I mean he hasn’t earned 10 million, but he’s worth more than 5 million lmao there’s guys making 5 million who are fringe starters, or are just point blank bad lmao, you need to maybe look at how contracts and negotiations work in a sport that’s growing and know the cap is going up 8 million isn’t going to be very much against the cap in 2-3 years plus the goalies coming after him will clear 10. He’s worth a hell of a lot more than 5 though man lol I don’t want him to play 65 games play him 55-58 let the backup do his job and play 25 games or so, and we have a well rested goalie come playoffs

I’ve watched him play in the ahl he has promise but if they throw him in there rn, I fear his career will spiral, he’s like 2-3 years away still from being a backup/tandem goalie, he’s good but he needs to keep developing, I’m sure he could come in and play good on the other side of it but if that’s the case we loaded up in FA and are projecting big things from some rookies, for a team that’ll get bounced in the first round definitely a rough spot

Lol I mean 10 million is too much lol but go look at mcavoys grade from pro hockey focus, the only dman who are ever ahead of him are fox and makar, and 9.5 isn’t that much for a number one dman, he’s a top 5-7 dman in the league lol idc about 75-80 points he gets 50, hits and plays good 2 way game, even nhl lists usually have chucky right after makar and fox and maybe Hughes now that he just won the Norris. But I mean even say they gave him the 10 million 19.5/88 is kinda gross 19.5/101 isn’t that bad which is what it’ll be in maybe 3 years or so you’ll probably see a 3.5-4.5 rise in cap each year. If they sign him to a cheaper deal say 3-4x6.5-7 in 4 years if he plays lights out he will be the highest paid goalie in the nhl and will be in a worse boat because shesty and otter probably want 10-11 per year, if sway lights up the league for 3-4 years he’ll want 11-12, which is even worse, I kinda would like to meet in the middle let’s get him at 7.5-8 for 6-8 years and for the most part next 5 years or so our d core is set in place minus peeke, and our top 6, 4/6 guys are locked up for minimum 3 years bottom 6 is pretty well stacked with guys who play those positions really well, so locking up the cap isn’t that big of a deal like I said it’s going up but I also don’t want to pay that much for sway so hopefully somebody gives in and hopefully it’s not the bruins

@@user-sg8ld2hp6z When Macavoy was out, Lindholm shined. Imagine one of three goalies currently in the B's system- including Korpi -upping their game in BOS, as many have done. Note: Linus won a Vezina! And that same question would come up: how much to spend on the goalie position? Is that not what moved Linus? If the B's can get it done with Kori and Bussi, should they? Bottom line: who is going to go all Tim Thomas in the playoffs? A full load even had Linus getting hurt for the big show. And Swayman was not the answer. We'll see. Georgii Merkulov was passed over in all seven rounds of the draft in all three years he was draft eligible When you read any recent prospect pool and or farm system profile of the Boston Bruins hardly any of them even mention Merkulov let alone project him as a legitimate NHL player Merkulov is Jack Studnika Part II The first part of that is the Bruins simply don't really have a role and roster spot for him. He's not a Top 6 center. He's not a 4th line guy. Either Coyle or Poitras is far more likely to be the Bruins 3rd line center than Merkulov. Merkulov is also not a wing. The second part of it is Merkulov is nothing but a slow, pace, playmaking center. He's got a decent shot and above average play making ability but that's where the good about Merkulov ends Merkulov lacks NHL size. He lacks NHL speed. He's at the lowest end of average skating wise. He's at best, average defensively and he had to work himself up in PVD for three years to reach an average level of play away from the puck. Merkulov is not aggressive or physical either and the problem with the center thing at the NHL level is that Merkulov isn't particularly good at the faceoff dot either As the Bruins do not have a center role for him and he doesn't have the skill set to play the wing effectively in the NHL (see the lack of size, physicality, aggressiveness and the fact that he's not a very good boards player)...... Where in the Bruins lineup do Bruins homers expect Merkulov to play this upcoming season? Merkulov likely needs to be moved to some west coast team like Utah or a rebuilding team like Ottawa in the East for a draft pick. Merkulov is in the last year of his ELC and he'll be an RFA next year. If they stick him in Providence for another year, why on earth wouldn't he just demand a trade next offseason or even in-season this year? Lindholm Coyle Poitras Kastelic and Beecher will all be under contract still in 2025-26 so where is Merkulov playing center for the Bruins in 25-26? Doesn't' seem like Merkulov has a roster spot