You know, one of the main inspirations for this game is the Commandos series, and as it happens, Commandos 2 got a remastered version a few weeks ago.
The commandos games were my first thought as well. I used to love those
i can barerly remember the commando series but there is also the deperados series getting a proper new game soon

Guard with a looping patrol and no witnesses... doesn't use Yuki's trap. Or the giant rock. Tries to use Yuki like a gimped ninja instead.

Jon this game is actually very much so like Commandos and Commandos 2 just got and HD remaster so I think it might be a game you might like.
@Cocota Gaming I remember playing commandos as a kid in my PC, I sucked ass, I still do but that is besides the point, but yeah they remastered 2 and a new company bought the license and they confirmed a new game in the series.
I don't know who's played it, but the first thing I thought of when I saw it was "Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood", where you had to, of course, run around, steal from the rich, give to the poor, fight the sheriff of Nottingham and all that. That, and come to think of it, the old game Commandos (where you were fighting the Nazis), had the same sort of feel to it, where you were isometric heroes supposed to sneak around completing missions, finding secret solutions and not getting caught, that ultimately turned into you getting spotted, and trying desperately not to die.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. Might give it another go now.
This is such a great game. One of my favorites games I have played. Enjoyed every mission, wish there was a sequel but I am excited for Desperados 3 (same studio, gerne but in a western setting).
I would Definitely Would Love To See This Game as a Livestream. I Might Actually Buy This Game For Myself.
@1:03:15 instead of just putting the bottle down, you could have placed a trap, and then placed the wine ON the trap. :)
This is one of the few games i fully completed, also because i loved the old Commandos games.

Jon blatantly ignoring the environmental takedown options is almost painful.
The characters even tell him what to do and he tries to do it differently. Those big icicles falling on that guys head would have been soooooooo nice ^^
It's basically Ninja Commandos.
Which is not bad at all.
Also i agree that a proper save system allows experimenting is great. You can always tie a more restrictive one to higher difficulty.
It's like Commandos 2 and Mark of the Ninja had a baby, pretty cool

Other options include Desperados (western), Robin Hood (self explanatory) and a 1920's chigago mobster game I can't remember the name of.

I played this game all the way through when it came out and loved the whole thing. Every level is interesting and fun and unique, and it really takes some skill to get good at. Highly recommend.
This brings me back to when I was much younger playing Commands!!

I got curious and looked up how the raccoon figures into things. Suffice it to say, it's ADORABLE.

I remember seeing my friend play this. It seemed quite fun. And oh it is...provided you stay stealth mode...
I fell in love with this style of gameplay back when the "Commandos" series first started coming out. I'd highly recommend checking those out if you like this.

Wow, the UI looks really different with a controller. Had no idea it could even be played that way.
I did initially try with keyboard and mouse, but then the game seemingly wanted me to use a mouse, the arrow-keys and various buttons around WASD at the same time, and I am not an octopus, so here we are.
@@ManyATrueNerd With the mouse you play it more like an RTS by setting waypoints.
The keyboard UI way more efficient. I'll splatter ink on anyone who says otherwise.

I've been wanting another xcom-esque series again
I recommend switching to the Japanese audio. Although the game wasn't developed in Japan (it's from Germany) the Japanese audio is great and adds an extra notch to the game.
Reminds me alot of deserados wanted dead or alive, but with ninjas instead of cowboys!
and the same developers are working on Desperados 3 at the moment.

i don't know what it is, it combines two things i love, commandos/desperados RTT games and ninjas, but i just could not get in to the game.
it seems to have universal good reviews, so i guess its just my own opinion. maybe playing with a controler offers a better experience

you have commando's 1-3, robin hood as well as the western one as well. Allthough I do like the theming of this one better, highly recommend it.
This game was obnoxiously difficult. I couldn't surpass the third level and actually just plum stopped playing!
