Queen's lead guitarist Brian May endorsed their cover of this song by posting their video of it on his Facebook page back in 2016-17 saying that they deserved the recognition that they were gaining for their performance! I think that their performance/cover of this is close as you can get to a perfect cover of this song and his endorsement tells me that if Freddie Mercury were alive he would have most definitely approved of the cover and that he would have certainly loved it!
Not to mention the many tributes to Queen - including the starry sky at the end in homage to Brian May’s Astrophysicist degree, the 4 shooting stars representing the 4 members of Queen, and their laying by on the couch at the end mimicking the Queen album cover “Sheer Heart Attack.” A beautiful tribute by Pentatonix.
I am glad you were so surprised ! Watch the "PTX- Behind the scenes of Bohemian Rhapsody" filmed in a parking lot. When they are "live" Mitch's voice guitar solo, WITHOUT the prop megaphone, IT SOUNDS THE SAME. These songsters are powerful and full of precision. LOVE IT ! Thank you for more PTX. :)
I've heard this song live. It's almost exactly the same. And Mitch doesn't even use the megaphone for the guitar sounds. It's great. I recommend their cover of Gold by Kiiara. Mitch does with his voice what she needed tons of autotune to do.
Yes!!! They use every trick they have (which is a lot) to vary the sounds and make it sound right - at the end of "Gold," they alternate singers to make it sound like the original did using electronics....amazing!
Just so you know Mitch, the guy that did the "guitar solo", does this live all the time without the megaphone and it sounds exactly the same!! I highly recommend their cover of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from Lion King
All of their evolution videos are one shot/take with studio quality. They also had a Christmas special and did Hallelujah, so it’s professionally shot. Lastly, everyone will suggest Aha! Live from the Star Vista. This is (I assume) a cell phone shot video, but quality is fairly good. I think Avi blew a speaker that night and you can tell the phone/camera has some trouble picking up the bass BUT it’s a great video and showcases Mitch’s range and vocal control. He’s insane. 👍🏼
Have to disagree on the quality. The sound really sux on that video. I'm not sure why everyone raves about it -- there are other live concerts where Mitch is just as "animated" on that song.
Surprisingly there is a lot of people who haven’t yet heard of Pentatonix. They had a huge growing after their Christmas Album ‘Thats Christmas to me’ went double platinum, had 7 songs Chart in Billboards Holiday Digital Charts, and is also the highest charting Holiday Album from a group since 1962. had 3 songs all on Billboards Top 10 at the same time, and the only act to Top both the Holiday Albums and Holiday Songs Charts simultaneously.
Yes! Their professionally recorded live of Hallelujah is so well done. You can even see Scott take over the bass when Avi is singing his part. So well done

It's a great sing and good performance, but the audio is not the best. Excellent for a cell phone, but they have better live videos with better production and audio. Not trying to slam the suggestion. Just being honest and helping the guys to narrow it down. Definitely should check it out, but after another live video with what they are asking for.
@@christopherbritton1840 I do wish we had a professionally recorded version of that performance. @@mmg8823 Absolutely agree! The fan filming did a good job but no phone can be as good as professional equipment. And yeah...that speaker really impacted a lot of good stuff, especially when Avi and Mitch were playing off each other.
IF YOU WANNA HEAR THEM LIVE you just have to react to Pentatonix POPSPRING PERFORMANCE 2016! Cause there’s a good quality of shooting and an excellent balance of their microphones 🔥
They got their start on The Sing-Off Season 3! You should see them do “Love Lockdown” “Video Killed the Radiostar”, or “The Dog Days are Over” from that show! Their start is awesome!
Don't worry, when reactors first find out about PTX, they wonder how they never heard of them. my babies are simply amazing, no other way to put it. they are are five talented souls that blend perfectly together. Can I suggest Hallelujah, where are you now, Aha live, La La Latch and Mary did you know?