in 25-26 either Merkulov will gain nothing by playing another year in the AHL at his age and where he is at as a player in terms of his development and whatever value he may have in the league, will only start going down as well the longer he stays down in the minors As Merkulov possesses limited NHL upside and the Bruins lack a role for him, as again he's not wing, he's not a bottom 6 player and they don't have a Top 6 center or even a third line center role for him (unless Poitras isn't ready but Poitras ceiling is much hither than Merkulov's, so...).... The best thing to do for the organization and probably Merkulov too would be to trade him sooner rather than later if he doesn't make the big club out of camp Right now there doesn't appear to be any path, beyond Poitras not being healthy to start the year, to an NHL job with the Bruins for Merkulov. He'll also turn 25 at the start of the 25-26 season so it's getting to the point where if he's not in the NHL soon, he never will be Merkulov is just another one of these prospects Bruins homers overhype but no little about that has a limited skill set that will likely never have any real impact in Boston and probably not for any other NHL team either. Again, Merkulov's best impact for Boston at this point may be as a throw in, in a larger deal or simply as part of a deal for a mid round draft pick (if they could even get that for Merkulov in a trade) It is what it is

Debrusk Carlo Frederic McAvoy Swayman Lauko Beecher Lohrei Poitras. That’s it!!! Don Sweeney also drafted three other players that have some level of real NHL value with those 58 picks in: -Dan Valdr (career NHL backup / AHL tweener) -Jeremey Lauzon (bottom pair guy / given away by Sweeney in the expansion draft for nothing) -Ryan Lindgren (Top 4 D-Man pissed away in the Matt Belesky salary dump / Rick Nash concussion disaster) Lindgren was the ask by former Bruins interim GM Jeff Gorton to take on “some” of the rest of Belesky’s putrid contract Of the 9 guys that worked out in Boston Debrusk is gone, Lauko is gone and John Beecher’s ceiling is probably a solid, 4th line, PK/Faceoff specialist That leaves Carlo McAvoy Frederic Lohrei Poitras & Swayman A common theme of the guys that panned out is 7 of the 9 were 1st or 2nd round draft picks with only Lauko (being a 3rd round pick) and Swayman (being a 4th round pick) Scream Swayman all you want to but the reality is 90%+ of all NHL starting goalies were either 3rd to 7th round draft picks or unsigned/not drafted UFAs Proof? Just this past 2024 draft. Number of goalies taken in the 1st round? ZERO. 2nd round? Four. Rounds 3-7? NINETEEN!!! As Don Sweeney pissed away a good deal of the Bruins 1st and 2nd round draft picks away chasing playoff chokes or attempting to fix his UFA mistakes, how’s he done in rounds 3-7? Nothing short of DISASTROUS!!! From 2015-2023 the total number of forwards drafted by Sweeney in the 3rd to 7th rounds to play in the NHL? Three guys and this list isn’t full of world beaters -Jacob Lauko- 3rd round. 83 NHL Games. No longer with the team -Oscar Steen- 6th round. 66 NHL Games. No longer in the NHL -Joona Koppanen- 6th round. 5 NHL Games. No longer in the NHL That’s it at forward from rounds 3-7 in ten draft years by Don Sweemey? Lauko, Steen and Koppanen!!! Now tell me again how well Don Sweeney drafts and develops again? It gets even worse on defense as not a single defenseman ever drafted by Don Sweeney since he became GM in 2015 that was drafted in rounds 3 to 7 by him has ever played a single shift in the NHL. NOT ONE!!! Now tell me again how well Don Sweeney drafts and develops again? So since 2015, ten draft years, the total number of NHL defenseman added in rounds 3-7 was ZERO and the forward haul was Lauko, Steen and Koppanen. #terrible On no F.N. planet could this be considered anything less than disastrous drafting and developing results over a ten year span by any NHL GM, Don Sweeney included These results are why the Bruins prospect pool stinks today. Crap drafting and developing has burned them. Outside of 7 guys that were drafted in either the 1st or 2nd round alongside Lauko and Swayman, Don Sweeney hasn’t added anything to the Bruins big club in ten F.N. Draft years THIS IS NOT OPINION. IT IS WHAT HAPPENED. THESE ARE FACTS BRUINS HOMERS!!!! THESE ARE DON SWEENEY’S DRAFT RESULTS!!! Opinions are the land of Bruins homers and the homer driven media guys who still stick to the brainwashing that Don Sweeney has drafted well and that his farm system isn’t that bad Meanwhile back on Planet Earth…. so reality... Don Sweeney added ZERO d-men from rounds 3-7 in ten draft years. The only forwards he added in rounds 3-7 in 10 years were duds in Laudko Steen and Koppanen, none of whom are with the big clug anymore In 58 draft picks over 10 draft years, he’s added a grand total of 9 guys that have impacted the big club on some positive level And before homers and the homer driven media start talking about the state of the