have also failed to play even .500 versus the NHL's playoff teams)
The Bruins don't stink. They're still a playoff team because the roster still has more talent than half of the teams and the east and then there's this:
DET MTL BUF NYR PHI PIT OTT PHI, NYI CLB and PIT all stink and even one of those dumpster fires is going to make the playoffs in the East, thus Boston is making it too unless they have a complete collapse and or choose to sell off AND Ottawa continues to play well
Seems like it's a fete complete that Boston is going to make the playoffs
The Bruins under Sacco have regained their defensive structure and most nights, the goaltending had been better, as has the penalty killing
    What hasn't changed?
The Bruins lack scoring talent at forward.
It's why the 5x5 offense and the power play stunk January - May last year and it's the reason why the 5x5 offense and the power play still stink despite the team playing better defense and the goaltending and PK being better
The defense and PK being better is more about effort and execution
More scoring chances can be generated by better effort and execution as well but TALENT still has to convert those chances and this is where Boston is SCREWED!!!!
Further proof this is the issue?
The Boston Bruins 5x5 High Danger Chance Metrics are actually good.
Which means they're generating a decent amount of HDCFs even if their shot totals for the entire game tend to be on the lower side of things most nights
What they can't do is convert on those chances because they simply lack the scoring talent to do so
Their 1C is Elias Lindholm. A good two-way 2C ,that is about a 50-65 point guy. He's not pure offensive guy
Their 2C is, who knows? Coyle is not a natural goal scorer or a set up man. He's a good, two way 3C. Zacha is super inconsistent with his effort, he's soft, streaky with offense and like Coyle, he's been absolute trash in the post season
    Morgan Geekie is their 1LW
Justin Brazeau and or a waiver wired Oliver Wahlstrom are the Top 6 most nights as well
    See the problem yet?
The Bruins don't have dominant offensive centers in their Top 6 and every night they are also icing two or three players that don't belong in any real Cup contenders Top 6
This is what a scoring talent at forward problem looks like, it's called the Boston Bruins lineup
They lack the assets to trade for any legit scoring options and Sweeney shouldn't be allowed to piss away more assets trying to save his job and ass anyway
Sell off guys like Trent Frederic and or Charlie Coyle if you can find takers. Bring up a few of the kids. Get some playoff experience for the younger guys while adding assets for next year
That's the path they should be following because nothing is going to change their fortunes drastically this year
The Bruins are a bottom seed playoff team that would be lucky to both go .500 vs the NHL's playoff teams or even win a game or two in their 1st round series later this Spring
It is what it is at this point.
But add a few picks or prospects, free of some Cap Space and have a good offseason this summer and Boston could easily be right back to being legit Cup Contenders
Don Sweeney shouldn't be the guy helming that and a New GM that will bring in his new front office and coaching staff should lead that new path but.......
The Bruins will probably play .650 or better vs the NHL's average to bad teams but they'll still have bad losses to them (see Columbus and Pittsburgh) from time to time too
The Bruins will also probably play .500 or below vs the NHL's playoff caliber teams but they will have a dominate game against one of them once in a while too (see the Washington game)
This is what inconsistency and a flawed NHL roster looks like.
    Win a few
    Lose. a few
Rinse. Repeat until May and the Bruins fail to win more than one playoff round for 9 out of the last 10 years
Because if this Bruins team is the one to win their first 2nd round series since 2019 (and their only 2nd round series win under Don Sweeney)
That'd be straight up shocking at this point considering this team's scoring flaws, their crap farm system and the fact they lack the assets to do much about it this season