I suggest listening to some of their covers in pairs. One of my favorite upgrades is the song Havana from 2018. I played it for my father who is 83 and still teaching ball room dancing for competition. He said, "This is brilliant, they took out the rap and made it sound like a 1950 Latin Band playing the new CHA CHA music after it separated as a dance style from Salsa." Thanks for your reactions.
There are some really good early Pentatonix performances that we recorded live when they were on the show the sing off. To hear them do another classic rock song listen to their seventh performance which was _Born to be Wild_ . Keep in mind this was just after they had formed the group, they formed the group for the competition. They are just babies at this point about 19 years old for the trio and the beat boxer and bass are barely any older, about a year or two. They look so damn young but they are still amazing.
As i have not seen it here yet: The Guy who does the bass is Avi Kaplan, he left the Group and does solo Stuff now that is also incredible. Also Tim foust and him together doin Ring of Fire ! incredible! You could check that out!
I had a few suggestions after your last PTX reaction. All of their Popspring performances, "Cracked" live from the Honda Stage at iHeart Radio (which might be the definitive live performance of that song, which is one of their own songs), any of their "Evolution of ..." videos (all one-take recordings in the studio; no splicing or layering), and of course their performance of "Hallelujah" from their first Christmas special.
The looks on your faces told me that you are becoming addicted, wanting to find other gems. Try Pentatonix at Popspring 2016, recorded by MTV, good quality.
You have 9 years of this group's musical magic to go through...So "Can't hold us" , "Mary did you know?", "Somebody that I used to know", "I need your love" just to name a few.
You guys crack me up, whether you mean to or not. If you really want to see live concert performance then check out the Popspring concert 2016, There is 3 original songs and a Evolution of Michael Jackson. I think it is filmed in japan so you know the quality is going to be great. Maybe split it up if too long.
I agree with you that Freddie and his version will always come first but this is excellent! Rumor has it that this was sent to Brian May and he thought it was the best cover he had heard. Can’t Hold Us is pretty good, it is one of their early ones. Mary Did You Know, Imagine, No Rules/Are You that Somebody. All good! They recently dropped an original you might want to react to, it’s called Happy Now. I do have to say that I think their best live version is Hallelujah on their Christmas Special. There is another a cappella group of five guys called Home Free and they also have an amazing beat boxer. Man of Constant Sorrow or Ring of Fire would be good. Home Free brings a country vibe and at times some great humor, please consider them. There is a video of Adam Rupp their beat boxer doing a drum solo live up on stage. They have a great bass too.
Yes, their "Popspring 2016" which is three of their original songs and their "Evolution of Michael Jackson". Not only a good look at them live but you get to listen to some of their originals at the same time.
Talent is talent! Creativity, understanding what a great arrangement is, using every instrument at your availability (in this case voices)... I’ve watched and listened this cover so many times I can’t count, and I still notice things I never noticed before. Freddie Mercury and Queen were brilliant and this cover is an hommage to their masterpiece. Enjoy the ride. 🤗
DEFINITELY watch the live Hallelujah Christmas Special. They’re all individually mic’d up so you really hear their voices. You’ll gain a whole new appreciation for hearing them in that setting, guaranteed!!
for live versions, any of the acapella academy stuff is good. But their off the mic performances, private performances, those are gold. Especially their daft punk one. It proves how they do everything with their voices and is PHENOMENAL, high recommend checking it out
Guitar Grassi happens even without the megaphone. It's just a prop and he sounds like that in concert too. It's phenomenal. I haven't found a good quality live Bohemian Rhapsody yet, and it's a song that they encourage the audience to sing along to, so the noise is always... interesting. The Aha! in Singapore at Star Vista that everyone is talking about is amazing. The sound does interesting things once or twice, because Avi does rude things to subwoofers, but overall it's very good.
