Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
1 Corinthians 1:27 states, "God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise".
The verse continues, "God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong"
The Covenant Renewed at Shechem
V.1 “Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges and officials of Israel and they presented themselves to the Lord.”
Genesis 12, God tells Abraham, “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
V.13, “So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’’
Joshua 24 V. 14-15 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
verse 21 the Israelites confirm their decision, “No! We will serve the Lord.”
Joshua tells them in 23, “Now then, throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
V 25. “On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people and there at Shechem he reaffirmed for them decrees and laws.”
-Shechem is a place of PROMISE.
-Shechem was a place of COMMITMENT. 11-Shechem was a place of SINFULNESS.
-Shechem is a place of WORSHIP.
-Shechem is a place of REST and INHERITANCE.