Bruins current farm system... At forward beyond Lysell and Letourneau (a boom or bust guy), they have nothing that looks like a sure fire Top 6 forward Every other forward such as Locmelis, Kuntar, Spicer, Duran, Harrison, etc.. are all 3-7 round draft picks with bottom 6 ceilings Don’t tell me these guys are going to turn into something when the guy you say can turn them into something, Don Sweeney, has added a whopping 3 forwards in 10 draft years from rounds 3 to 7 to the NHL, all duds in Lauko, Steen and Koppanen. Also again, Don Sweeney hasn’t drafted a single d-men in 10 draft years in rounds 3 to 7 that has played even a single shift in the NHL to date. Not one!!! So don’t tell me how players like Brunet, Myenberg, Jackson Edward, etc. are going to make it. Based on what? Again, not reality, otherwise known as Don Sweeney’s own draft history as AGAIN, no d-man drafted by Sweeney in 10 draft years in rounds 3 to 7 has ever played in the NHL, EVER!!! So saying Sweeney’s current stable of 3rd - 7th round forwards and or d-men will turn into something? What are you basing that on Bruins homers? It certainly can’t be reality, otherwise known as Don Sweeney’s own draft history in rounds 3 to 7 with Boston as their GM The Bruins Farm System stinks beyond Lysell and Letourneau at forward and neither one of them is considered some kind of can’t miss guy, both are more boom or bust players On defense the Bruins may have some bottom 6 NHL talent in Duran, Spicer, Jellvik, Harrison, etc; but again, these are all late round picks with limited offensive ceilings and or overall NHL upside In goal Michael Dipietro is 25. Brandon Bussi is 26 with ZERO NHL games experience. Swayman is going to sign a long term deal and Korpisalo is on the books for the next four years. Does anyone honestly think Dipietro at 25 and Bussi at 26 respectively have any real futures as starters or even backups in Boston? Sure doesn’t seem that way After those two it’s Philips Svedback in goal, who by all accounts took a step back last year in his development There aren’t opinions here but if you want a qualified one go to Dominic Tiano. Even Joe Haggerty himself seems to take Dom’s opinion very seriously and with quite a bit of respect (rightfully so) @dominictiano on X/Twitter or dom.hockey/ Here’s a spoiler alert, Dom isn’t very high on Boston’s prospect pool. The only forward he thinks that has some small shot at Top 6 potential beyond Lysell or Letourneau is smurf, Oscar Jellvik He doesn’t think there is a Top 4 defender in their farm system He doesn’t like their goaltending prospects Again, Dom thinks the Bruins current prospect pool stinks as a whole. So does the vast majority of the outlets and services that rank NHL farm systems as Boston's is universally ranked 28th to 32nd EVERYWHERE for a reason, it doesn't possess a whole lot of NHL upside Yes, Sweneey hasn't drafted much in the 1st or 2nd round. Neither did Tampa Bay from 2015-2023. Tampa's farm system stinks today too The difference? From 2015-2023 Tampa won 3 Cups, went to 4 Finals and played in 6. ECFS Boston from 2015-2023 failed to win more than 1 playoff round 8 of 9 years and won one lousy 2nd round series in a decade. Now do you see the difference They didn't win with the moves Sweeney made that pissed that high draft capital away and Don Sweeney has made that lack of high draft capital and not winning sting even more because his drafting in rounds 3 to 7 has yielded nothing of value beyond Jeremey Swayman and if you think hitting on one player in 10 draft years in rounds 3 to 7 is good, you're too lost to be saved anyway No opinions here. Just facts, reality, stats, who Don Sweeney actually drafted, what those results have actually been…. That stuff…. God fobrid we actually criticize Sweeney for these bad crap drafting results the way Bruins homers praise him for all those meaningless regular season wins (while also ignoring the mountain of playoff fails in the process) FACTS > OPINIONS

Lol bro what serviceable goalie is making 4 million I’m dying to know, the cap is going up that’s how things work, look at what WR are getting rn in the NFL, a lot of that is due to pass heavy league and the fact there cap continues to rise, NHL cap is going to be at 104 million in probably 3-4 years, 8 million will be nothing on the cap lol, there is not one goalie in the league making that money that would be able to help a cup contender lol. You sign him get him locked up as the cap goes up his aav doesn’t and maybe in 2 years we have a nice 12-15 million to play with it marchy takes a discount. Can add another piece easily in FA, obviously I’d rather pay him 6-7 which is why there held up swayman wants to sign long term for 8-9 million bruins want that 5-6 year deal at 5.5-7 million range. And ya you’ll say we had ullmark at 4 million…… he’s been linked to signing a 8x8 in Ottawa so I’m sorry but that answer don’t exactly work he’s the only one making that money who’s a solid quality starter.

