The Native North Americans in Alaska, British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon, and California would use cedar to prepare their salmon. This preparation goes back a long time. Cedar planked salmon is great. Hardware stores also sell untreated wood, of various types, and they also can cut it for you, and it works great for this particular purpose. Soaking the wooden plank prevents it from quickly burning. You also have a serving platter when it's done. Its the same thing for using wooden skewers, that they need to be soaked in water. That salmon looks great. Cheers, Greg! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
My game changer recipe for salmon. 2:1 parts brown sugar and salt. Dry brine it for a few hours, then grill it. Chefs kiss. Nice video. Salmon is a fav in my household
Hi Greg, it's Mike Florence and WOW what a surprise recipe from you!!! I think you know I'm a seafood chef, backing up my repertoire by watching all your Burger and BBQ recipes. Your cooking method here KNOCKED ME OUT!!! My only suggestion is the dry rub seasoning. I use a mix of Tarragon, Dill, grated Lemon Zest and Black Pepper. I will definitely be cooking this exactly as so clearly explained on my Webber when we get good weather. Cheers Greg for another winner. See Ya, Mike.
Thank you for the tips, and for watching Mike! A kettle grill works great for plank cooking. I usually lay the charcoal down, leaving a gap in the center. Start the cook directly over the coals, then move it to the center.
I'm from th PNW and we had cedar smoked salmon cooked over a live fire at alodge Bainbridge Island for our wedding. Even my wife's New England seafood snob family loved it.
Hey Greg that looked delicious! Had a request I don't remember if you have already done it but have you smoked a whole bologna chub? And make a sandwich with a mustard base BBQ sauce and maybe some coleslaw!
Sounds good! I did make homemade bologna, then smoked it but I didn't do a sandwich on the video. Cool idea! I go to Oklahoma a lot and they love their smoked bologna there!
Great cook..i grill salmon for my daughter often. I just can't handle the taste of any seafood but she loves it so I grill it all for her. I throw me a burger and hot dog on the grill for me.
Sup Greg, I'm one of the people doesn't like salmon, heard of cedar plank salmon, never tried, but looks so good I'm thinking what flavor get🤔, brother loves salmon so will see, damn I'm curious lol. Tyvm tc
Very nice video and I also really like cedar plank salmon. Last year, however, I made flamed salmon for the first time, as they do in Finland. The board with the salmon is placed vertically over a wood fire. We and our family and friends liked that even more. I can really recommend you give this a try 👍👍👍
Looked fabulous. Interesting thing about cedar. It is fairly well known with people who build with Western Red Cedar is the dust is toxic. Yet people char it to cook food.
That's the only way I cook my fish. I buy the cedar planks through Amazon, keep them available for when I need them. But I do the same, let it soak for a couple of hours before hand and then just let it steam. Good job there.
I had a great cedar plank guy I used to buy from who would cut custom sizes. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. I buy from Amazon now as well. Cheers!
This has been very high on my to-try list. You mention getting the grill up to temp and later plenty hit enough. But what temperature is that, what are ya running your grill at?
You want it to be grilling temperatures, so hot. I usually do this on charcoal grills, so you want it to be the same temperature you'd use if cooking a steak.
I don't think it would work on a Blackstone. If you try it, you'd need a dome. Any other grill (gas or charcoal) works great, so long as it has a lid though.
Don’t bother soaking wood, doesn’t do anything. Wood doesn’t absorb water that is why they use it for boats 😉. Meathead has done experiments, check out his book. Otherwise a home run recipe & easy!

4:34 WOW Greg, that is an amazing looking piece of salmon. Nice job! ✌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video, Greg, salmon looks really nice and juicy!
I usually plank on my kettle. The best method to cook salmon by far.
That looks AWESOME Greg!!! Never have tried a cedar plank but this might just make me give it a shot! I've always smoked my salmon. GR8 cook! ~Chris
That looks so good, Greg! I don't like salmon, but I'm trying this.
The color on that filet was top-notch! Thanks, Ballistic!
Looks perfect! Nicely done, Greg!
I'd like to see more fish recipes on this channel. Seared tuna?

👋🏻🤤🇮🇹 Hi Greg‼️ great idea lemon pepper & lemon slices 🏆😉 now I look for where I hid my cedar planks and light the fire 🔥 😂🥂
Did the pellets have any effect on this cook? Thanks for the video.
this video is very awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Love that grill! Looks like it wanted steak instead of fish!
I have heard of this, but have never tried it.
Can you use planks other than cedar? Just wondering.

The LSG is by far the best pellet cooker on the market!
So good my absolute favorite way to cook salmon.👍
You know my current feelings on salmon (and why...lol) but that looked incredible! Wow!
Nice one
I saw a video of yours maybe last month. You suggested Boars Head hotdogs. We're they linked? Also cured or uncured. Thanks

Hoping for another dog, but this looks outstanding!
I love salmon, my favorite fish. Most other fish is so lean.
That salmon turned out really great Greg! Excellent demonstration!
I heard San Diego was floating away. All good with you?
that voice omg!!!!!!

I need this on spotify! I can't find it :(
Wow it's yammi recipe, making process is soo good
Thanks Greg, I’ve never used a cedar plank. I can’t wait to give a try. As always your videos are both informative and entertaining.
Thank you, Paul! Cheers, brother!
I hate fish, but it looks like a great cook. Should I try this??? Hmmm
Looked fabulous. Interesting thing about cedar. It is fairly well known with people who build with Western Red Cedar is the dust is toxic. Yet people char it to cook food.
Gorgeous salmon! Perfectly cooked👍😊
If you like this recipe then give alder wood plank swordfish a try! Same simple seasoning too.
Add a little balsamic glaze, and you're in money!
I love Cedar plank. Keep it simple. Only other way is skin on, on a cast iron pan on the bbq
Can you do this with meats like chicken? Tks
Salmon looked great have you ever soaked the planks in red wine it adds a little extra flavor cheers 🍻
Awesomeness with the salmon. Great cook 8)
Looks amazing.👍
I love some grilled salmon, looks delicious
Thank you, Nathan!
As a salmon fan lemon pepper is all I use.

Hi, looks great! What temp would you figure you’re at in there?
The fish probably temped out at around 145F. I was running the pit in the high 300s.
This has been very high on my to-try list. You mention getting the grill up to temp and later plenty hit enough. But what temperature is that, what are ya running your grill at?
I cranked it up to high 300s-low 400s. I just wanted to get the flame up there in the sear zone.
I don't like fish and I would devour this
We have the same pellet grill and I would like to know what temperature you had the FireBoard controller running at with the burn pot exposed?
I was running up in the high 300s to low 400s. Just wanted to get a good flame up there. Like I was searing a steak or something.
Very nice
What was the grill temp? I think I missed it 😢 Great vid
I was just looking for a good searing heat, so I cranked the grill up to around 375.
Maybe I missed it but what temperature setting did you use on the grill? "Hot" is not a temperature and is subjective.
You want it to be grilling temperatures, so hot. I usually do this on charcoal grills, so you want it to be the same temperature you'd use if cooking a steak.
Greg, is it possible to do this cook on the Blackstone grill or do you need the open flame?
I don't think it would work on a Blackstone. If you try it, you'd need a dome. Any other grill (gas or charcoal) works great, so long as it has a lid though.
Tasty.

Can you do a Papaya Dog copy? I sent an email. Cheers!
I hate salmon. Don't think a piece of wood would change my mind.
Just say NO to salmon. YUK!!!!!!!!!!