First, I agree, nothing will ever be better than the original but I really do love this video also. In case no one else has said it, Megaphone Mitch only uses it in the video for show. Live, he does not, so yeah, that is just his voice. And I saw your first video, and I understood your reaction, I just appreciate that you kept on and now truly appreciate the artistry that is PTX. Always here for your reactions and I can tell, you are secretly becoming Pentaholics. If you get the chance to watch it, watch the 'making of' video. It took them 8 hrs to get it done, it was cold out and yes the sofa was moving. Also, part of the set broke as they were making it.
Don’t worry, most of us pentaholics understand the inicial skepticism. Some Live performances with good quality audio: Aha in Singapore/ telephone in Singapore/ hallelujah Christmas show/ any of their “evolution of .....” are done in one take/ the popspring show (the entire show is quite long, so I suggest the evolution of MJ or “can’t sleep love”)/ the Star Wars tribute at the 2015 AMA’s. If you want to go even more raw, you can check out the private performance of daft punk they did with no mics (sometimes it may be a little hard to hear Avi’s low notes) or the thrift shop performance they did through the intercom of an airport (I think both have pretty decent audio). There’s also a couple of songs they sang during a livestream around 8 years ago (it might be kinda cool to see how much they changed and improved), I highly recommend “End of time” and “baddest girl”. Also a little bonus gift for ya, check out “Hit the road jack + Avi = Blown speakers”, I guess that tittle kinda ruins it but yeah, Avi’s low notes blow out the speakers at the end of the song (warning tho: there’s A LOT of screaming from the fans throughout the entire thing (A LOT). Sorry if I forgot any other great performances, they’re just so many.
I think the sound of silence at Jimmy Kimmel live is also a very good quality version (except the drums in that performance were not necessary), but the recording was good. th-cam.com/video/LmowFmjhEIs/w-d-xo.html
Thank you both for the entertaining videos. It’s been a very sad day so thank you for being a light in my day and getting me to laugh. I find you both very amusing.
Check out their Sing Off performances. It was an acapella singing competition in 2011. You can fully appreciate their beginnings and it was all live. Most, if not all, of their performances will blow your mind! Born To Be Wild , Dog Days Are Over , Love Lockdown
Yep fellas, AL THE THINGS! These 'guys' are brilliant in person. The kids and I had the privilege of seeing PTX in concert over here (Australia), and they sound exactly the same. Maybe not as polished as the recorded versions, but there is no mistaking their 'pound for pound' talent. Next time they're over here (C@Vid-nineteen willing) the kids and I will be front and centre. If you get the chance, go and see them live, I reckon you'll really enjoy the show and grow a deeper appreciation of their incredible technical ability, professionalism and showmanship :) Another awesome reaction video, thanks. BTW: Nice Jug(z) BowZer :D...not sure if you catch the Aussie slang...if you don't, look it up :)
Thanks for the reaction. Observing here how badly you are being blown away. Other commenters have mentioned quite a few live with excellent sound recording and balancing and I second them: > "A-ha" live performance at Singapore Star Vista. While recorded from a fan cam, the sound is passable. Other reactors have asked where Kevin Olusola the beat boxer is. He was just keeping his cello from the previous number and did return to the stage afterward. You can clearly hear him though > Hallelujah live in their Pentatonix Christmas special > Pop spring concert 2016 - this consists of 4 songs (3 originals and 1evolution song). This was in Japan and sound quality and balancing is par excellence, thanks to the very capable Japanese sound engineers > iHeartRADIO recordings. Try Cheerleader, Can't Sleep love Btw, PTX performs Bohemian Rhapsody LIVE in its entirety in concerts, earlier with Avi Kaplan as bass and later on with Matt Sallee who took over bass when Avi left the group in late 2017. As you know, Queen doesn't perform this live in entirety. They had to shift to the recorded video when it comes to the operatic chorus (scamarouche...) because during recording, they put in layers and layers of dubs to create the sound, which, unfortunately they cannot duplicate live. And that's why Pentatonix brought this to another level of musicality
When they were newly being discovered, they were competing on a show called Sing Off. one song they did you may enjoy is Born to Be Wild. Completely live, it was a competition...but recorded well because it was a show. Rest assured, they won the competition...all episodes are worth listening to.
