This was the first episode I ever saw. A friend told me about this new show "Highlander" and even gave me a brief rundown of immortals, their ways, and such when I was in high school. I watched this episode the following Saturday. After MacLeod jumped off the ledge, came back to life (bones cracking back into place), climbed up the cliff, and then took everybody out I knew I was hooked!
Mark Singer is a top notch actor, made memorable from the "Beast Man" films and by all accounts a very good man, loving husband and good father, his friends claiming that he was and will always be a real man, by your side or at your back, someone you depend on. I am glad that he has more acclaim with being in this episode.
He was also excellent in the late 70’s early 80’s film “The Two Lives (or Two Worlds??) of Jenny Logan” with Lindsay Wagner in the title role. It has a time travel aspect to it also - but NOT Immortal related at all. Jenny lives in present day w/hubby, they buy their dream home - a beautiful Victorian home to restore. She finds an antique gown in the attic. When she tries it on, she is physically transported back in time 100 yrs in the same location, meets Marc Singer, the love of her life in that olden time period. Alls well till she takes the dress off; then the adventure begins cuz she’s thrown forward to the present day. Which life will she choose? This movie remains one of my all time top 5 faves. Wonderful historical/adventure/mystery/love story.
I think this is by far my favorite episode, the way he reacted when he saw that sword is priceless. I would have reacted the same way knowing an immortal is after my head now hahahaha.
When Duncan jumped off the cliff, I'm sure he was thinking this: "The things I go through for that woman." When he revived he likely thought this "Whoever said love hurts, wasn't kidding"
I thought his face looked a bit "Ah well, won't be fun to wake up, but I've had worse." I love the reaction of the two others: the dumb jerk just thinks it's funny, the other one looks more than a bit freaked out. Shows some brain, I think. When somebody is that cool about jumping off a cliff, he knows something that you don't know.
When he saw they were going to throw him off the cliff, I imagine he had that shocked look because he realized it was going to take him forever to climb out.
Yeah, Wes Studi :D "When the Grey Hair is dead, Magua will eat his heart. Before he dies, Magua will put his children under the knife, so the Grey Hair will know his seed is wiped out forever"
Apparently Magua revived right after his violent death in 1757 due to the fact that he was also an immortal and some two hundred and thirty years later he became a sheriff. Too bad MacLeod did not sense his presence.
Getting reacquainted w/ these after about 15 years or so. Really enjoying them! Please, anyone out there remember the ep where Mac is being pursued in total darkness by another immortal, strikes a match, then lops the guy's head off? Or the one where Mac is at some bar totally distraught and some punk picks a fight, and Mac just keeps whaling on the dude's face? Which ones? Can't remember!
It was Season 2 Episode 4 "The Darkness". It wasn't an immortal. It was a "Watcher" who was killing immortals. The one in the bar was Season 2 Episode 1 "The Watchers"
Marc singer lol you can recognize that Voice anywhere... the beastmaster episode confirmed.... again Highlander series was by far one of the best... up there with X files and Cosby show... deal with that
I agree, this is a great series, & I liked X Files just as much, if not more! The Cosby show, though, I never really liked it, or Full House, either. For both there was a fair bit of stuff that I just didn't understand, or couldn't relate to, because of personal things, &, also that I'm from New Zealand.
This is the only episode where he buries his enemy. Mac wackos a lot of dudes in water. That’s why I practice my Highlander moves while wading in the pool.
This was good ,,,, i remember these series bac in the day ,,,,, with growth and life experience now it is all new all over again,,, talk about maturity in life from which you were a kid and did not understand life but just enjoyed the action at that time, now it is more than a show or movie and even better than ever before. " like the ol' shawbrothers kung fu moives " .... You will see these movies in a whole new light of understandment rather than just the action' " call it visual maturity "
Word! Scripting a fight without having it look scripted - really difficult, so this show has a few off shows. But this one? It manages to look wonderfully wild, simply lto fighters in it for their lives, and both of them p***ed off. I guess having two very athletic actors on hand for it helped a lot.

If Immortals existed, that would sadly be the inevitable outcome of any romantic relationship between an immortal and a mortal. That is why in the Movies, after his 'Bonny Heather', Conner spent the vast majority of the ensuing centuries prior to what's her face, single.
Wow! I did not know Wes Studi had a role in "HIGHLANDER" this episode was done around the same time he did "LAST OF THE MOHICANS". There was also an episode like this on "WALKER TEXAS RANGER" dealing with mountain men.
I kinda wish we had more fights with immortals using different weapons than swords. Listen I get it: A lot of actors who choose to learn how to use a weapon for performances choose swords. Also the whole "Sword under the coat" thing allready pushed the believabillity. A Spear or a broadaxe would really push it. But still. It could have made for some interresting scenarious

Well, it's a go-to if you need to create trouble for a hero: have his girl friend run into trouble. E.g. the Django reboot a few years ago? Everything's going fine for our two heros, and then a young woman who managed to survive slavery for years (meaning usually: you can hide whatever you think, because half of it is probably going to get you a beating) can't keep a straight face, and everything goes belly up. And I don't see a connection between "stupid" and taking pictures of something that inpires her or eating a power bar is particularly stupid. How common a threat were bands of mountain men in 1980ies forests?
I guess its kinda feral atavism or something.. The first and only time Tessa watched Duncan take a head and absorb a Quickening, I believe.
When Duncan jumped off the cliff, I'm sure he was thinking this: "The things I go through for that woman." When he revived he likely thought this "Whoever said love hurts, wasn't kidding"
