Back when I used to go fishing all the time, I used to have really good luck with a red and black Rooster Tail. It's been long enough ago that I don't remember what weight it was. But it was a bass slayer in my uncle's farm pond.
Love a rooster tail, always catches fish. 1/16-1/6 is fav. Sizes to play. Black, Pink or White. I change out treble hooks with appropriate size siwash hooks, rarely loose a fish only trout when barb is smashed down (Rarely) no other species. And they don't get tangled in tackle box.
I have a bunch of Roostertail’s in various sizes but don’t fish with them that often. White with a silver blade has probably been the best color and I’d go with a 1/16 oz. if I could only have one.
I been fishing for a couple decades and never caught a fish on a rooster tail, but then again, I only have like two of them and they lying around somewhere so it's not the little bastards have been in the water to catch me anything. I think they are overrated lures and not even the best spinners. Mepps is better
@@Brockleejohnson If you really want to catch more carp, I recommend you use leftover pickled pigs feet or the chitlins that be on the stove at big momma's house.
I recently fished with the same 3/8 oz Rooster Tail you used. I managed to catch a bass that was half the size of your first fish, a bass that probably my PB for the small neighborhood lake I was on, and a catfish. I have a buddy that loves using Rooster Tails and I can see why now.
3/8oz white flash is my go to. I’ve emptied the shelves at Walmart a few times when I find them. Late winter through mid spring around here, it’s the hot color when white bass are running.
If u go to where a bunch of bluegills are and use a tiny roostertail, you should catch them on that, if interested in blues. Yellow and gold color works best.
I throw 1/6 ounce Rooster Tails. I switch out the treble with Owner # 4 single hooks. My favorite colors are firetiger/ gold blade, white/ silver blade, and pink, silver blade.
I oftentimes find Rooster Tails to be a little too finicky, like you have to yank them through the current or water just right to get them thumping. That being said, I still throw them in rivers, perfect spinner profile to get down and pull through a current nicely.
Roostertails are my favorite lure. Recently, I've caught a lot on yellow 1/8. And the occasional yellow/green/red 1/8. I've tried quite a few other colors, but only yellow has gotten blue gill, bass (both large and small), and crappies.
@@AaronsOutdoor1 I wish i knew why, but I'm just going with it. In the past (like in the early 1980's) I had a TON of success with rainbow trout with black. This was in the rockies. But now in the mid west, yellow?
i like 1/6 and i have no favorite color but if the water is clear i like to use the color you were using for the first 2 if it isn’t clear i like to use either orange pick or blue
Although I like the Rooster Tail and have caught many, many bass and bream on them, I have to admit a preference to the Mepps Spinner. Pretty much the same but the blacks and yellows in the Mepps seem to do better and the 2 smallest ones work super well on a 7/8 flyrod.
That’s a good one! I caught my biggest rooster tail fish ever after filming this video on that exact one. It’ll be in an upcoming video. Thanks for subscribing!
Great video Aaron. I like the 1/16 oz white and silver but have never tried black but will now. I couldnt tell did those bass have big heads that didnt match the body size? I used to fish a pond that was full of bass with 5lb heads on 2lb bodies. Way over populated. God bless my friend keep it up.
Yeah, white and silver is a good one! And yeah, the bass can definitely seem like their heads are too big when they are so skinny and overpopulated in ponds like this one
I think my local pond has the same problem as yours. Only ever smallish bass all the time and the other day as I was reeling one in I looked up and saw a person in a biohazard suit doing something with the water. Biologist? Idk. But later that day a fisherman told me yeah something's wrong with the pond, he just didn't know what exactly.
Hello ! What are your best two size and what are your best six colors of the wordens rooster tail that you would recommend me to buy for catching crappies and shells crawler and bluegill and red ear and bass please. I will be doing nothing but casting from the bank only with the wordens rooster tails. May the Lord be in your heart today to answer all of my questions and may the Lord bless you and your family and your TH-cam channel in 2024 please 🙏
Definitely get rid of those turtles asap maybe even some cats if you have to many can take a lot of food out if you want more food in the pound and also your repeat yourself a shit ton
My favorite Rooster Tail is the BumbleBee pattern in 1/8 th . Peace Brother 🕊️
Nice video! 1/16 for trout streams. 1/8 for creeks & ponds. Brown trout, black with silver blade, and chartreuse work the best for me.
i like the white 1/8 oz

Never tried red and black, but I may need to sometime. Thanks for watching!
1/4 fire tiger and 1/2 ounce pink glitter is my go to for coho salmon. Awesome video
I’ve caught fish on both of those colors!
The way the rooster tails move in the water is mesmerizing. Fish can’t resist. I like 3/8 black

U can catch Bluegills on tiny roostertails super easy.
yeah white and silver is the way to go I get the most bites on that color
@@Brockleejohnson If you really want to catch more carp, I recommend you use leftover pickled pigs feet or the chitlins that be on the stove at big momma's house.
for me the best is a 1/6th in fire tiger color for multispecies. have caught lots of bass, perch, and bluegill on that lure

I love fishing rooster tails. When bass or if I want to catch a fish. I tie one one. My favorite is silver and black 1-6 - 1/8 is my favorite sizes.

I have actually never had luck with a rooster tail. So, I have no favorite.

Rooster tails is the only thing ive caught on, its all about switching the retrieve speeds and alternating speeds during the retrieve.
@cheese1445 tried that still no luck. :( Tried a few days after my post even. Tried a couple different colors even.
If u go to where a bunch of bluegills are and use a tiny roostertail, you should catch them on that, if interested in blues. Yellow and gold color works best.
Throw in deep holes, and if you think you’re reeling in to slow, reel it even slower. I’ve caught quite a few species on them
catch the turtle and have some soup eh?🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, sometimes they can be a little annoying when they aren’t spinning right, but they still catch a lot of fish!

@@AaronsOutdoor1 nice to hear. Ive always caught something on that color pattern. Its nice to know it works somewhere else to
Try a snagless sally. It’s basically a rooster tail with a single hook instead of a treble hook
You can get those on tackle warehouse
The best one I've found is the trout mimic colors in 1/32nd - 1/16th for some reason they gut the bigger ones might be a skill issue on my part though
Yellow, with black banding
1/8 oz white. Surprisingly I’ve had the most luck on that combo in brackish water.