Ticket in Nashville this last tour was $200 for a disability seat. It wasn't close to the stage plus being disabled I needed someone with me. His seat would have been $200 also. Needless to say I didn't go.
A few things. 1) I was a 90s kid and everyone/thing was a dude. I still say it all the time. 2) Scott (tall blonde) had always said they would never do a Queen song unless they could do it justice, which is why it took them so long to cover this. 3) if you want to see a great display of how well they time and fit their vocals, I suggest watching their cover of Gold by Kiiara. The song is definitely not your type of music but their cover is great. 4) Each member of PTX is incredibly talented in their own right. Together, they are mind blowing. They have strong vocal talents, a skilled beatboxer, who is probably the single most talented person on Earth, an ear for brilliant arrangements, and they blend seamlessly together.
Their popspring concert in 2016 has a professional video and the sound mixing is one of the best. I recommend Can't Sleep Love from that concert, it's one of their original songs.
You can watch them get their start on The Sing Off. The trio was so young and it shows the growth from then to now. My son showed me their Daft Punk Medley several years ago and I was hooked. Binge watched everything they had and was so sad I didn't get to see them in concert while Avi was with them. Did the VIP experience in June 2019 and meeting them in person was amazing! They sing a private song to the VIP group just before the concert and they were flawless. You mentioned Lost on You by LP and I hope you react to Scott and Mario covering that song. Also Scott and Mitch have a spin off channel called Super Fruit which has some great medley's set to piano music. This is an acapella rabbit hole that keeps on giving. Check out Home Free too. They are amazing and Tim, the bass, is able to go a little lower than Avi. They invite Avi to cameo in their cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire. Excited to see you discover this genre.
Great reaction! A lot of people/reactors are very confused by them at first. You should do Aha Singapore it is cell phone but worth the watch .. there is a Hallelujah live version that's great quality among others.
To get a fuller appreciation of the talents of Kevin Olusola you need to react to one of his "KOvers" from his personal page. Not only is he a world-class beatboxer, he is also a master at the cello and saxophone having played both at Carnegie Hall while still in high school and a skilled singer with a tenor voice. He even created his own skill called "celloboxing" where he plays cello and beatboxes at the same time. It was a video of this that he posted that convinced the others to ask him to join the group for their victorious run on 'The Sing Off'. On the side he has been experimenting with live looping which allows him to construct entire performances by himself which he appropriately calls KOvers because they are so much more than a cover. The best one I can think of to start with is his rendition of 'Down' by Marion Hill. It has a sample of each of his talents and also contains a face-melting electric cello solo. Good luck, for you might just find yourself in another rabbit hole.
I was wondering when yall was gna do them love thr voices..yall keep up the great work everyone please stay safe and blessed much love from San Antonio
Been following them since The Sing Off, knew immediately they would come out on top. The intricacies of their vocals and composition of sound - outstanding. Seeing them live is a whole other ballgame, I will always pay to see them. Honestly any of their videos are good, their Evolution of videos are live recordings.
The guy with the awesome beard and bass voice is Avi Kaplan (pronounced Ah-Vee). He left the group amicably and helped to find his replacement, Matt. He is now a solo artist and has some amazing music too! Check out his track Change on the Rise... You’ll be glad you did.
Check out the making of this video. It's all the more impressive when you realize all that went into it filming through the night in the cold before the sun came up.
Their "Evolution" videos are probably the best for seeing them live with good quality recording. The best part is if you watch them all chronologically, you also get to see how Pentatonix's own sounds and styles evolve and improve through the years. They keep getting better.
Don't be surprised that you hadn't heard of them. They've been around for a few years and are even from my home state of Texas, but I didn't discover them until I was spending a lot more time on TH-cam after the pandemic started. I've been completely hooked ever since. And while I agree that nothing will ever touch the original Queen version, this version is really astonishing considering it's all just them and their voices.
