  • I did some fishing with a classic, proven fish catcher: the Rooster Tail. In the beginning of the video, I see how many fish I can catch on a rooster tail in an hour out of a pond, and the rest of the video I show some other recent catches on the Rooster Tail out of creeks and streams.

    Neat challenge. And honestly, if the point is to catch as many fish as you can, giving yourself the ability to catch smaller fish is a smart play. Nice video.

    Everything loves a rooster tail. I caught a channel cat once lol. I think you would caught more if your line didnt break that time. But i was thinking you beat 10 fish easy. Cool video. God bless you and your whole family...🙏❤🙏❤🙏

      It’s funny what lures catfish will eat sometimes. I don’t think I’ve caught one on a rooster tail, but I’ve had them eat curly tail grubs and crankbaits. Thanks for watching!

    My second comment: I've been watching your videos for a while now. Since John sold out. I think you are a young man that has really worked hard..I tried making videos so I have a small idea of how hard it is to get these shots. I'm an old guy 56. I'd love to hear some pointers. Your story and camera angles, tips and tricks.

    The rooster tail isn't ideal for hook sets on largemouth. But, now that we're into September, getting them to strike has become increasingly difficult. In my experience, a 1/4 oz chrome & white works exceptionally well while they're still chasing shad (when nothing else seems to work).

    • @Lycurgus47
      @Lycurgus47 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the small treble hooks aren’t ideal for largemouth but I’ve caught several 5+ pound fish with them, and tens of dozens of smaller fish.

    Try this on your roostertails Gamakatsu Open-Eye Siwash Hook either # 6 or 8. Just clip the treble hook eye be careful not to cut in the Hackle, then put the single hook on and squish the eye closed. Also try white with black spots. I actually have better hookups with the single hooks and the are easier to get unhooked than the trebels also do less mouth damage. The single hook is also stronger than the #12 trebels that usually come on the smaller inline spinners like mepps and roostertails .🛶🛶🛶🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

    This works well on lake catfish, so well, my fly/lure box is filled with yellow rooster tails. Best lure I've ever used.
    1/8 oz yellow rooster tail on 14in of 14lb monofilament to a swivel with 2 #1 splitshot.
    Use it or don't idc

    I want to try the 1 oz Roostertail I recently bought to see if bigger bass hit it. I grew saltwater fishin' in FL but now I'm in NC and learning about bass. I think spotted bass might hit the big Roostertail and I've caught LMB, rainbow and brown trout on smaller spinners. I should try the smaller ones in Lake Norman, I haven't used spinners there yet.
    Anyway that's an impressive catch for a short time. Well done!

  • @enonek2960

    Aaron, question. Were you using a snap swivel or was your line tied directly to the lure?

    • @AaronsOutdoor1
      @AaronsOutdoor1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a snap swivel. If you tie straight to the line you’ll get line twists. I’ve learned that the hard way. Thanks for watching!

    I must be cursed.. or I just suck and fish hate me... so yea, cursed.. but I can't catch anything anywhere ever with rooster tails. I live in south Georgia and fish the Chattahoochee river and a few ponds near me and I could stay out there for hours in the morning, mid-day, evening and NOTHING ever hits them for me. I have yellow, white and black and have tried them all with no luck.
    Do I jig it while I'm reeling it in or just do a slow steady reel in with it? What's the trick? or maybe the fish here just don't like them?
    Same with beetle spins.. no such luck ever. Help!

    • @reganelizabeth5430

      a little late to this comment, but i’m in south ga too & i’ve caught bluegill, bass, & a pretty chunky catfish on rooster tails. for me it’s usually a slow/medium straight retrieve, sometimes fast if they aren’t hitting it slow, just make sure you can feel the blade spinning, & depending on where you cast it you can let it sink a little then start retrieving.

    • @Lycurgus47

      I’ve got many dozens of fish with the rooster tail in south GA (Savannah). Slow steady retrieve near cover tens to work well.

      I’m not totally sure exactly what line I have on there, but it’s 4 pound test monofilament or fluorocarbon. I honestly don’t think I could even name 6 colors, but my two favorite colors are white with a silver blade and fire tiger. Thanks for watching!