Joe and I rarely agree but on the topic of Jeremy Swayman's contract, we're in lockstep No position in professional sports falls off a cliff more than that of goalie in the NHL That's not even getting into the fact that Jeremey Swayman hasn't won anything and the only playoff series win under his belt came against the soft, wins a round in the playoffs once ever 50 years, Toronto Maple Leafs. Jeremey Swayman has yet to even play 50 regular NHL season games in a singular season let alone win a 2nd round playoff series. Homers, don't start in, as I agree that Jeremy Swayman looks like a true number one goalie. However, why have the Bruins primarily failed to win in the playoffs under Don Sweeney since 2015? They haven't been big enough, physical enough and they've had to continue to rely on one or two guys scoring in the post season and when those guys went cold, they got torched Defense and goaltending haven't been issues for Boston and they wouldn't be with or without Jeremey Swyaman on their roster Also, let's not forget Don Sweeney's biggest downfall has been overpaying free agents in either money, term or both. The salary cap will continue to go up and even more money will be coming off Boston's books next year. Thus, the last thing the Bruins need to be doing right now is handing out any bad contracts to any player in an effort to keep repeating mistakes Sweeney has made in the past Should Swayman and his agent decide to hold out, the Bruins should just put him on the trade block, to if anything, see what he's worth. If that pivot fails to produce the desired results maybe it'll just bring the agent back to the table at worst or generate a trade offer the Bruins may not be able to refuse from another team Again, I'd rather the Bruins sign Swayman but giving him an 8-10 year deal at $8-$10M right now may not turn out to be the best idea Also, whose to say that Joonas Korpisalo couldn't put up the kind of numbers he's posted in the past? So, in 2022-23 season Korpisalo posted a .913 save% in his 28 starts for Columbus and a .921 save% in his 11 starts for Los Angeles. In the 2019-20 season in his 37 games for Columbus he posted a 2.60 GAA alongside a .911 save% Those aren't elite numbers but with an elite Boston defense team in front of him that also plays good two-way hockey across the board, isn't it at least a possibility that Korpisalo coulc put those kind of save% numbers up for Boston? Fro the record an elite NHL starting goalie save% is considered .920 or above while the average NHL starting goal save% being .904 If Jeremy Swayman could return a legit, young, elite, number 1 center (preferably) or wing and or multiple 1st round draft picks while ALSO HOMERS, refusing to play for Boston unless he gets "X" and nothing less than "X" and that "X" isn't something Boston is willing to do..... Trade Swayman and move on if that scenario comes were to come to fruition. Again, the best case scenario would be that they sign Swayman either to a reasonable bridge or long term contract but if they can't...... It's not as if Jeremy Swayman has proven the Bruins can ride him to a Cup. Swayman has never played more than 44 regular season games and the only playoff series he's ever won was against F.N. Toronto So.... The reality of the situation is before the puck drops in the regular season there's a 99% chance the Bruins would have signed Jeremey Swayman anyway, thus all of this is just white noise for the sake of white noise because the NHL is the dead zone in terms of their off season so lets not forget that