There was a documentary of one of their first tours. It’s called “On My Way Home”. There are excerpts of them performing some songs live. The star vista performance people keep talking about is actually pretty good. Even I was impressed with the audio. It does get a little fuzzy but that’s just because of Avi almost blowing the subwoofers, which he’s done several times. I can’t listen to that version with headphones it’s just too much for me. But I think you guys could handle it. Glad to see you’re starting to appreciate them more. Also they’ve been on the Conan O’Brian show as musical guests. I believe those performances are still available for viewing through that website. If I get a chance I’ll try to find the links for you to make it a little easier.
They did a performance at the AMA’s of a Star Wars medley if you guys want a good live version of them! They have a full orchestra backing them in part of it but it is still amazing!
New subscriber I just stumbled onto you guy's I enjoyed yo're reactions they seem real and genuine and fun.Anything you watch from these guy's is going to be great.
Also regarding live performances, most of their earlier videos they did live at a studio or on a couch (which is why in this video they start and end on a couch, they were representing their journey from couch to stars). So honestly if you just go through their channel you can just choose any of their older videos that made them popular in the first place :)
Kirstie, Scott, and Mitch have been singing together since high school glee club. You should hear their version of Haleluia ... Leonard Cohen said before he died was that was his favorite version of his iconic song. Listen enough and you too will become a pentaholic. For a spiritual experience, check out Amazing Grace.
They did a live competition show "the sing off" back in 2011, which is how they got their start. I feel those are the best quality of live performances even though they are old. May I recommend performance 7, cover of born to be wild (which is where the term "heavy metal" came from) and performance 12, cover of the dog days are over.
I think you guys would really love Hallelujah especially if you want to see passion in their singing. They do also have a bunch of originals like Run to You, Sing, Can't Sleep Love, New Year's Day and the newest just released this month called "Happy Now"
Man I remember the first time I heard them do this ❤. They are so amazing. Their voices and instrument sounds they make is so cool. The original will always be the best lol but they are great. They have so much talent. And bowser with the jug had me dying 😂 you both are too funny together lol. And you dont need to be sorry or apologize for having your own opinion. There are many times when I question whether theres auto tune or some kind of editing in the mix. Shit we all do it whether we admit it or not.
There is an amazing live of hallelujah but I recommend you watch the live and the music video in one sitting so you can see how amazing it is that they don’t really change...... Also check out there other videos that have massive hits Daft punk medley Imagine Mary did you know Sound of silence Once you’ve done those you are fully down the never ending rabbit hole x
Okay, for a PTX Live, do Hallelujah from their 2016 Christmas Special. There are lots of them in radio stations. Also, GOLD is one that is sort of Live. Gold is one of my favorites, along with Love Again, and a few others.

You have 9 years of this group's musical magic to go through...So "Can't hold us" , "Mary did you know?", "Somebody that I used to know", "I need your love" just to name a few.
Love your reaction! I have seen them live in Toronto,,,,amazing, your ears are in for a treat :) Thanks dudes :)
hallelujah live is a good one.
Their Hallelujah cover is breathtaking, y’all will love it
Talent is talent! 🤗
I have watched a number of react videos about this Pentatonix song. This one made some of the best observations I've seen so far.
Their 2016 pop spring performance is professionally shot änd good quality. @
Bowzer’s reaction Pit
You should react to their live version of Hallelijah from their Christmas Special. I think it's better than their official version.
You REALLY should react to Pentatonix 'Aha Star Vista Live Performance. It's more than incredible.
'Rude things to subwoofers '🤣🤣🤣
@@marshagrant7525 I mean, it's TRUE...
Please do gold by them it's so acoustic and natural and so good
They are just so mind blowingly good. I've seen them live twice and you never want it to end.
You guys should watch them as they competed on the sing off show. It is their very beginning. So many songs they did were revolutionary for them!
"Damn that was cool.... that was damn cool" made me giggle. 1st video I've seen, subscribed & look forward to more videos.
