Ork Rocks are essentially them just slapping a bunch of guns onto an asteroid, gluing it together with duck tape and just wandering around the void of space aimlessly. Why? Because they're Orks.
They can sort of aim them. Orks are not good space-sailors, they have among the worst Ld in Battlefield Gothic. Making orks reload a torpedo tube or brace for impact is hard. A rok takes a number of booster rockets and piles them together, pointing backwards. Ork ships in BG have all their thrusters wired to a single red button. The rockets are actually worse because they are constantly running out of fuel or wearing out or plain bad, but the ork kaptain can make the All Ahead order free of Ld roll.
And with their weaponized stupidity they also inadvertently made a Commissar by the name of Yarrick immortal and a complete badass Edit: I am now being notified he is dead. A dark terrible day in the Imperium indeed

I think the worst nightmare of the Imperium would be if the Orc re-evolve into Krork. Imagine really, really intelligent Orcs, constructing and wearing power armour much more sophisticated than anything the Astartes have, like the Beast. I've read a theory that this might actually happen now, because the Krork/Ork are developed to be a self-regulating war machine that is always as big as needed. The War in Heaven was the biggest war in existence and would make even the Machine Wars look like a pub brawl, so they needed to be not only strong, but also extremely intelligent. After that, they did not actually devolve, they just... shifted down a gear, because so much power was not needed. The, in comparison to the Krork, relative stupidity, the infighting that starts when there is no strong outside enemy and thus, keeps their numbers at bay - all meant to let that war machine not become too big and dangerous. But since the 'Nids are knocking and the Necron are waking up, they might shift up a gear or two and all of a sudden become those extremely intelligent, even bigger and stronger version again. A version that even has _science_ - and combines that with their Waaagh field and the inherent technical knowledge they have. And not even the God Emperor might know what is all burried in their genetic technomemory.

Once, Gork and Mork were doing their usual stuff, fighting each other and suddendly they stumbled into a cave, where two mighty demons were having an argument. The Twin Ork gods ceased their brawl, and brutally they knocked the demons out, so much so, that one was unconcious and the other pleading for his life. Happy with the result, they left the cave and resumed their fight. The demons's names? Khorne and Nurgle I saw this comment in another video and I loved it

Even with space marines, the price for not feeling pain anymore eventually turns into a lack of feeling although which makes space for a huge void. Orks get smarter/bigger/stronger the more they fight and depending on the enemy. At the time of the Emperor and his Primarch, Ullanor was such a large battle even the Emperor had to fight.
they like fighting just like many of us like eating, if gone without it for long, they "starve" so there is the story of the ork that liked fighting chaos deamons, so he and his crew went into the warp with their shields down for the sole purpose of hunting them
Tuska the daemon killer, rocks up to the eye of terror, invades a khorne planet, have a scrap with daemons, eventually lose but please Khorne so much that he "blesses them" by bringing them back to life to fight all over again, in a never ending cycle of war which makes both sides happy
We have to make one thing clear: Orc weapons are NOT literally just scrapmetal. They have almost all the mechanics and actions of functioning weapons, except for some problems here and there. Like maybe a bolt that is too weak to actually hold the blast of the bullet, but through the orcs belief in its functionality, the bolt holds. But the moment a human tries to use the gun, the bolt breaks. orc belief-magic Is a lot more subtle than „I make a box with a hole and a trigger, put bullets inside and then it shoots.“
I was looking to see if anyone was going to point this out. Thanks. For everyone else: there must be a basis of logic and function for anything to work for orks. Their belief ability simply covers for any shortcomings after that. It doesn't change the rules of reality, it just stretches those rules a bit in the orks favor.
The way I explain it is, if you give an Ork a gun-shaped stick and tell him it's a gun, he'll call you an idiot and then probably beat you to death with the stick. BUT if you give that same Ork a gun that looks to be functional on the outside, but is missing parts on the inside that would cause it to not be able to properly shoot, the gun will still function because the Ork can reasonably believe the gun would function.

Well, if the tyranids are currently invading, well, *any* planet, they win by numbers period, though it's kinda cheating: they have cells that are fully developed Tyranid organisms while Ork spores are not. Smallest Orks are snotlings.

If the planet isn't taken entirely before the next harvest of orknoids crop up, then the cycle merely continues, resulting in an ad infintium number of orks fighting an ad infintium number of tyranids. Forever.
By this logic, if enough Orks found a stick that was shaped somewhat like a gun, that stick would now work like a gun, and therefore are just big angry toddlers
There have been a number of attempts at WH40K TV or movie adaptations, but so far they've all kind of sucked. Perhaps because the setting is always wavering unsteadily between serious sci-fi and pure satire, depending who is writing and how much money GW feel like making.

Orks aren't gods, they can't just make anything work because they think it does - it has to be somewhat believable to begin with. A shoota works, because it has the pre-requisite components. A barrel, a trigger, a bolt and chamber, and some ammunition. It's reasonable, that what looks, feels, and generally represents a shoota should make dakka. By contrast, a stick doesn't shoot bullets just because an Ork picks it up. This is crucial for the lore. it explains why Ork machinery and contraptions function as if assembled by someone who actually has the required skills and knowledge to do so, but it also explains why orks don't just have piles or random scrap for guns and why they are interested in other's weapons and tech and try to salvage it or loot it for themselves
It was explained to me recently that Orks can't just make random shit happen out of nothing. It's action-movie rules. Like how a double barrel break action shotgun can shoot more than 2 times without reloading (looking at you, Gears 3 Ashes trailer).
I mean from my understanding it's just 2 things limiting them 1. They are dumb not delusional they can't make themselfs immortal cuz they know they can die 2. They don't know of their power and a singular Ork isn't powerful enough to do much either you need a group of them to actually believe something
Also there belief on colors change characteristics works on all species so when a chapter of blue space marines fight orks they get luckier because blue is lucky

Such a belief may not be enough to sustain the emperor alone, but it might help out a little. Not that this equates to any sort of respect. In Ork terms, that just makes him a more fun opponent.
Not sure if it’s canon or not but I heard a story of some Orks repairing a spaceship perfectly fine, until another group of Orks saw, and pointed out they didn’t have spacesuits. Then the repairing Orks died.

