      As a Blues fan I will be the first to admit many times we beat Villa it was down to one man. Trevor Francis. I remember one year at St Andrews when Villa absolutely thrashed us in all but on the scoreboard. They hit the post, the bar had shots kicked off the line, Hit a defender unknowingly on the line. Totally dominated Birmingham. Francis had one chance late in the game and he scored. Easily the best player I have ever seen in a Blues shirt was gutted when he finally left us.

      That is so reflective of the times we live in now for so many reasons people now all think that they are superstars and that everything should be done for them funny thing is the true superstars are the ones who do things for others and ask nothing in return

    He always seemed very decent, fair, intelligent and honest apart from being a top player and top manager. I remember when he was manager of Birmingham City and they played at local rivals Walsall, I think in a cup game, and at half time, the TV reporter, wanting to favour the bigger team, said to Trevor Francis "Unlucky you could have been 1-0 up there..." And honest Francis, said, referring to a couple of early Walsall chances, "Well we could have also been down 0-2 in the first ten minutes..." Walsall ended up winning the game 1-0, but Francis's honesty and fairness stood out, and Birmingham were playing well under him. A teenage Andrew Johnson (who also went on to be prolific striker for Fulham and Crystal Palace) made his debut (or was an early appearance) in that game for Birmingham, and he looked excellent, fast and clinical, but got injured during the match I think. Went on to have a good career, but really had the talent to have done even better, Trevor Francis may well have had a role in his high level of striking ability.

    I gave a record to Viv Anderson who lived in my home town of Clifton Nottingham. He invited me to Nottingham Forest ground as Viv used to visit my next door neighbours every Sunday and I used to go around and help cut the grass or hedge because I knew Viv Anderson was coming around. On arrival waiting at the Nottingham Forest gates I was invited in which last only around 10 minutes, Trevor Francis was the 1st guy I met asking what can we do for you young man. I said I have a record here called "We Got The Whole World In Our Hands" with all the Forest players on it and I wanted to know if all the Forest players would sign it. Trevor took the record and within 10 minutes returned it to me with all the players names on signed in white writting. I was so proud. Being so young around 12 or 13 years old a year later a man asked me do you want to sell that record? I will give you a good price. I asked how much? He said I will give you £2 pounds. Yeah I said excited thinking I can go buy some sweets/candy. Today I still think of that record, where it is and how much it is worth today. What an idiot I was. RIP Trevor a humble & kind man I had the pleasure to meet.

    Bought for what was an unthinkable fee but never for a second believed he was worth more than the paper the contract was written on....that right there is the blueprint for how players should behave and it's exactly why Trevor Francis played for as long as he did. He knew it could end tomorrow and that healthy fear along with his undying love for the game is what prolonged his career on the pitch...aside from his superhuman ability to turn defenders inside out...

      Certainly not for kicking a ball around. I'm not sure, how ever skillful they were, that any player should have been valued at £1 million even. I'm old enough to remember when players, although relativity well paid compared to those paying to watch them play, still had something in common with anyone coming into the stadium. All that has been lost. Mbappe may be a pretty decent player by today's standards, but valued at near a quarter million ? Something is seriously wrong if that is what the game has come to.

    • @rampageclover9788
      @rampageclover9788 ปีที่แล้ว

      Players these days are spoilt, emotionally stunted adolescents in adult men's bodies who hide behind their agents when managers hurt their feelings by telling them they're not pulling their weight or even playing to their full potential. Trevor Francis and his generation of players - those were real men who took care of business, were so grateful for the opportunities given to them and knew that it could all end tomorrow. They also knew that the fans made them and could turn on them at the flick of a switch if they started acting bigger than the club. Alex Ferguson was the last manager of that era to lay down the law....Clough obviously was that guy at Forest...