You really need to hear them LIVE!! they are just as good Live and it's amazing
Other commenters have mentioned quite a few live with excellent sound recording and balancing and I second them:
> "A-ha" live performance at Singapore Star Vista. While recorded from a fan cam, the sound is passable. Other reactors have asked where Kevin Olusola the beat boxer is. He was just keeping his cello from the previous number and did return to the stage afterward. You can clearly hear him though
> Hallelujah live in their Pentatonix Christmas special
> Pop spring concert 2016 - this consists of 4 songs (3 originals and 1evolution song). This was in Japan and sound quality and balancing is par excellence, thanks to the very capable Japanese sound engineers
> iHeartRADIO recordings. Try Cheerleader, Can't Sleep love
Btw, PTX performs Bohemian Rhapsody LIVE in its entirety in concerts, earlier with Avi Kaplan as bass and later on with Matt Sallee who took over bass when Avi left the group in late 2017.
Love how you show amazement and really pay attention to them!
Run to you is an original by them and is so amazing also hi from the uk x
When they were newly being discovered, they were competing on a show called Sing Off. one song they did you may enjoy is Born to Be Wild. Completely live, it was a competition...but recorded well because it was a show. Rest assured, they won the competition...all episodes are worth listening to.
There Tickets are not real expensive, and the show they put one is worth every penny, seen them live twice.
"Not real expensive" is pretty subjective, lol
travis russell I saw them once and it was amazing. My tickets weren’t too expensive...I was also about a half mile from the stage 🤣
I seen them last year. Loved every second
I have seen them live 4 times so far. Looking forward to more.
Live with good quality - Cracked (live at New Year's Rockin Eve), La LA Latch (same as 1st), Aha live Singapore Star Vista, Star Wars At the AMA's
I knew you’d love this one!! 🤟🏻❤️
We took our boys to see them live last year! It was awesome! My boys loved it!
I love this video because they look like they are having SO MUCH FUN
Imagine. Would be a great one for you. Or Gold. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
Check out the making of this video. It's all the more impressive when you realize all that went into it filming through the night in the cold before the sun came up.
They are amazing in concert, they sound exactly the same.
Hallelujah is very worth it! You won't regret it!
Hallelujah plz✌️live performance of this.
The fact?! I am having a goosebumps just by listening how they sound.
A few of their songs have also been done live for I ❤ Radio, so those have excellent sound. 🙂
My birthday cake in the late 1990s had one word on it, "Dude!" -- by which my friends meant, "Happy birthday!"
Their "Evolution" videos are probably the best for seeing them live with good quality recording. The best part is if you watch them all chronologically, you also get to see how Pentatonix's own sounds and styles evolve and improve through the years. They keep getting better.
Pentatonix Imagine please. So pure.
Their Evolution of Michael Jackson is so good.
Mark, when I saw them in concert they performed that Evolution! It was SO FREAKIN’ GREAT!!!
Hey!! Here to recommend you watch their journey on Sing Off. Even their "rough start" is awesome!
loved this video and I'm so glad y'all appreciate their talent! :)
Even if you don't do it on camera, you need to watch the "making of" video of this one. Behind the scenes is SO cool! 😎
They are so amazing in concert
There are really good videos of their live concerts. Even though you think they will sound bad, they don't just listen. Fellow Wisconsinite here trust
Yes! Love seeing you guys enjoy music!
There is a live performance of Hallelujah, The Christmas Special.
Now you need to listen to Pentatonix's version of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight". You will NOT be disappointed!
There's a good quality live vid of one of their original songs 'RUN TO YOU'. No beat boxing, just pure vocals 💗
Also check out there other videos that have massive hits
Daft punk medley
Imagine
Mary did you know
Sound of silence
Once you’ve done those you are fully down the never ending rabbit hole x
Okay, for a PTX Live, do Hallelujah from their 2016 Christmas Special. There are lots of them in radio stations. Also, GOLD is one that is sort of Live. Gold is one of my favorites, along with Love Again, and a few others.
