It's amazing that even when the art isn't being traced it still looks like the Japanese style, you're amazing
In my experience you learn a lot by tracing art. Not saying you should ever steal art or publish traced works, but tracing something is usually how I try to get a grasp of the art style

The color on the eyes was a nice touch.
Good job on the hand; though the one thing I learnt from words of Don Bluth, he did say the best way to draw hands (construction lines anyway) is starting out with drawing a mitten, how the fingers meld, and you finally implement the fingers as to how they wrap around-my only minor remark is how you are laying out the fingers (If I can recall correctly, I think the index finger is not longer than the middle finger), I think you need a smidge practice. My Dad said, “if you can draw hands, you can draw ANYTHING!”
Regardless, this piece came out incredible! The shading is all great!

Great birthday present for Sonic! Wow! Your artwork looks like it could have been official back in the day (or for Mania)! In fact, I'd be extremely happy if you got a job doing artwork for any future 2D Sonic game that Sega has not felt the need to bless us with since Mania. They were on a roll, had a team of Sonic fans together, and then promptly disbanded the and said, "Yep, we're done here!" Oh well! But if there's a Sonic 5 (we can count Mania as 4, right?), definitely apply for that job!