Even the famous commissar yarrick, couldn't shoot lasers from his eyes because the orcs believed he could, but because he has a lasgun shaped implant. And he's not immortal or super powerful, it's simply that the orcs fighting him know who he is, and their collective belief makes them fight worse against him. They could never believe themselves to immortality, even with every single individual of their race, because it wouldn't work.

Truth is, if I _had_ to exist in the Wh40k universe, but could chose which species I would be a member of, I'd be an Orc. For an Ork, everything is just as things should be, they always have a sunny attitude and fighting is fun.
Orks also possess a sense of honor. They tend to like open conflict and will make it known they want to fight. Orks also respect strength, and I think it is possible for a smaller ork to become a warboss by slaying the potentially bigger warboss.
The trick is to run up to a tank you want, kill the people inside and take it. Now you either have a tank and your problem is solved, or you are dead and it's no longer your problem. The real strength of the orks is to never stop trying. If you have no grenades, you can run up and just try to kick a door open.
I bet the intelligence to recognize their ability would make them unable to use that ability. Maybe it would work but I think the subconscious knowledge that it's not real per se would ruin it. But I think smart orks would trick dumber orks into believing they were stronger or had more abilities than they actually did. Like if a leader ork had a flamethrower hidden under his arm and pretended to cast fire from his hand and making his underlings think he could shoot fire.
Thats why i love the story of sebatian yarrick. He learned about this believe and played into it. Like how the orks believed "ol' bale eyes gaze can kill" so he replaced his eye with a laser.

He will literally attack the same way every other ork will attack and fail in the same way even having watched it happen with outside force being the reason there is a different outcome

He is an idiot that needs the genius of his elite caste and interactions with other klans and individual elites in them to get better outcomes. He will then execute pretty much the same way even with the enemy providing a variable. He will reject a concept of needing to change for it aka tactics.

We have to make one thing clear: Orc weapons are NOT literally just scrapmetal. They have almost all the mechanics and actions of functioning weapons, except for some problems here and there.
Like maybe a bolt that is too weak to actually hold the blast of the bullet, but through the orcs belief in its functionality, the bolt holds. But the moment a human tries to use the gun, the bolt breaks.
orc belief-magic Is a lot more subtle than „I make a box with a hole and a trigger, put bullets inside and then it shoots.“

For everyone else: there must be a basis of logic and function for anything to work for orks. Their belief ability simply covers for any shortcomings after that. It doesn't change the rules of reality, it just stretches those rules a bit in the orks favor.
The way I explain it is, if you give an Ork a gun-shaped stick and tell him it's a gun, he'll call you an idiot and then probably beat you to death with the stick.
BUT if you give that same Ork a gun that looks to be functional on the outside, but is missing parts on the inside that would cause it to not be able to properly shoot, the gun will still function because the Ork can reasonably believe the gun would function.
I like the Orks. Their belief of different colors changing the characteristics of the equipment they use is a funny little 4th wall break.

Well, if the tyranids are currently invading, well, *any* planet, they win by numbers period, though it's kinda cheating: they have cells that are fully developed Tyranid organisms while Ork spores are not. Smallest Orks are snotlings.

There have been a number of attempts at WH40K TV or movie adaptations, but so far they've all kind of sucked. Perhaps because the setting is always wavering unsteadily between serious sci-fi and pure satire, depending who is writing and how much money GW feel like making.

Orks aren't gods, they can't just make anything work because they think it does - it has to be somewhat believable to begin with.
A shoota works, because it has the pre-requisite components. A barrel, a trigger, a bolt and chamber, and some ammunition. It's reasonable, that what looks, feels, and generally represents a shoota should make dakka.
By contrast, a stick doesn't shoot bullets just because an Ork picks it up.
This is crucial for the lore. it explains why Ork machinery and contraptions function as if assembled by someone who actually has the required skills and knowledge to do so, but it also explains why orks don't just have piles or random scrap for guns and why they are interested in other's weapons and tech and try to salvage it or loot it for themselves
It's a bit like human cargo cults, but the Ork stuff works

It was explained to me recently that Orks can't just make random shit happen out of nothing. It's action-movie rules. Like how a double barrel break action shotgun can shoot more than 2 times without reloading (looking at you, Gears 3 Ashes trailer).
I mean from my understanding it's just 2 things limiting them
1. They are dumb not delusional they can't make themselfs immortal cuz they know they can die

Even the famous commissar yarrick, couldn't shoot lasers from his eyes because the orcs believed he could, but because he has a lasgun shaped implant. And he's not immortal or super powerful, it's simply that the orcs fighting him know who he is, and their collective belief makes them fight worse against him. They could never believe themselves to immortality, even with every single individual of their race, because it wouldn't work.

The trick is to run up to a tank you want, kill the people inside and take it. Now you either have a tank and your problem is solved, or you are dead and it's no longer your problem.
The real strength of the orks is to never stop trying. If you have no grenades, you can run up and just try to kick a door open.

I bet the intelligence to recognize their ability would make them unable to use that ability. Maybe it would work but I think the subconscious knowledge that it's not real per se would ruin it. But I think smart orks would trick dumber orks into believing they were stronger or had more abilities than they actually did.
