The Soul Goals, Episode 11: Laura

Life changed in an instant for Laura and her family when their then 10 year old son, Chase, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of anaplastic large cell lymphoma. A young, vibrant, and active, fun-loving boy and athlete, their family’s world was turned upside down in one phone call from Chase’s doctor after a daunting period of time searching for answers to the symptoms he was experiencing.
Splitting time between hospital stays with their son for his treatment, their older teenage daughter and her activities, and both Laura and her husband’s work, the family worked to juggle not only appointments and treatments but also emotions and necessities. No one prepares you for a diagnosis like their son Chase received, but they worked together to manage life in a very difficult season.
With the diagnosis month of August, 2018 now in their rearview mirror, Chase and his family are working to educate others who are newly diagnosed or in the midst of their own treatment, lending support and love by sharing their own story of resilience and healing. Laura is an advocate for others and has shifted her work life to the important task of educating communities on the importance and the need for continued pediatric cancer research and funding. This sweet family continues to give back to the community that leant so much love to them in their time of need and has learned first hand the gift of never taking a single moment for granted.
