Hi Coleman. I've been listening to your conversations avidly in podcast form for the last few months. I have been utterly impressed with your thoughtful approach to all of the topics you tackle. Best wishes.

The best interview out of maybe 20 of Coleman’s I’ve seen. Fantastic start to the new year. I will seek out the film and share a link to this interview widely.

Sundance and SXSW have lost a lot of legitimacy. We need new film festivals in North America that aren’t afraid to screen challenging and thought-provoking films. The entire industry seems beholden to a woke mob.

I've seen a couple of interviews/podcasts with her now, and what strikes me is how positive she is towards Arabic culture/Islam. Always talking about hospitality and solidarity, never about womens place or the view of homosexuality, for example. So I somehow trust her a bit less because of this rosy view, almost "islamophile" some would say.
My point being, it's beyond insane that she would be cancelled and accused of islamophobia.

I have never related to another adult so much. I grew up with a learning disability. And even after "graduating" out of the IEP program It stays with you. You are not "cured". I do agree that when you struggle and fight for what other perceive as basic learning and knowledge. It molds you to be this empathetic and yearning to teach. I now work with special needs adults. I can finally teach them in a non-judgmental, and purely "special" way.

Saw the film yesterday, screened at Boston University, followed by a great Q&A. Am frustrated by not being able to point any of my friends to a place where they could see it.

I have never seen a video (other than his music videos) of Coleman, I always just listen to the podcasts. He is not afraid to get his hands involved in the conversation 🙂. Huge fan, Love the show.

I'm really bummed the movie is still so hard to see. I hope a screening comes to Chicago soon. It's curious that a lot of people in Alabama happened to request it.

An amazing interview. I loved Coleman talking about the BIPOC strategy in class when you haven't done the reading: say that it isn't relevant to you. It can work for any woman, also. I think that strategy has longer, deeper roots than even he realizes--it goes back to the 1970s and it has taken over academia at the faculty level, largely for careerist reasons. I do want to see this film, too.

Great interview Colman!! I haven’t watched the documentary yet, but the Shawn Ryan show said it was a great documentary so thanks for helping keep it in the public's view..sounds like Meg did a great job..we need more insight like this…maybe the world would be more understanding with this insight Meg has done so well!!

Amazing interview which I did enjoy very much. I adore Meg, she’s a beautiful, astute and kind lady. I agree with you Coleman about the cowardice of the cancellation squad. My very best friend since many years is a Muslim. Only in taking time for learning and appreciating people you really forget the category of gender, race and religion like Meg said we will overcome those in the appropriate way. Cudos to both of you! 🥀🌹🌷

I saw this movie last night in Waterloo. It was a really good documentary that really helped me empathize with people who have done things that aren't easy to empathize with. The fact it was cancelled and blacklisted is appalling.

Another great conversation, my only quibble is when you compare people carrying a Kalishnikov in Yemen to people carrying a Prada handbag in NY. How are they on a par? Seriously? A gun is not just a status symbol, it's a threat.

Identity politics are a big problem for the truth. The idea that a person outside a group cannot understand or speak about issues concerning the group is ridiculous.
As to the metric of GPA as a forecast of future success, it is not absolute. The structure of academia doesn't suit every learner. I'm glad she learned how she processes information.

Not about the movie, but on the comment that the guest made that she is old enough to know when a person is honest and trustworthy and when not. Yes, well you do develop some skills of reading people compared to when you were young or a child, but we can be fooled over and over easily. The main reason for this is because by default we take it that people are speaking the truth. It takes more effort to lie than to say the truth and it also takes more effort to doubt than believe what has been said. But quite a few people are accustomed to lying and it is easy for them. And often times we are very willing to buy their lies because it is easier not to react than react. That is why so many in different communities deny that there has been abuse of minors and they have actually known about it. A very common thing, not just in cults, but it can happen in any community. Turning the blind eye is a very common thing. We all do it. And we all lie. So, believing that you become good at knowing if people are honest or not, is deceptive. How come so many people were drawn into accepting Hitler's policy and how come Jewish people didn't take the danger seriously enough earlier on so that they could have fled or fought against it? Because they were just people like us, like everyone. We are and always will be easily deceived. Read Primo Levi (The Drowned and the Saved), you will realize what people really are like when stripped naked from our false beliefs.

There are good plug-ins that remove mouth click sounds without messing up the audio. I have a hard time listening when the closeness of the mic picks up a ton of saliva clicks from the guest.

    Would love
To watch it. There is some decent journalism out there that frames this a more than a simple cancel culture issue, and the fact that she was white as irrelevant. The Intercept has one version.
