    Great ride through. Intrugued to read in to the history of Slough after watching your videos and the discussions, each area you cover has distinct character be it size of roads, houses, location of shops. Thanks for sharing 🙏

      Slough has a completely undeserved poor reputation, largely I think from little-Englanders and Brexiteers. Racists in short. I love the place for is massive diversity.

      @@paulanderson7796 I guess racism has something to do with it, but the town is also a hotbed of mediocrity.

    Thanks for the video. Does anyone have any interesting memories growing up in Langley? Would love to hear them, especially as it and the whole of Slough is being continually developed.

      I grew up in Iver Heath during the 1970's / 1980's. (Admittedly some say I've not grown up!). Went to Langley Grammar School 1982 - 1988. Good old times. I didn't actually leave Slough until 1997, and I still visit from time to time. Lots of fond memories. In some places it's barely changed at all - Harrow Market, but other side of the road Langley College is completely overhauled.

    • @study2success800
      @study2success800 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lovely to hear! I don't think Langley Grammar's building has changed all too much, I may be wrong.
      Slough certainly is a unique place to 'grow up'! As always, Slough's got a lot going for it!
      And yes, a lot of people are glad to see a relatively unchanged Harrow Market, I will make a conscious effort to support business up there after hearing the links between peoples memories and places (esp those 'still standing') in Slough.

      Best thing about Slough is that it is genuinely one of the most anonymous places in the world. Literally nobody cares who you are or what you are doing. I think that's all the good stuff, I'll just check my notes. Yes that's it!

      To be fair I also miss the Sikh community (to a certain extent) and the Indian grocery shops where you can buy everything from loose okra to bulk beans to cooking pots and thali plates. Do those still exist?

    I would love to know about the history of Langley in comparison to other parts of Slough. Bit intriguing that by design it had wider roads, bigger houses for example. It right next door to the motorway (don't know how far these go back either)... Without looking into it, I guess people of high ranks (Dukes, Lords, Ladies) held residence far far back in history? I know the Duke of Leeds held residence at some point by the canal branch.

      People of high social status tended to live either north (Bucks) or south (Windsor / Eton) Slough, being one of the first industrial conurbations was always pretty working class. Langley seemed to benefit from some kind of planning as a residential area.

      During the 13th century, King Henry III had a palace in Cippenham. The astronomer William Herschel had a 49 inch reflecting telescope built in his garden in Windsor Road, which is now in Slough, but of course the town didn't exist back then. Charles Dickens rented Elizabeth Cottage on the High Street under a pseudonym, ostensibly to be closer to his publishers Bentley's, but in fact to be closer to his mistress Ellen Ternan.

      Less than 3mph and was sped up to 5x.. did you have a look at my description? Also some parts by the shop area was being pushed while running/walking. I will have to say some places are still the same and Langley has to be one on the list, most places example Britwell has changed a lot if you know Kennedy Park there is new apartments being built on there. 😞

    Slough has been named as one of the worst places to live in the country following a recent survey. The Berkshire town has been ranked the 24th worst place to live in England, in a new poll which was conducted by the satirical website 'I Live Here,' after a 'record-breaking' 125,681 people voted.
