The story behind this song is that Rik wrote this in response to his grandmother at the time fighting cancer. The other two band members in studio were perplexed with the lyrics and then making it work for a song. FTGF actually took a while with many drafts to the final song here from 1981.

When this song would play we would shake hands like Arnold and Dillon in our favorite movie Predator. The lyrics are extremely powerful, the vocals are excellent, and Triumph ROCKS! This song is something to listen to when you really need some strength and help to get through this thing we call life. It's basically a prayer in rock n roll!

I have always considered Rik to be the best of them and they were all necessary to be a great band. All the way up Surveillance I read the lyrics and Gil was great for the high energy songs it never really struck a too much of a chord with me. I first heard this song back in the 80's when I was in college. Today, in 2019, this song resonates more with me than ever. I'm a public middle school teacher in a high-risk neighborhood and everyday is a struggle. Every day I'm a fish swimming up stream. It feels like teaching today's kids is a thankless job. Many kids don't care. Many parents don't care and raise their kids to be little malcontents who do nothing to help themselves or those around them. The lyrics click with the daily struggle. As school winds up here for me for the school year I know that I fight the good fight every minute, every day. I do my best to do my part. I try to not get discourage, I know I can make it through another day. I know it's worth the price I pay.
Rik Emmet is a saint. Such inspirational words, and beautiful melodies. This song and The Lord gave me strength when I was 16 and my Mom was dying. (I played it for her, she got strength from it also), and throughout my life, so many times. Now here I am, 50, my bf just conquered his addiction with Ibogaine, and I'm praying it cures my crippling depression. And again, this song and The Lord STILL give me strength when I feel there's nothing left to hold on to. And thank you God for blessing us with Iboga Root!!!

Honestly, I already am mostly isolated. It blows my mind how mad people get, when they say something to you, and you have to ask them to say it again. I have a young niece, who straight up asked me one day, "Are you deaf?" I told her about my severe hearing loss. She is now one of the only people who doesn't get mad if I don't hear her, and she tries to speak louder and more clearly, when talking to me.

I always thought this song sounded so unique. I am hard of hearing though, and have never been able to understand any singer's lyrics, without reading along. Tonight, I read along. So the song is unique, and the lyrics are even more unique. I struggle, but I believe in the Lord. I'll keep fighting the good fight. And I love this song!

Honestly, I already am mostly isolated. It blows my mind how mad people get, when they say something to you, and you have to ask them to say it again. I have a young niece, who straight up asked me one day, "Are you deaf?" I told her about my severe hearing loss. She is now one of the only people who doesn't get mad if I don't hear her, and she tries to speak louder and more clearly, when talking to me.
