This song was actually a live DJ vinyl turntable set by DJ Dexta, who was in the Avalanches - it was mixed and turned into a single. If you watch his old sets, you can see him do it live. Its pretty amazing.
Etoh is one of their most gorgeous beats. When I saw them live opening for Beastie Boys they didn't stop playing between songs and all the band members walked around and traded instruments.
90’s early 2000’s alternative radio was like a new Wild West. You could hear U2, the Avalanches, Nada Surf & Weezer in like 30 minutes. It was truly Pandora/Spotify before the internet
The avalanches claimed it was over 3500, but that's hard to believe, it didn't even sound like it was that much to begin with, I think it's from 100-900.
Nothing on that album comes close to being as creative, catchy, and bizarre as Frontier Psychiatrist but then again, pretty much nothing in music history comes close. A true work of creative madness and genius. Would have loved to transport Mozart and Beethoven to the late '90s and only make them do whacky plunderphonics. I think it would be right up Mozart's alley at least. He had a sick sense of humor.
I have so many great memories of listening to this song on a burnt CD in the car when I was 10, honestly I didn't even know there was a music video until fairly recently but it actually lines up eerily well with what I'd always pictured in my head. It was really fun seeing your reaction!
Funny you say that. I'm really old (56) and I clearly remember listening to the radio when I was 2 or 3 and not really understanding the medium. I must have seen a stage with a big double curtain on it, because that was what I always pictured in my mind. I didn't know what a dj was or a weather reporter or a news reader. I didn't even know what records were, so in my mind everything I heard through the radio happened on that stage, with the main guy with the most to say (the dj) standing to one side behind a podium. This video (one of my all time favourites) is eerily close to what I saw in my imagination when I listened to the radio over half a century ago. Love it, love it, love it, LOVE IT
The avalanches are one of my favorite artists. All of their songs are comprised of mostly samples. I highly recommend checking out some of their other stuff. Here’s a list of some of my favorites: Since I left you Electricity Close to you A different feeling Live at dominoes Subways
The parent teacher conference at the beginning was sampled from the John Waters film *Polyester* which starred 70s drag queen Divine as a housewife whose world falls apart.
LOL, was great to see your reaction to this epic song, love this so much!! I just made a cover of 'Frontier Psychiatrist' on my channel too! 🐢 Fro-Fro-Frontierrrr!! 😂
This album is all samples 35000 to create this album that's why it took them 16 years to make a second album
3500, but of course absolutely insane and so fucking dope, timeless classic :)
Jesus
3500 - its completely made of samples - no original stuff was recorded for it.

Listening to Frontier Psychiatrist for the first time is just one of those listens you never forget.
Same with watching christopher walken in Fatboy Slim’s - weapons of choice. I love videos like that, catch you by surprise:)

After watching Frontier Psychiatrist for the first time, I think I need therapy. It was totally worth it, though.
LOL... every single sound was a sample. That makes it even more awesome!
Also lol this is 100% made from sounds sampled from other records. Their first album mas comprised of over 900 individual samples
900 "legal" samples.
The avalanches claimed it was over 3500, but that's hard to believe, it didn't even sound like it was that much to begin with, I think it's from 100-900.
@@djbackspin911 Only "Frontier Psychiatrist" have 27 sample.
@@gomboach yep
@@gomboach frontier have way more than 27 samples if you count all the vocal samples. A few of them are hidden in the mix as well.
this song perfectly fades into also one of the greatest songs on the album you should do a reaction to, its just as bizarre and catchy
Etoh is a terrible song
thanks for your negative opinion. ill disagree

Your reaction, down to facial expressions, was almost exactly mine when I first heard it… “WTH did I just see?!?!” Totally awesome but wow!!!
This track is just pure brilliance

Some folks did an animated version of this that I think you’d get a kick out of. It’s called ‘Frontier Psychiatrist Reanimated’
"Frontier Psychiatrist" is a masterpiece. I have heard a couple of other songs by "The Avalanches" but I´ve only been liking this song

Amazing job bud. I was all over this band back when. But you made sense of it perfectly.
It’s makes my happy that over 20 years later my dad’s music is making people grove
I don't know what this was but always great to see you react.
2:29 "What is going on" Well, everything is going on! 🤗
Nearly drove off the road laughing first time I heard this.. drove right to the record store and grabbed it. The album did not disappoint.
I should have expected/known you did a reaction to this. Before I even watch I am sure it's going to be good. lol

man I Love your reaction to this song!! it was the same one I had HA!!!!
I got stuck on a loop listening to this song. Awsome review.
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN EYEBALL!
There is a video that deconstructs this song. Everything is a sample from somewhere.
Dude your expressions are priceless....
I love the woman on the drums in the vid. 😂

When my son does something stupid, regularly, my wife and I will sing the “That boy needs therapy” part to each other.
You should react to Since I Left you or Because I'm Me by the Avalanches!! Both are fucking great songs and videos

This is my favorite what the eff is going on song.
Love this track!
You gotta do avalanches since I left you!
It’s all very confusing until those drums hit
The master's of sampling
Would love to see your reaction to aphex twin - come to daddy. Scariest music video EVER !
If you haven't seen it already Dave, Cardiacs - Tarred and Feathered. You might thank me afterwards, or not.
I love the Avalanches
Correct reaction to this song. Respect bro
Every single sound came from samples. Still, it’s 🔥🔥🔥!
Such an underrated song
There are people trying to track down all the sample sources, they still don't have them all.
Divine Chord! Gotta react. It’s one of my favorite songs of all time by anybody.
The new album is so sooo much better than Since I Left You.
What's even more funny is that the Australian government paid to produce this music video 😂
The exact opposite - ALL samples 😊
why does it look like everyone in this song has committed a crime
As good a sample heavy song this is, The Avalanches got sued to their necks over them all
Now would you believe me if I told you that all of it was sampled? 😂
This song is highly underrated. No one in my circle has heard of it.
I love to watch this example of idiot genius after having a really bad day⚛️❤
"But what does that mean?"
Absurdity is what it is all about
If anyone says "I get it" when they watch this video, they're LYING. 😁
Dude have you watched “blinded me with science “? Similar to what you just watched
Sorry forgot to add , blinded me by science was by Thomas Dolby
I gues now you need therapist
